@BMWWHEELMAN If you want to do anything like networking, anything that involves the internet then it isn't . Vista is crap. You can't argue with the abysmal sales. The decisions to not buy the O/S were made by people far more qualified than you and I.
Vista is better than XP. I haven't seen much to tell me otherwise. I use Vista daily and its awesome. I used to use XP till I couldn't take its hanging, slowness and ability to get viruses for absolutely no reason. So no, Vista isn't a bad system. Its just been given bad publicity. Move on to Vista or wait for 7, but they are the same exact thing, with 7 adding a few new things and better performance.
Getting viruses has to do with the user, not the Operating System. I've never gotten a virus and I use a free anti-virus. It depends on how smart you are that determines if you get a virus.
Ummm yeah I'm pretty smart and know how to use a computer. I hope you're not insinuating that I'm stupid, which i don't think you are. But no, the system does make a difference. As i stated before, i didn't do anything bad and my xp computer would still get viruses from just going on the internet. That has nothing to do with intelligence. Really. I've run XP since it came out and there were some early problems, but I've run for years and years and years without any problems with viruses or anything. I am a programmer so I keep closer tabs on running processes than most anyone else does, but a properly configured and maintained XP install is _rock_solid_. as was win 2000 pro/server.
Either that pc is a 32bit or it has a lot of info that slows down start-up. We'll see how it turns out
thas not really like it since windows 2000 was a fail ppl was still using 98 till xp i had vista for a month then i when back to xp too much problems man
The fact that computers struggle with Vista is not down to the power of the machine, but rather the fact that Vista is badly written bloatware.
Microsoft is busy adding "updates" to XP to make that slow as well, so when windows 7 comes out we can all marvel at how fast it is, microsoft hoping we forgot that XP used to be fast.
Anyway thats all history for me as I used Ubuntu Linux and Centos Linux now.
All I have to say, is that XP runs faster than vista in an environment with the same configuration (hardware/software), and I don't know of any 32 bit program that runs on vista and doesn't on xp. So for performance, I'll stay with XP, I'll be waiting for the new windows though, they say it will be "better"

vista pro's - dx10!!! - awesome look and feel - something new - preparing for the future (products coming out just for vista etc) vista cons - slow on systems with less than 2gb ram, otherwise its just as fast tbh (if you tweak vista to get rid of some unwanted crap then it runs uber fast) - more buggy in some areas (nothing you cant fix though) - not as much driver support, but its increasing - doesnt support some older programs the facts basically...
People if you are building a new computer with a better processor, and more than 2 gb of ram, it starts up amazingly fast, but if you stuipd and upgrade to vista on a 10 year old computer of course your going to have slower speeds, vista is ment to have atleast 2.6ghz process on a celeron thats why dell computers are slow with vista.

I know this, I have used it heaps before, but it is designed to benchmark the GAMING ability of a computer. And yes i would certainly expect more recent versions to run very lagy, but this is 03, almost anything can run 03 now days smoothly
I'm sorry, but Vista is THE WORST OS that could ever be put on ANY computer. XP isn't perfect by ANY stretch, but XP will out perform Vista ANY DAY in both functionality and reliability.
I have had Vista on my laptop since September last year (when I bought it). So far it runs as fast as it did when I got it and I have never reinstalled the OS. I know I may be one of the "lucky" ones but still, it's not the worst OS ever. That'd be all the Mac OSes before 10. Vista also has more functionality than XP easily. Or are you one of the many who jumps on the band wagon without actual knowledge or experience?
Actually - I have very thurough knowledge of Vista and XP. See - I work with computers for a living. I can likely tell you more about the technical issues in vista than you'd EVER want to know. Vista will get you by if you are not a power user AT ALL. But if you use your PC for anything beyond browsing the web and email, you WILL eventually have issues with Vista. I have found vista to be less stable than XP when using SERIOUS video editing software and powerful Photoshop apps.
I'd prefer looks over speed. I use my computer mostly for internet. Usually to um "find" (download) movies, watch videos, or talk to family online. So even if it is slow, I don't really care if my internet sucks. I like to read the youtube comments and the description to the side. And it still goes pretty fast on bebo or myspace when I'm talking to relatives. So I'm happy. But if I were still a gamer, I'd most likely prefer XP,
Boooooooring ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzZZZZZ BTW i like vista more, better than that Ugly old xp... Vista haters get used to it... U cant stop vista MS is ending support for Xp this year And when u buy a new pc u have to use vista so there.

Support for WinXP Home (for "nettops" and "netbooks" like EeePC) is being extended to 2010.
At the very least Windows 7 will be "slimmed" with binary-level backwards compatability being removed (think it uses over a gig of space atm). I can't imagine too many people use the compatability mode feature anyway.
On the plus side without a new kernel all current Vista programs and drivers will work instantly and there's also work going into improving boot times etc.
When you buy a PC you don't have to use anything, it's up to you, unless you're a fool. Which you obviously are. Vista haters hate Vista because they like stability. Get over it.
How did you get Vista to run on there? You must have like hacked it or something. Vista should not have installed unless you changed the hardware which would be very difficult to do on a computer that size.
When was the 900 released in Europe? I ordered a 701 at first, but the mic was defective so I pre-ordered a 900 (long return process). Wasn't even available until May 12th.
As for benchmarking, I think you should at least do startup times... but I don't have any alternative ideas.
I know you most likely don't have 3 of these things, but you should have put the Linux one up next to those two. It is even faster than that, I believe.

CrazyAd88 2 years ago
what is your system? EEE PC? Something Else?
There could be a number of things wrong with your computer which causes firefox to open slowly.
1st. Get SP2 for Vista, it rocks
2nd. Defragment your drive. download JkDefrag (just google it) works much better than the Vista defragger imho
3rd. Check what programs are running on startup and see if you really need them starting up.
4th. If you still don't like how slow things are, then go for it! Wipe Vista and use XP.
Good luck :)

How did you get Vista to run on there? You must have like hacked it or something. Vista should not have installed unless you changed the hardware which would be very difficult to do on a computer that size.

The booting speed plays a great role with your pc. It show you how well your components run when you have a certain operating system.

hmm the slow frame rate of the video quality itself might be deceiving for people who actually want to know how the test actually runs.

I do indeed have all three. I'm considering my benchmarking options for all three OS. Perhaps ray tracing? Let me know if you have any suggestions.
