  • lol hes gott along way to go..

  • lol i used to by the only french horn player to, but then some chicago girl who is a prodigy joined and ruined me....

  • I played this solo to get into my high school wind ensemble. I got halfway through and the director said, "You're in."

  • I LUVV FRENCH HORNS!! THEY WILL RULE THE WORLD

  • Only French horn in my school, solo's are so much fun.

  • im not the only one but im the only one who can actually play

  • @ginabartholomew lol same here

  • @ginabartholomew lol same here

  • @ginabartholomew lol same here

  • I play French Horn and love it. It is amazing how it can change from a march to a waltz just by changing a feature in your embouchure. I love playing it. IT BE AWESOME!!!!

  • Wow after seeing everybody comment about how they're the only French Horn in their band or something like that,i'm kind of glad we have 7 French Horns in my band lol.We just had our first chair challenge like a week ago and i'm third chair :D

  • @mrsnipe597 haha me too!! im very glad i have lots of frenchorn buddies too! = )

  • Auaaaa

  • Im the only professional french horn player at my school it is a really good instrument But i gotta admit it is hard but it has a beatiful sound. Ive been playing it for 6 years since i was 11 now im 17.

  • @Merced1234ily You're not a "professional" you idiot. A professional is someone who is payed to do what they do (i.e. A symphony player who has been playing for 25 years and is payed to perform), not a 17-year-old who is an arrogant little a**.....

  • i play the frech horn!! it is the most beautiful instrument out there!!! such an open sound!!! if you ever play an instrument it should be the french horn!! they even have a main part in the nutcracker suite!:)

  • hopefully french horns will become more recognized in the future. whenever i tell somebody that i play the french horn they ask me "what's that?". but everybody knows what a trumpet and flute are....what a shame.

  • @THTPRSONUDK Lol I know what you mean.People will sometimes say when I have my French Horn with me "Is that a Tuba?" I get so pissed when people ask that lol.

  • I'm going to college for music composition and my primary instrument is french horn

  • bad band , they need to tune

  • @tcpill and @licasis be proud of that instrument! It has a royal and beautiful sound. I too was the only one playing it in my school band 7 years ago. good times. i play strictly violin now, but someday i might pick up the horn again. they are just so expensive -.-

  • My band has about 9 horn players, but only about 4 of us actually care about playing great. I would be one of them.

  • i pay french horn

  • @heathanna sorry i mean play

  • @tcpill cool same thing im only french horn in my band =)

  • French Horns rock but kids always pick the trumpet starting out! In 6th grade we had 3 french horns, 7th 2, 8th 2 then through highschool it was me and another guy, so fun to play

  • He looks intense as fuuhh

  • ... is that Peter Riggs?

  • Nice Solo The HORN SOUNED GREAT!!!!!

  • im the only french horn in my band =) its fun when i have solos

  • I use to be the only French Horn player back in 5th grade. But then, another girl came. It was intense waiting to see who would be 1st chair.

  • @tcpill you must have an extremely small band! We have 5 full-sized bands in our high school alone, and there are 4-5 french horns in each.

And as for this video, this band is pretty horrible, they are not tuned at all and their tempo keeps effing up at odd places

  • @uofi12345666 wow lol yes compared to a lot of other bands i will say we r small and we r only 2A currently so that might explain the small band part but wow lol "the band is pretty horrible," strong words lol

  • @tcpill I am the only french horn in my bandsssssss. (i don't own the bands) Kinda sucks being the only French Horn though.

  • there's like 8 french horns total in my school

    honor's band-3 (including me)

    Symphonic-2

    Concert-3

  • i am the only french horn in the band at the moment. it sucks because i like playing with others. oh well... its still fun, though. :)

  • @ChicksFly172 haha yeah so am i.

  • Lucky!! At mine theres only two horn players And I'm one of them!!!

  • rondo allegro from strauss concerto 1

  • Name of this song?\

  • I am the only french horn at my school.

  • @licasis my too :)

  • Comment removed

  • LOL do u go to madison middle school?

  • who the hell is holding the camera, ZzZzzzZzzZzzZZzzzZzz

  • i love playing this -

if only the vid wasnt like 20mins out

  • when and where was this?

  • wow if your over the age of 13 stay under get out if your just beginning thats great stay with it if you play any oter instrument shut up every instrument has its difficulty kudos to anyone who plays and instrument

  • Yeah, This is Richard Strauss horn concerto no.1.

  • its not hard to play it if you lay a brass instrument i play the trumpet and i played the fingerings its not hard as people make it seem

  • By hard they mean if you have no musical experience or anything, PLaying the horn or oboe straight out is hardest. if you have had prior musical training of any form you pick it up so much faster

  • True. I played trumpet before the French horn, and now I'm first chair. :) I beat everyone, and I was so proud.

  • It has to do with the partials, not the fingerings, you have to have an ear to play the horn or the oboe.

  • while you *can* play horn with trumpet fingerings, they're very out of tune, and not often the fingerings you want. plus, as someone else mentioned, it's more an issue with partials and intonation than with fingerings. Any woodwind has more difficult fingerings than any brass.

  • my sister play he french horn she says its hard

  • I want to play this solo. does anyone happen to know the music?

  • french horns rock!! im a second year french horn first chair in the wind ensamble high school band right now ill tell u, with all its shelves, french horn is difficult but fun :D

  • I swaped to a french horn 3 weeks ago and geez its hard...

  • its the hardest instrument to play. i play the french horn to.

  • i play it too but i think its easy actually

  • I also play the french horn, and actually, according to the guinness book of world records, the french horn and the oboe are the hardest instruments to play

  • really? oh maybe that's why i sound low on my horn

  • i know, me too, I can barely play a full-length song

  • i gtet my french horn on monday im in band at school

  • maybe it was another instrument in the background or he is FAKE

  • he puts the horn down at 0:49 and the music still playing? either he's that good or...FAKE

  • it's several beats off sync.

  • Yes...a whole orchestra set this thing up to trick people on Youtube.

  • he means when uploading to youtube the video and audio got out of sync, it happens a lot.

  • I was quoting Dryerlintproduction's comment about the fake thing. And my last comment was supposed to be sarcastic anyways.

  • read the description!

  • have you noticed how long ago that comment was the conversation is over

    kill yourself

  • fuck u asshole i dnt log on everyday ..i have a fuckin life!!

  • sounds like a personal problem no need to use foul language

  • yea right....that's impossible. Shit all

  • is yhe video and audio not in sync or did he play w/out touching it?

  • its actually called airplay. it takes years to master and this guy's pretty good. if you see someone who's a master at it they can play without even picking up the horn. it's amazing

  • what is airplay again?

  • that is so cool hes playing it without touching it

  • the video and audio are not in sync.

  • Bravo. ı have never seen someone play the french horn without blowing into it. You are a genious. l am ready to pay you a fortune if you can teach me to play it without touching it.

  • i play this concert too ;);) i like it ;)

  • I think this is a joke. I think part of the music is played by the orchestra that we see, and the other part is a recording. The horn playing and the orchestra is of professional caliber. However, when we hear the orchestra alone, it is the orchestra that we see. The moment that we hear the horn being played, but do not see it being played, is the definite clue that this is a grand joke.

  • I play French Horn, and im playing in Helsingborg Drumcorps. I got a really good "Alexander horn".

  • The piece is Strauss 1. I'd know it anywhere if I heard it! Such a good piece...

  • is this out of sync? because the horn continues to play when he removes the instruments from his lips. Or is it the 3rd hornist who's playing a "response"?

  • i saw that too but i didnt see any other horns

  • Neither do I. And I don't hear any other horn part.

  • I think I saw 3 or 4 other horns, but it was probably just him.

you can see near the end that he pauses but the music itself pauses several seconds later

  • at 20 seconds horns 3 and four before the tpts play the triplet sixtenth notes, they play low f....and i heard it....sounds great

  • omg so do i!!!

  • im actually gonna play this after christmas on my playing exam

  • era para q lo gravenmas nitido

  • I play the french horn!!!!

  • so do I!

  • me too!

  • Me three!

  • make that four! this is my 7th year

  • i just started

  • me too!

    I'm in beginner band!

  • Random note: English is the only language where the Horn is known as French Horn. Which is odd, since the instrument isn't French anyway.

  • Ah, a delight to the ear. The horn is a wonderful instrument, so expressive. I envy his mastery. I'm a noob hornist.

  • Keep at it, if you're dedicated you can be like this guy.

  • Well I'm almost to the one year mark, and I still suck, but I can see all my improvement so far, and I just have to keep it going.

  • NICE HORN SOLO.

  • ive been playing the french horn for about 3 years now. Its a nice sounding insturment just hard to get right tone...

  • its hard to get good tone yes, French Horns are rare in my school and I've been playing 5 years now.

  • He did an amazing job on his note accuracy. That is one of the most difficult aspects of playing a horn.

  • hey.. did anybody notice his mouth wasnt on the mouthpiece during the high b flat?? .. haha some syncing issues w/ video and audio im assuming.. sweeeet video

  • The french horn is the insturment from god it is the most beutiful sonding insturment on earth whern played well! (Ive been playing for just a few months but man do the pros sound good)

  • the conductor looks like cheri oteri

  • I just started playing the french horn in oct.

  • Me to

  • kool it waz 4 band in skool

  • same with me my I was orginaly on the trumpet but i stagnated on it so she swithced me to french horn. with 3 of my freinds

  • i've been playing for 12 years. you're great for only 3!!

  • ive also been playing french horn for 3 years

(whats funny is that its not even french its like from china )

  • its german deedeedee

  • i think he meant the instrument he has was manufactured in china

  • wow...awesome =]

  • i play french horn...

i've been doing it for 2 yrs

  • the orchestra in the background is pretty damn bad...other than that the horn is ok...the sound is a little heavy...most of the notes are well focused...I LOVE STRAUSS...lmao...u did an ok job considering tht this was a performance BUT GOD THE ORCHESTRA IS SO OUT OF TUNE...your intonation isn't tht bad though

  • Aside from the orchestra being out of tune, it probably wouldn't have sounded that bad live; the recording isn't exceptional.

  • I read in some guiness book that an international orchestra group had taken a vote. They decided the two hardest instruments to play and master were the French horn and the oboe, I believe.

  • Yes that is correct. This is my 3rd year playing French Horn.

  • ive JUST started playing it and i love it

  • french horn 4 lyfe!!!!

    ive played for 2 years

  • ive been playing french horn for three years too, i love it

  • french horn rules, but its so hard to play.

ive been playing for 3 years:P

  • yeah horn is the hardest brass instrument, i have tried them all, tuba, euphonium, and trombone take a while to get, but once you got em, you can play em very well, and for trumpet, thats easy to learn and master at the same time. if im leaving out any other brass instruments i probably have not heard of them, i play the horn and yea, its difficult, so many octaves that are close together its very easy to mess up.

  • FRENCH HORN HAS TO BE THE MOST DIFFICULT INSTRUMENT TO LEARN AND THEN MASTER. most instruments its either easy to learn and difficult to master, or difficult to learn and easy to master, like the tuba. French horn is freaky difficult...i play it

  • wtf horn is the hardest brass instrument

  • well it's pretty much the best players in half the state or somethin..all i know is that a bunch of good players from all the towns in CT, my state, come and audition for a great band

  • FRENCH HORN IS LOVE:D

it is hard to play the french horn, really.

  • i play clarinet and i made it to regional band for best players in my state. I don't even practice and i'm the best lol

  • regional band isn't state. And what state are you from.

  • Omg u r such a bragger! & by the way since ur soooo advanced how about trying the saxophone.

  • thank you ixwish!

    Horn players unite!

ha ha, this is my districts piece this year, it's ridiculous, but fun.

  • finaly s/o noticed that F.H. is the hardest instrument to play...

  • that composer look bionic

  • u wish

  • that was seriously not called for. I'm 1st chair all state and I have that piece and it's REALLY difficult. French horn is the hardest instrument and you will never know what it's like to experience that. so just shut up.

  • Ya .... i've played it for two years and decided to "quit" too many times to count. I'm sill with is though...its really fun

  • I play French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, and Trumpet and I don't believe French horn is the hardest instrument. In fact I find it easier to play the French Horn than I do that Trumpet oddly enough.

  • I play those instruments and have to disagree; this instrument is the most demanding in that it demands that you hear the notes before you play them.

  • With one do you PLAY? You can't be good at all of them.

  • I'm good at Horn. I'm an okay trumpet player(ironic I started on it). Euphonium is my calling though. And trombone I'm better on trombone then horn but not as good as euphonium. Course I play my euphonium nearly everyday. And who says you can't be good at multiple instruments?

  • lol,you followed the same path as me. I started on trumpet, played for 3 years, and then learned french horn. I have only played horn for 1 year and I am already better than I am at trumpet. Oh yeah, I also play guitar well :P

  • Ah, I've never really tried to learn guitar. Only played it in 7th grade for a music class and all we had to do was play Ode To Joy.. so didn't really learn much there. ^_^;

  • That's a fairly unique opinion, from what I've seen. iirc, the reason it's known to be a challenging instrument is the precision of the embouchure, as there's less movement [of the lips] from pitch to pitch. The horn mouthpiece is the smallest of the common brass instruments [horn, trombone, euph, trumpet] you mentioned, which I'm guessing has something to do with that.

  • lol.. i agree and dis agree.... Have you ever played the bassoon?... I mean I play the bassoon and I have been playing for while now and im still learning... i bet it if u were to go to a university you would find that all the bassoon players find there instrument (bassoon) quite difficult.... It is a cometed instrument not one to pick up when wanted... Just like all instruments... But to be more correct there are harder instruments...

( Keep it up! ***Playing the french horn****)

  • wow at around 46 seconds he puts his horn down and the solo continues...hmmmmm

  • The dotted quarter part after the triplets sent chills down my spine... until he messed up the Ab to F jump. :S Other than that, very nice sound... tad forced sounding on the high Bb, but still very pleasant to listen to.

  • we say 'war pilot' (2. world war Japanese Kamikaze)

  • i hope one day to play like that :O

  • nice flute playin....

  • Ok, I'll bite, at about 46 second into this video, the soloist puts his horn down, yet the solo part continues. Anyone care to explain this phenomon?

  • yay 3rd movement... The ending always trips me up. I gotta work on my muscle memory on my fingers.

  • The last 50 measures of this piece are a pain... but its a lot of repeated stuff. Try playing it on just the Bb side. It def. helps with the ease and then you can focus on air direction and other such phrasing things.

  • yeah I use Bb side for everything anyways. My Horn is shifted to the Bb side.

  • Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some 1920's trading cards of musical instruments, including the French Horn.

  • You should really post the details about who this is, and the title of the piece: R. Struass' 1st Horn Concerto if you didn't know.

The Horn playing is pretty good but it looks like he moves around a whole lot and might have an odd standing posture (it seems to suck the air out of the high notes a bit).

  • I love this piece.

  • Hahaha, what ever that means...lol... this is not me... or any one i no... i just saw the concert..lol...

  • haha thats really bad lag...
