The Whalers left the year I graduated high school. I gave them 10 years to bring hockey back to Hartford before I would move onto another team. The NHL never came back, and I've recently become a Penguins fan.

Actually, check out the Sound Tigers (NY Islanders) in Bridgeport off Exit 1 on Route 8 at the Harboryard Arena. The area is safe and right off the exit. The arena is awesome, and the food is great

I admit I have only been to one WP game but I didn't like it. To me, it lacked the energy of a major league game. Maybe my expectations were too high, I don't know. I also admit that once the Whalers left town, I haven't really watched a hockey game since. Here's hoping the rumors are true and we get another major league team here. Somehow don't see it happening though.

Just got back from the Hockey Hall of Fame and I was glad to see the Whalers represented there. John Garrett's mask as well as Pat Verbeek and Bobby Hull's Whalers jerseys are on display. They also have a pretty cool Stanley Cup video showing there but be forewarned, the last 5-10 minutes cover the Finals last year and I was about to pop the emergency exit so I wouldn't have to watch the fcukin Hurricanes celebrate.

Bettman sucks. He relocated 3 teams which were in GREAT cities of hockey (Winnipeg, Quebec and for sure Hartford) Florida, Phoenix, Tampa, Anaheim, Atlanta, Washington and all others in south don't derserve hockey teams. Bring hockey back to North. That's where it belongs.

Actually, check out the Sound Tigers (NY Islanders) in Bridgeport off Exit 1 on Route 8 at the Harboryard Arena. The area is safe and right off the exit. The arena is awesome, and the food is great

Wow if you actually believed the Pats were serious about coming here then you need to take another look at it. Kraft had absolutely no intention of moving to Connecticut - we were simply a tool for him to use as leverage to get a new stadium in Foxboro. I would bet money that Rowland had full knowledge of that as well - and I am a conservative!!!

I don't think that's entirely true. I think even though Hartford has a AHL team they could still get a team. But I do believe they won't get a team until Bettman retires as commish.

I admit I have only been to one WP game but I didn't like it. To me, it lacked the energy of a major league game. Maybe my expectations were too high, I don't know. I also admit that once the Whalers left town, I haven't really watched a hockey game since. Here's hoping the rumors are true and we get another major league team here. Somehow don't see it happening though.

I like minor league fan,But I do get the point on why alot of hockey fans in Hartford hate the Wolfpack. there with the Whalers biggest rival,Also it could be because Hartford residents just don't find AHL intrestring. Ten years ago people were used to going to the Civic Center to see the pro like Kevin Dineen and Andrew Cassels. Now they see guys that will be bagging groceries five years from now.

Its kinda of hard to keep a team in a city when basically everyone at the time was in favor of letting them leave and that includes the commissioner and the owner. If the demographics of the NHL were in place when the Whalers were still around (salary cap) maybe the Whalers would of had a chance of staying because back them a poor team on the ice and being a small market were all the ingredients of them getting canned. As for the population still a population of 124,000 is not a ghost town.

Just got back from the Hockey Hall of Fame and I was glad to see the Whalers represented there. John Garrett's mask as well as Pat Verbeek and Bobby Hull's Whalers jerseys are on display. They also have a pretty cool Stanley Cup video showing there but be forewarned, the last 5-10 minutes cover the Finals last year and I was about to pop the emergency exit so I wouldn't have to watch the fcukin Hurricanes celebrate.

Man... I miss the Whalers so much, We need to root out some of those usless clubs (atlanta, anahiem, carolina, florida, phoenix) and get some real hockey citys back on the map (Hartford, Winnipeg, Quebec) If I had my way the real hockey fans would get their teams back and I'd set things right(i.e. return of the Jets, Whalers and Nords and rename the Minnesota team the North Stars)

I am a huge hockey fan and the whalers was my favorite team ,I'm from newfoundland canada and was maybe the only true die hard whalers fan from here,Everybody here either supported the habs or the leafs,It was very hard to see the whalers leave hartford .I hope hartford once again some day gets a new team .
