This is such a GREAT video! Bravo! I wonder if his fingers ever get tired?! He goes so fast! I could watch him play all day.Love the sounds of ALL his violins.
wow, that purple haze solo rocks! It's hard to tell how much is him, and how much is the backing band. (does he play any of the distorted power chords?)
I dunno Katescandyshack......it looks pretty darn comfortable to me! Mark sure looks comfy playing it. This is a GREAT demo of all his violins. GREAT JOB Mark...and in one song..I think we heard Laura's great hauntingly beautiful voice! NICE. Bravo!
Do any bowed instruments have adjustable saddles/bridge for intonation/action like electric guitars? Do you know where to find guitars modified or made for playing with bows? I have seen one somewhere, it was a 6 string with a radically curved fretboard and cutaway body, played on the lap or on a post like cellos.
I think its ugly, but you can't beat the sound with any other electric or amped conventional violin. I think its going to shake up metal music and give birth to some new solo superheroes.
Not at all. You still need violin skill to play with or without them. And these instruments involve playing right on the fret.....i know...i have one. :-). So it is a little bit different. Mark went to Julliard anyways.....so he kicks serious tail classically too....check out his bow arm...amazing. :-)
That is a design fault then. I have a $700 ibanez guitar with fixed bridge that intonates very very well. It took a few string guage trials, and some tinkering with neck tension and saddle adjustments, but it was worth it.
7 strings from high to low are E,A,D,G,C,F, and B flat

I must say that... although it aren't exactly elec. violins...
The cello's of Apocalyptica have a much better overall tone!
I'm not saying they're better (although you must not under-rate them!)

yeh frets ARE kinda cheating - plus, like guitar and any other fretted instrument, you'll never be able to play it EXACTLY in tune.
but I think its good in that its more easily acessible than a standard violin.
