  • Agreed

Though I think it sounds more like a jet turbine. That's like so totally rad dude!

  • 1:10 seems like letter L fall of at its own mind

  • Quiet smoke 0:29

  • lithium air batteries my friends look it up!!!!!!

  • Kudos to the chumps at Tesla for taking the petty route, bringing a suit against Top Gear for what THEY consider libel. The most ironic part is that this ridiculous accusation demeans their name more than Top Gear ever could have. Google "Tesla Top Gear libel" and find Top Gear's response for the real story

  • Can someone turn down the music. And put a mic in the car?

  • @Shiqna1 sorry but im with Mr Otto, im sure most people would agree that the 'noise' an electric car makes isn't a plus

  • i bet u did't know your tesla is a freenergy machine, just make it run 2 10,000wat genrators and u will know

  • Why is it that so many prats use music with their videos (and mostly ignorant rock). Lets hear natural sound. We'd like to hear this car not the music.

  • It's a pitty, this could have been a great video without the music, and only with the "silence" of the car, to let us hear the noise of the tyres against the road and the buzz of the electric engine

  • If you wanted to... you could modify the car to have a sound system that replicates a Gas engine sound, as your put down the petal. Have the speakers mounted on the inside of the hood, make it sound all Gas powerful.

    (Because loudness = power )*sarcasm*

  • @rfry LOL, my 85 crown Vic makes all kinds of big muscle car V8 sounds...But it only has 140hp...LOL

  • 1:08 LOL its missing an L in TESLA on the rear of the car haha rolf

  • Why does a car with only one gear have a speedo and also a rev counter?

  • MAN I WANT TO HEAR THE CAR SOUND NOT SOME BS FAGGOT MUSIC~!!!!!

  • @sanadaHIRO its an electric car , so with no music this video would be boring as hell

  • @sanadaHIRO there's nearly no sound... it sounds just like an electric engine, like a vacuum cleaner but quiter lol...

  • note to editor, please less gay bongo music and more tires screaming.

  • Problem with this surely is like any battery, the more charge/discharge cycles you put through it the worse it becomes, power output drops and range of use will dwindle over time.

  • no music! i want to hear the pissed of vacuum cleaner sound! or maybe not...lol awesome teaser nonetheless...

  • no music! i want to hear the pissed off vaccum cleaner sound! lol

  • @shanehokanstud The batteries are recycled. NO battery should EVER been thrown in the trash, there are plenty of places that take ALL batteries and either recycle them or dispose of them properly.

200 miles is a pretty long drive, most people drive less than 40 in a day. Most people I know drive less than 20 miles. The charge time for the Tesla is 3.5 hours and that's if the battery is empty. It would only take 16 hours if you charged it from a standard wall outlet and the battery was empty.

  • Widershins: Never saw ether one of these cars except in pictures But I am glad that Tesla has built this car. Land and water pollution are to be feared and should be controlled as much a possible. But remember a volcano like the one in Iceland puts more pollution into the air then what man has in about three thousand years and it is,nt the only one around, so how now brown cow?

  • @widershins That's actually BS, look it up. Also, humans pump things that are a LOT worse than just CO2 into the air.

  • @widershins yea that is actually BS, ur just saying that without any hard evidence.

  • Gearhead if you like ferrari sound in an electric you install the software. If you like it to sound like a burning oilrig in the gulf. You install the software :-)

  • @shanehokanstud '

You are VERY WRONG....Electric batteries are re-usable and recyclable....your statement couldn't be further from the thruth, Far from becoming toxic waste, a complete battery re-cycling and re-conditioning industry can be made put of recycling and reconditioning batteries.

  • @jibarorock "Can be made" is the issue. As it stands now, production of the Prius has created a 50 mile radius biological deadzone in Canada where its batteries are produced because of the sulfur dioxide rain put out by the factory, all the oil used to ship its battery materials to six different countries before it's put inside of a car is more oil than a Hummer H2 consumes in TEN YEARS and the batteries normally do end up in regular old car crushing facilities where the nickel...

  • @jibarorock seeps back into the ground and pollutes our water table.

  • @jibarorock Youtube won't let me post a link, but see for yourself. Go to Google, and search for "Prius Deadzone" and click the second link, the study done on Impact Lab. Hybrids are not the answer to our environmental crisis, at least not yet they aren't. Save the planet and ride a bike, or at least just do what all of Europe does and buy smaller, more efficient cars and drive more conservatively.

  • @TakeItEasyC6 NiMH batteries are not the only type of battery that can be used for a hybrid or EV, there are a few other options out there.

  • @TakeItEasyC6 , Your comments are DEAD WRONG sorry.

Don't take it personal, but I think you have been reading to many one sided reports that are paid for by vested interest to be used in the main stream media as propoganda, I've had 25 years of this BS and enough is enough.

Shine the light equally on ALL automotive technology or not at all.

The needs of the many outway thos of the few.

This tech works, it IS better then oil and its here to stay (this time) !

    Get used to it

  • F I N A L M E N T E =)

  • It really is a legendary car.

  • no sound of car = 'thumbs down'

  • @StreetHypnosisOz

I prefer silence because I can just imagine driving this down the country side at night, very peaceful.

  • The car is beautiful at night :)

  • With the money they want for that thing, they need to get it up to at least 3,125 gauranteed miles per charge.

  • 200 free miles per charge it's a dream car for sure 3.6 is faster than super cars

  • It's great

  • so, how much for this? 50,000? 30,000...?

Christ cars are so overrated and overpriced. Complete waste of money.

  • @Thingamajigs 100,000

  • My next car!

  • Way better then the volt which only gets 60 miles per charge. this gets 200+. 0-60mph isnt bad either. im so getting one

  • Power to the people. Tesla all the way the only way !

  • Tesla is back power to the people

  • The true sign of a good engine is silence!! I would rather listen to the sound of air rushing past at high speed, but then i suppose it would mean bad aerodynamics... I know!! Stick your head outside of a fast moving car and feel as happy as a wind swept baggy faced dog ;P..

    Fuck the engine noise!!

  • The electric motors seem more efficient that petrol, however lithium batteries i don't think are the solution

  • Electric motors are over 90% efficient. Combustion engines are only about 20% efficient.

Li batteries are the only real viable power source right now, although fuel cells are close.

  • And carbon nanotube batteries in the near future. Estimated capacity and rechargability for the same size as a standard car battery is at least 100 times more. Looking forward to when those come out.

  • le seul probleme c que les batteries sont aussi dommageable a la longue que le pétrole. la seule vraie option c soit la combustion a l'hydrogène oubien la pile a combustible

  • the body of the tesla is a lotus europa

  • what to do with all the spent batteries???

and how much lithium is left???????

you cannot get energy for nothing

just change it in from one form to another

  • The batteries are recycled. Nobody ever claimed you could get energy from nothing, I don't understand what that has to do with the video

  • Good video, but less music next time please

  • GM said there is no market for electric cars so it killed the EV1 project 20 years ago and bought HUMMER from AMC instead

they could have been 20 years ahead in electric technology

GM now wants to sell you an electric car with an Internal Combustion engine so you keep buying spark plugs and engine oil

  • everybody knows gm are assholes

  • @emforty2 they want to sell you an electric car with a 4 stroke generator engine so you don't have to worry about the limitations of current battery technology. do some research, the volt will get over 200 mpg

  • @emforty2

But they made so much money with hummer

if they committed them selves to EVs they would have gone belly up faster.

  • @emforty2

    there are hidden reasons.

Cars companies are linked to Oil companies.

They build cars that use too much petrol.

Oil is linked to the financial system. If you want oil you have to buy it using dollars in the stock exchange. This sustains the Usa economy because you have to change different currencies in Us dollars to buy oil.

    It's a giant NET.

  • @emforty2 You can buy stock in Tesla motors they just opened the company up to public trading. symbol TSLA

  • @enlightenthemass Yeap, and I just bought 1000 bucks in shares -- woot woot! Now time to start saving for the Model S! ;-)

  • @emforty2

    And batteries. Oh wait...

  • Less music more car noises!

  • @henik9 There won't be any engine noise, it's a full electric vehicle. It doesn't run on gas.

  • it does make noise, not really a good noise like a Ferrari, more like a pissed off vacuum cleaner.

  • @gearheadd318 Can't expect too much now for a non-liquid (fossil) fuel car.

  • I heard an electric motorcycle that was noticeably louder than the Tesla, it didn't sound bad but on the other hand it didn't sound that good, at least its making a noise i guess.

  • @gearheadd318

    but it's a very powerfull cleaner ^^

  • @gearheadd318

    More like a miniature jetengine

  • @gearheadd318 that's a good damn noise. get used to it. it's the noise of the future.

  • @blaynestaleypro There will still be internal combustion engines, I will have one for as long as I live, even if i have to grow corn to make ethanol myself

  • @gearheadd318 why would you want one? you're obsolete.

  • @blaynestaleypro If you have to ask, you wouldn't get it anyway.

  • @gearheadd318 I fully understand, the noise and all that. I get it. but who cares about that shit. Like I said, you're obsolete.

  • @blaynestaleypro Is that small portion of why I love of cars a biases to make such a presumptuous judgment about my entire existence as a human being? Making such a strong judgment on so little information would do the world more good by ceasing to be an acceptable thought process (more like a lack of thought process) then people who enjoy internal combustion engines dying out. I'd say your intellectual mind is obsolete, but stupidity was superior to begin with.

  • @gearheadd318 I'm not making a judgement about your entire existence. Who cares, you like engines good for you. I just mean you might want to sort out your priorities. You'd rather pollute the planet and use an inefficient system because you like the noise. Whatever, I dont' even care, don't respond

  • @gearheadd318 honestly I think the pissed off vacuum cleaner sound is pretty freaking wicked. I guess Ferraris sound good to, as does my V8 rx7...man i need to sell that thing or convert it to EV.

  • @VanGThieu They do make a noise, sounds a bit like a jet from the inside, watch EVO's video, sounds cool

  • This car is silent so it aint that bad to have music

  • "Less music more car noises!"

    @henik9

If you want to know how the car sounds,

klick on mute and you get the Tesla feeling ^^

  • not bad! i'd like one of these! could anyone gimme some lil money??!

  • the best part of electric is it draws 100% torque instantly and at all times

  • magnifico a temblar carros de combustion

  • 1:47 notice how the car does when the accelerator is pushed? haha sweet ride!

  • Comment removed

  • haha at 1:09 the "L" of "TESLA" is missing.

    this is weak....

This is why they show the backside of the car only three times.

  • it's true the L is gone.. must have been going so fast it lost it! ;)

  • @Chingy555 I saw the L.

  • The chassis is built by lotus, that's why it looks like one.

  • this is a TESLA not lotus.

  • its called sarcasm. . . they copied the lotus elise body. . .

  • ahh ok, i'm not english and i didn't understend the sarcasm

  • don't worry ppella, it wasn't a very good attempt at sarcasm anyhow. his "its called sarcasm" comment was pretty weak

  • they didn't copy lotus's body, they used their chassis so it has a similar shape. every body panel is different.

  • it basicly looks the same -_-

  • For all of you complaining about the sound...Look I love a deep rumble of an American V8 as much as anyone else but this car is the future whether you like it or not. And i'm very confident that these electrics will offer some variation of a "soundbox" for people that really miss the roar of a fast car. And with the technology i'm sure they will sound realistic and on top of that give you different sound options to choose from instead of that one same sound everyday. We all win here.

  • Mercedes Tuner Brabus (Germany) already delivers such a box for the Tesla.

  • Thanks for the info. I was sure someone would grab on to the idea. Now people have nothing more to complain about although they will anyway.

  • awesome car, would buy it right away if I had the money, for now I'll just settle with the Prius. :)

  • Car is electric, barely even makes a noise..

  • Comment removed

  • i can t afford this fucker only a dream

i just watch youtube videos of this car

Why do they only make electric cars for the rich how about the ordinary guy

  • Because every technology is trickled down. TV's started out as being only for the well to do, same with air conditioners, etc.

The electric car is no different. Give it ten years, and cross your fingers that the oil companies don't buy up the patents to Lithium batteries too. ;)

  • Yeah really. and the rich won't buy them cause they don't give a shit about the planet and don't have to worry about gas prices.

    it's completely counter productive

  • Some rich care about the planet. But really, A LOT of rich people care about looking good. And it would help have an eco-friendly image to purchase one of these. They might also care about performance, as it's faster than some Porches in the quarter mile.

  • man, i'm dreaming about this machine

  • amazing 150 years old technology from nicola tesla yet still faster then any other car on this planet.

  • ......he did not design the car. if you mean electric power, that's like saying whoever invented internal combustion is still the fastest vehicle.

  • first electric motors, invented by the British scientist William Sturgeon in 1832,

Nikola Tesla 10 July 1856 , cited as one of the most important contributors to the birth of modern electricity,

if it wasnt for AC, you will be running DC think about that ! kaaabooom every 2 miles lolz

  • The important step here (and why the car is named after Tesla) is that the motor is an AC motor (which Tesla invented) and the insulated-gate bi-polar transistors make AC from the DC that the battery cells supply. What happens is that the efficiency is maintained at all speeds, because only the AC frequency has to be veried to change the speed of the motor (and car)

  • That's right,

but it's more about batteries and not about old guy Tesla.

The biggest problem is to store electric energy.

  • We have developed probably hundreds of battery concepts that lasts much longer than any lithium ion. They are always showcased in tech conventions but they are almost NEVER applied or used so we're stuck with things like lithium ion and lithium poly. I don't understand why they do this...

  • Why don't you understand?

Same reason Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii are more successful than the PS3. They both utilize more "tried and true" cheaper technologies than the best performers, to reap more profit.

Tesla is no different. Otherwise the price would be even more prohibitive than it really is. However, that's not entirely bad with the Tesla since it's like the Super Car of the Hybrids. More damn exciting than Prius i'll say.

  • this car aint a hybrid... its full electric

  • I know the Tesla is full electric, what I meant to say that was the the Tesla is the missing "fun factor" in cars LIKE the Prius.

You know, cars designed to be better for the environment/gas efficient/etc.

  • Yeah I think you're right! Step by step, the important thing is that we're finally starting using our brain.

  • Great vid, i think the music ruined it though. I would have liked to hear the tires screech without hearing the engine noise.

  • horrible song.... free lifesavers? Stupid.

  • Who needs a engine noise, the acceleration is like you sit in a slingshot! I think, if electric cares would race against the DTM cares, the electric ones would win easily! Electric is the future, and Tesla delivers us the to this future!

  • I don't think electric sports cars are really going to catch on until they make some sort of sound. That's what defines exotics/supercars-the engine sound.

Eventually(probably 10-20 years down the road), the big supercar makers over in Italy will get on board the EV bandwagon and they'll likely find a way to get some sort of cool sound out of the electric motor. Then EVs will have truly become mainstream.

Until then, cars like this will just remain novelties.

  • You can customize the car to make it sound like other cars. Today.

  • Im sure sound is one of the downsides of gas engines. Just like we adjusted to the obnoxious sound of gas blowing up we will adjust to the humming of batteries transferring energy. That why we found is smart to add mufflers at the cost of horsepower.

  • Sound is only really a downside depending on your point of view. For most vehicles, it'll make little difference. For many cars(mostly larger engined or performance oriented), sound is a defining factor of the car, so much so that different cars can be recognized based upon their specific sounds. The humming of a battery can't really replace that. It just conjures up no emotion at all.

  • There was a time when people said that cars didn't feel alive, that a horse had a soul, sound, and feel that no car could ever have. Look what happened to them.

  • I dont think this is quite the same. While the fact that horses were living creatures added a particularly significant dimension to their competition(and eventual loss) to the automobile, the only aesthetic difference between combustion and electric engines is sound, which probably would not be difficult to replicate in the latter.

The difference here simply isn't as drastic. Therefore, I don't think your implied conclusion(the elimination of all audible combustion engines) is entirely likely.

  • You gotta remember that a lot of the people who can afford Teslas are the types who will like performance cars and the unique sounds they make. The majority of folks in this bracket not only don't mind the sound of these cars, but many in fact are enthusiastic enough about cars to actually notice and care about it, even if you may not.

That, and you don't need gas to create sound. several modifications can be made to electric cars to create a more noticeable tune. Then everyone really wins.

  • I got a ride in one the other day, and I thought it sounded awesome. It's unique, I think you would stand out enough in one of these :)

  • Why is an electric whine a downside?

I think the sound is awesome!

  • I agree, it does have something futuristic. ^_^

  • GOODBYE PETROLEO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • does everything a car needs but no engine noise:(

  • oh i miss the Engine Noise so much!!! :(

  • Great video ... terribly unfortunate music choice

  • if you really want the sound of an engine all you need to do is get a certain part installed.

  • baseball cards in the spokes?

  • yea it is true... just one question. how much longer are you expecting to hear your "precious" engine sound.. think about your kids a little bit

  • meh ..i'd go for the 8 litre viper

  • I just saw one...Oh my god! it was amazing!

  • this car is BEAST

  • How long does it take to fully recharge this vechile?

  • Using what? If you just plug it in the wall like a microwave, you'll wait for about 7 hours. If, however, you use the Tesla charger that they install in your house, it'll take about 3 hours. They're also working on a new charger that will reduce that to about one hour.

But you're asking the wrong question. Don't forget that battery charging is nonlinear, which means that if you only charge the batteries up to about 80%, it will already take you closer to one hour, and less with the new charger!

  • what's the song

  • I'm not going to lie, I am really impressed with this car. This really is what the electric car world needed, an extremely fun high performance car. There will never be anything like listening to the sound of a V-12 singing at high revs (and I will be that stone-aged guy who still owns a sport car powered by gas so I can get the FULL experience, haha), but this will open up car enthusiasts to at least thinking that electric cars can be fun.

  • Well, while you pay 120 bucks just to drive 100 miles, Ill pay only $4 a FULL charge worth of electricity & can go for 227 miles.

not to mention that I can actually have a conversation in the car....

  • Haha, very true......it just depends on what your priorities are. It absolutely is worth it to me to drop huge amounts of money to get chill bumps from listening to a BEAUTIFUL sounding engine while rowing through 6 gears (and NO ONE talks to me when I'm in driving bliss by the way :) ). But yeah, it isn't as practical and won't be worth it to most, therefore making this a great and economical option to most people (once they can knock down the initial upfront cost of this car!)

  • i am japanese.

    cool!!!!!

    i want this car!

    very very very coooooooooool!!!!!!!!!!

    TOYOTA is end......

    EV is world of best!!!!!

no oil is used to car, best.

  • lol, You are japanese.......... what does that have to do with anything?

  • I think the L in TESLA fell off...

  • Yeah, I noticed that too! I was wondering if anyone else realized that :P

  • For your L talk also at 1:10 you can sei that the L letter from the tesla insignia is missing :P

  • Why do people continue to put make the music so loud we can't hear the car? I know Tesla sounds different - that's part of the point.

  • I would normally agree with you...but Teslas have no sound LOL. All you'll hear are screeching tires, unless you're lucky enough to hear the "jet-engine powering down " sound when the car brakes.

  • maybe they used a combustion engine for this video and now they cant have the sound or it will give it away :p

  • 100% torque = from RPM 1 to the top!

  • Doesn't the torque drop off with ^ RPM?

  • It really depends on the type of motors they used, some motors have hi running torque while others have hi starting torque, I am going to throw caution into the wind and say they used a motor that has a nice torque output in both starting and running.

  • front resembles the nsx while back resembles the elise

  • poor tes a.. See 1:10

  • This is something powerful and could change all energy consumption trend , maybe time has arrived to correct absolut lack of imagination and non sense of actual economic corruption...

  • Reminds me on the Lotus Elise II, very bueautiful in my oppinion!

I`m sure they gonna fix the accumulator problems within the next 5 or 10 yrs and 2015 electrocars will be a mass phenomenon. Just have a look on their (tesla's) upcoming model s limousine. 250 km/h at top and 5 sec 0-100 km/h...impressive for this kind of car. they even extended the range to ~ 450 km...thats an improvement of 50 % or so.....thubs up!

  • Tesla is related to Lotus... you're right.

  • Oh...i see, the roadster got developed with AC Propulsion and Lotus...assembly is done by lotus aswell in their works in Hethel. The elise shares a great amount of parts with the tesla roadster. Quite interesting tho!

  • Look at the HP and Torque curve in a chart, its constant, pretty stable, we could say it depends just on the gear ratio not on the revs at all, no mix problems, no need of turbo chargers, air intakes, etc... and hey this car from 0-60 is like a Gallardo so not too bad (and its just the beggining)

  • body roll

  • It's an electric Lotus ..... lovely.

  • I bet that the japanes and germans will make their own version

why they dont invent something that has not been yet built

like the flax capacitir or something like that
