  • hahaha lol 900 MHz :0

very bad laptops have you buy in 2008

    *cry*

  • i think vista loads slower because of the logo start

  • that xp does not boot up that fast!!! im on an xp right now got it about a week ago and it takes like 5 min just to say welcome

  • @oscarsanders07 Then you need to remove some of the crap from your computer. run "msconfig" and see what is in the startup.

  • windows 7 wins

  • how can i do a background on eee pc?

  • @leviajax8 did you ever figure it out because i cant

  • Who the hell would put Vista on a netbook?

  • ive had my vista computer for almost 2 years now and its still running a hell of alot faster than my parents xp which is 3 years old

  • probably because they have porn viruses :p

  • no its just had a lot of shit. it crashes all the time. so we bring it to geek squad, and they don't even fix it right. so then we go and fix it again. still isn't fixed. etc.

  • does this have built in wifi

  • ok, so im buying this laptop tommorow, the guy sais the 1GB of RAM is NOT able to be uprgraded, or made larger to 2GB, 3GB ect. is this true or is he just stupid?

  • @belkeSMASH. The EEE PC 900 is wierd. Some brands of 2GB ram work and others dont. I understand Asus gimped the bios to only officially support 1GB to keep Intel happy, but I have found some brands of 2GB ram do actually work. If you go down the Linux route you should be able to use up to 3.5GB.

  • @earthling10 What ram brand can i use to extend it ???(windows xp)

  • ok guys listen up, i have vista sp1 and it can take up to 10 minutes to open firefox, i have 1 gig ram, if i use xp, will it be alot faster?

  • what is your system? EEE PC? Something Else?

There could be a number of things wrong with your computer which causes firefox to open slowly.

1st. Get SP2 for Vista, it rocks

2nd. Defragment your drive. download JkDefrag (just google it) works much better than the Vista defragger imho

3rd. Check what programs are running on startup and see if you really need them starting up.

4th. If you still don't like how slow things are, then go for it! Wipe Vista and use XP.

    Good luck :)

  • tell me wich processor do you have, and yes, will be faster, but there's other options to make vista faster.

  • Get more RAM, will cost much less. Another 2GB RAM will cost around $20 while Windows XP will cost $128 at places they still sell it.

  • @CrazyAd88 Yes, but you should used Chrome to make things REALLY fast.

  • my thought is tht if u have a new computer, vista will run betr, if its bout a year or older, xp is betr

  • I have a new laptop now for like 2 days with vista on it and it runs very well...

  • ok...that means absolutely nothing, dude...for one. you've only had it for 2 days, and second the hardware has finally caught up with vista, so there shouldnt be any problems with simply running the OS. so we see now that you've not given any new information to the world. your laptop is irrelevent.

  • i've had a vista laptop since this past fall and it works great. the only problem is that it boots up very slow so i ctrl+alt+delete and log off and log back in and it loads fine. my friend who has a vista laptop says the same thing happens with him

  • Xp is best yesterday my vista fail and i buy new Xp 8gb ram is fast XP RULEE!!!!!!

  • xp rulez !

vista = fail ! (fail only with service pack 1 lol)

  • vista service pack one is good

  • GREAT RE VIEW

  • Test 3: Demo Mode

Interestingly, when in demo mode, the Vista Unit loaded the tests fatser than XP leaving XP trailing a little. I have no explanation why this is.

    ___

This is because NTFS v5 is faster than the NTFS v4 from XP.

  • once you turn off all the popups and annoying stuff in vista its actually better then xp...

  • @BMWWHEELMAN If you want to do anything like networking, anything that involves the internet then it isn't . Vista is crap. You can't argue with the abysmal sales. The decisions to not buy the O/S were made by people far more qualified than you and I.

  • get a lenovo s10. it makes other netbooks look like toys.

  • my 5 year old pc use 1min to start vista completely with antivirus and aero effecs

  • Vista is better than XP. I haven't seen much to tell me otherwise. I use Vista daily and its awesome. I used to use XP till I couldn't take its hanging, slowness and ability to get viruses for absolutely no reason. So no, Vista isn't a bad system. Its just been given bad publicity. Move on to Vista or wait for 7, but they are the same exact thing, with 7 adding a few new things and better performance.

  • Getting viruses has to do with the user, not the Operating System. I've never gotten a virus and I use a free anti-virus. It depends on how smart you are that determines if you get a virus.

  • Ummm yeah I'm pretty smart and know how to use a computer. I hope you're not insinuating that I'm stupid, which i don't think you are. But no, the system does make a difference. As i stated before, i didn't do anything bad and my xp computer would still get viruses from just going on the internet. That has nothing to do with intelligence. I never did anything bad with that computer and it still got viruses. Thats not my fault or a lack of intelligence.

  • you could just get a antivirus, and xp is way faster it depends how ram you have

  • Really. I've run XP since it came out and there were some early problems, but I've run for years and years and years without any problems with viruses or anything. I am a programmer so I keep closer tabs on running processes than most anyone else does, but a properly configured and maintained XP install is _rock_solid_. as was win 2000 pro/server.

  • Either that pc is a 32bit or it has a lot of info that slows down start-up. I got a 64bit pc and it runs in half the time with vista...people are afraid of change and won't let go of XP, but any how people WILL have to adapt to a new OS 'case XP will no longer be supported, if you like windows upgrade is out of the question, but windows 7 is getting a lot of buzz. We'll see how it turns out

  • thas not really like it since windows 2000 was a fail ppl was still using 98 till xp i had vista for a month then i when back to xp too much problems man

  • Vista is quite bad operating system....

I'm waiting windows 7,during that windows xp is running on my computer....

Windows 7 is going to be 10x better than vista.

  • if windows based on NT5.0 kernel, then Windows 2000. you will see what it means fast.

i personally still use old one - win98SE with some unofficial updates...

but if you are skilled enough really - try Ubuntu linux.

  • yes, and microsoft will rape for cash for that inevitable pile of rubbish as well!

  • The fact that computers struggle with Vista is not down to the power of the machine, but rather the fact that Vista is badly written bloatware.

Microsoft is busy adding "updates" to XP to make that slow as well, so when windows 7 comes out we can all marvel at how fast it is, microsoft hoping we forgot that XP used to be fast.

Anyway thats all history for me as I used Ubuntu Linux and Centos Linux now.

    Nice little PCs though!

  • can you overclock them

  • With the eeectl application

  • That's it, I want one!

  • windows 7?

  • All I have to say, is that XP runs faster than vista in an environment with the same configuration (hardware/software), and I don't know of any 32 bit program that runs on vista and doesn't on xp. So for performance, I'll stay with XP, I'll be waiting for the new windows though, they say it will be "better"

  • Stop waiting, use Ubuntu Linux and open office now! Run it with Compiz fusion desktop and you'll never go back.

  • well i atilkl like vista better

  • wtf is a SD HDD meant to be?

  • Solid State. No moving parts. Bassically a huge memory stick in the computer.

  • I know what he meant, I was just being padantic about the acronym he appears to have invented. Especially with the space in-between. SD in computer terms usually means Secure Digital (SD cards) and HDD well...

Anyway, I was being stupid. Sorry.

  • i dont see the difference between the two

  • omfg.. the xp was faster

  • EEEPCs are rugged devices ( well the SSD models). They are cheap, and easy to replace-ideal for a school environment, or a workplace. Moreso than many of the so-called rugged laptops which have one faliure point which most of the EEE's lack; the HDD.

Laptop choice is purely subjective so hence cut the slandering.

Anyway doesnt the EEEPC have a better battery life with Vista?

  • lol this argument is great

  • k shutup on here and go cry to ur mommy, fuck ppl like u are rly annoying and ruin youtube

  • if you have more than 2 gb of ram you don't have a problem with vista

  • vista pro's - dx10!!! - awesome look and feel - something new - preparing for the future (products coming out just for vista etc) vista cons - slow on systems with less than 2gb ram, otherwise its just as fast tbh (if you tweak vista to get rid of some unwanted crap then it runs uber fast) - more buggy in some areas (nothing you cant fix though) - not as much driver support, but its increasing - doesnt support some older programs the facts basically...
  • People if you are building a new computer with a better processor, and more than 2 gb of ram, it starts up amazingly fast, but if you stuipd and upgrade to vista on a 10 year old computer of course your going to have slower speeds, vista is ment to have atleast 2.6ghz process on a celeron thats why dell computers are slow with vista.

  • still going to be amazingly faster on xp...a friend of mine has both on his hp quad core system and xp is so much faster...for some obvious reasons. but there's hardly a reason to use vista plus supposedly windows 7 isn't too far away

  • could you please drop in an 8 gig usb lighting drive from lexar or a fast usb drive and try the ready boost feature...i know on my desktop i can tell a night and day difference using ready boost with my programs and yes i have tried vista lite xp lite etc..i know there is significant improvememnt with readyboost and without..

  • how do yuo get xp on der?

  • i agree i like xp better than vista, but imo xp doesn't at all give you more reliability, just freedom.

  • How many FPS Max?

  • Attach the test in reality, or is it your camera is too slow?

  • I hope the lag in 3dmark 03 is just because of the crap camera, cause the fps is REALLY bad otherwise and thats a very olde version of 3dmark...

  • Or it could just be that the EEE PC 900 hardware doesnt run 3D mark 03 all that well.

  • Well Ive seen videos of it running some games with are a lot more demanding quite well

  • don't get me wrong - I like the Eee PC. But in almost every example of games running on the Eee - they have dropped the frame rate WAY down.

  • 3D Mark 03 is not a game, its a graphical benchmarking stress test. Its not an optimised gaming code. You use the score to compare performance with other systems.

  • I know this, I have used it heaps before, but it is designed to benchmark the GAMING ability of a computer. And yes i would certainly expect more recent versions to run very lagy, but this is 03, almost anything can run 03 now days smoothly

  • nice! loving vista on the eee900 - going to take the plunge and order one now

    Cheers for uploading :)

  • You won't get the most out of Vista using the EEE PC 900.

  • I'm sorry, but Vista is THE WORST OS that could ever be put on ANY computer. XP isn't perfect by ANY stretch, but XP will out perform Vista ANY DAY in both functionality and reliability.

  • no need to apologize - got my eeepc, using XP on it, and vista on my main rig. happy with both (btw had vista since may 07, no re-install necessary)

don't care for your opinion because it's absolutely brilliant for me. and yep, it's an opinion too. like yours. respect it.

  • whoops - sorry - comment directed @ videoguyNC

did i break the comments system when i hit 'reply'?

  • I have had Vista on my laptop since September last year (when I bought it). So far it runs as fast as it did when I got it and I have never reinstalled the OS. I know I may be one of the "lucky" ones but still, it's not the worst OS ever. That'd be all the Mac OSes before 10. Vista also has more functionality than XP easily. Or are you one of the many who jumps on the band wagon without actual knowledge or experience?

  • Actually - I have very thurough knowledge of Vista and XP. See - I work with computers for a living. I can likely tell you more about the technical issues in vista than you'd EVER want to know. Vista will get you by if you are not a power user AT ALL. But if you use your PC for anything beyond browsing the web and email, you WILL eventually have issues with Vista. I have found vista to be less stable than XP when using SERIOUS video editing software and powerful Photoshop apps.

  • so it kinda depends weather you like looks or speed. correct?

  • I'd prefer looks over speed. I use my computer mostly for internet. Usually to um "find" (download) movies, watch videos, or talk to family online. So even if it is slow, I don't really care if my internet sucks. I like to read the youtube comments and the description to the side. And it still goes pretty fast on bebo or myspace when I'm talking to relatives. So I'm happy. But if I were still a gamer, I'd most likely prefer XP,

  • Vista is 10 times more stable than XP!

  • Vista looks way better. but its not as fast in boot up

  • Aero doesn't run on the EEE PC 900 so the best you can hope for is 'basic mode' visual.

  • @earthling10 I'd prefer a faster operating system over some animated menus and stupid icon shading.

  • Ever had an unstable Windows XP? I never had...

  • ummm... yeah.

i installed vista and everything was grand. then i installed xp because i used to like it better, and i got a BSOD within 5 minutes of installing.

  • Jaaa newbie!

  • wait can both use msn

  • yes

  • my vista is better than your

  • you should use 3dmark01 SE, it's supported under linux using wine....

  • XP kicks Vistas ass anytime... so why bother using bugged up suxxor vista ey?

  • An OS isnt there to drain system resources.

  • Boooooooring ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzZZZZZ BTW i like vista more, better than that Ugly old xp... Vista haters get used to it... U cant stop vista MS is ending support for Xp this year And when u buy a new pc u have to use vista so there.

  • Why would you want to stop Vista? You want it to come and go as fast as possible. Like a bad smell.

Unfortunately, Windows 7 is just an improved version of Vista. There isn't any new kernel written from the ground up. The system requirements remain the same as Vista.

Support for WinXP Home (for "nettops" and "netbooks" like EeePC) is being extended to 2010.

  • At the very least Windows 7 will be "slimmed" with binary-level backwards compatability being removed (think it uses over a gig of space atm). I can't imagine too many people use the compatability mode feature anyway.

On the plus side without a new kernel all current Vista programs and drivers will work instantly and there's also work going into improving boot times etc.

  • When you buy a PC you don't have to use anything, it's up to you, unless you're a fool. Which you obviously are. Vista haters hate Vista because they like stability. Get over it.

  • Yea umm i changed my mind bcuz i got 2Gbs of Ram which is enough for vista but it still sucks... Xp - Stable,Fast, etc.

  • This tec. belongs to 20th century, so dont expect some major speed out of it when Vista is running. However which looks shitter? - OFCURSE LEFT ONE.

Get a decent computer and Vista will pwn you XP on it.

WARNING: Shit comments comin below and top!

  • It may be awkward, uncomfortably small, and impractical, but...at least its slow...

  • Well said, sir.

  • how do you get vista on there?

  • u dont vista sux penis

  • hahahahhahahha nice one

  • wow i got ur reply fast

  • this one's faster

  • never mind..

  • LMAO HAHAHHAHAH !

  • How did you get Vista to run on there? You must have like hacked it or something. Vista should not have installed unless you changed the hardware which would be very difficult to do on a computer that size.

  • Ive uploaded a new video - EEE PC 900 Vista vs XP vs Xandros boot and shutdown test. Check out my channel for more details.

  • wow xp wooped its ass

    anyway vista is shit

  • The booting speed plays a great role with your pc. It show you how well your components run when you have a certain operating system.

  • THE BOOTING SPEED DOSEN MATHER AT ALL

  • hmm the slow frame rate of the video quality itself might be deceiving for people who actually want to know how the test actually runs.

  • When was the 900 released in Europe? I ordered a 701 at first, but the mic was defective so I pre-ordered a 900 (long return process). Wasn't even available until May 12th.

As for benchmarking, I think you should at least do startup times... but I don't have any alternative ideas.

  • I know you most likely don't have 3 of these things, but you should have put the Linux one up next to those two. It is even faster than that, I believe.

  • I do indeed have all three. I'm considering my benchmarking options for all three OS. Perhaps ray tracing? Let me know if you have any suggestions.

  • Is it the bog-standard Xandros distro?

  • Yes
