If i was younger, i would say "duh" to the title of this video. But omg, i lose many matches because im don't see if the next move is fatal or not. Recently, i gave my opponent a double checker jump and i resigned from the game. I hate myself now but every failure is a gift because it shows your flaws. My flaw in that game is that i don't look ahead "always." I do in the beginning but not all the time.
Have you seen this single corner transposition into the "invincible line"? In my beginner days I used to see some weaker programs fall into this. 11-15 22-18 xx 8-11 29-25 10-14 24-19 11-16 26-22 16-20 28-24 4-8 19-15 7-11 24-19? 11-16 30-26 3-7 27-24 xx 16-20 32-27 7-10 15-11 xx 9-13 22-18 5-9 11-8 2-7 8-3 13-17 3-8 red to move and win. 7-11 x 17-22 x 12-16 I used to call it the "double brooklyn." Never seen a human use 26-22 at white move 5 though; they seem to like 25-22 or 27-24.
@APolaris Thank you very much! I am going to go over this in the next few days. I been going over this variation recently but in a different way. Being from Brooklyn, i like the name "double Brooklyn. Nice work!!
There may be variations, but in the "official" rules, is it ok to jump your own checkers? I know people that play this way, and they don't remove their own checkers, its just a way to have more freedom to move. I had never heard of this.
Most instructions I have seen don't mention this. The only thing it said in the instructions is that all jumped checkers must be removed from the board, which would mean that you would have to remove your own checkers, which would be a big disadvantage.
@romansten9 You are correct the rules is just like you said, you cannot jump over your own checkers. You also have to jump when you have one mandatory jump but you can choose which way you jump. You also remove your opponent checkers after the completion on the jumps again just like you said. There was a variation game called "kings" that you could jump over your own man. You can go to "The Checker Maven" by Bob Newell. for more. There are different variations in Checkers. Thank you!
2 things, it's not 'THE correct move' if there are other variations, also why do you like a line which forces a draw? why play the game if you turn up for a tornie then play a book draw, you are not actually playing ar all
Hi Checkercycle, thank you for your abosorbing entries.I'm a novice at draughts, but I've watched your videos here in England &I love them.I play chess(I'm not great but it's been a fond companion all my life)& I wrongly thought draughts was a simple game.Your videos have shown me it is beautiful, subtle and intricate. Thanks! One request:could you do a video showing BASIC strategy/ideas for beginners?Your moves are wonderful but sometimes a little deep for me(!)Either way, keep up the great work!
Hi Thinkbubbles! Thank you very much! I also play chess but draughts is my favorite game right now. England has a fine tradition in both games. I will do a video on some of the basic strategy probably after the holidays. I find that you can combine some ideas from both games.
Breaking news! Great checkercycle reveals his identity at last! Thank you checkercycle for unfolding your identity and thank you so much for continuing giving good checker lessons, they are awesome! I love the way you teach, keep up your good work!
