It seems like a big part of the Zune Marketplace is discovering new artists and songs that you've probably never heard before and I usually like to preview more than 30 seconds of a song before I feel comfortable buying it. I'm pretty selective with what I'll actually put in my library so unlimited previewing ability seems fine to me. Also, I'd assume that Microsoft would sell MORE songs because people are discovering more songs they want to buy than just whatever's playing on the radio.
This guy is dumb, think about it , if you were to pay the $15 monthly price, and u get to keep 10 songs for free every month, at the average $1 song, you are basically only paying $5 a month for unlimited music!
NO. iTunes and iPods are lame. If I am listening to a song on HD Radio I can download that straight from the market place... Can an iPod do that? (no, because it doesn't even have an hd radio reciever) The point is, Zune Pass is awesome and worth every penny
I have a ZuneHD, and I have zune pass, and it is awesome. not only do I get to keep 10 DRM free songs a month, but I also have access to listen and download ALL of the songs from the Zune Marketplace. in reality, I am only paying $5 a month to basically rent the music. can iTunes do that?
Well I think of it this way. Take 2 people that will live to the age of 80. One buys an album of 15 songs every month for $15 for their entire life, even as a baby, just for the sake of argument. The other pays $15 a month to maintain a Zune pass account where he/she downloads an average of 30 songs per month for their entire life, even as a baby, just for the sake of argument. I will continue in another comment.
On the day of their respective deaths their total cost and music collection will be as follows. Person one will have spent a total of $14,400. They will have a collection of 14,400 songs on their computer that will be of no use to them because they are dead. Person two, on the other hand, will have also spent $14,400. They will have a collection of 19,200 songs that will be inaccessible due to not paying on the account and 9,600 DRM free songs on their computer but they too will be dead.
What they mean is you get to download up to 10 DRM free songs every month. Any other songs you download you get to play for as long as you maintain your subscription. If you stop paying for the subscription you still have the files on your computer but they are inaccessible unless you start paying again.
wow really people anyone who downloads songs from the itunes store or even the zune marketplace are stupid because....1 u can eather rip ur own cds....or 2 u can download thousands of songs for FREE from limewire or frostwire or bearshare or any other music sharing software....really...
@Sk8Dude219 This is true but I argue that downloading from any of those file sharing programs is equivalent to stealing albums from a record store. You are preventing the artist from profiting from their talent and hard work.
Who is going to put their ipod or iphone inside a drawer to run out and buy a ZUNE (of all things), just so they can RENT music for $15 per month?
Song rental has been tried before and failed. That's why Apple came up with a way to OWN your music for a lot cheaper than buying CDs.
itunes store offers songs for 69ç, FREE podcasts, games, and apps, movie buys or rentals. NO WAY you need to spend thousands to fill your ipod or iphone.
10 gained songs at 15 a month so 120 song for 150$ a year
So: 1.25 per song.
However thats pure Cost to song. Your not factoring access rights to massive library. So unless your stealing songs or only listen to 20 or so at any given time (20 a month is 20$ I tunes, still costs more then the Zune)
But here is the fun part, if you get to keep 10 songs and you do have a 120GB player, it would take you 165 YEARS to fill that with songs that you own.
2:20 - Your Zune account can be put on up to three computers.
Zune vs. Itunes is a preference thing. I switched to Zune three months ago within that time period I have compiled 10,946 songs. Had I tried to do this in a legal fashion using Itunes I would have spent 11 grand, something I am most certainly not willing to do.
Only keeping 10 tracks a month is not the selling point here, the point is that you can get access to a lot of music, so you can afford to just download them and listening to it. Also, not being able to keep the rest of the songs wasn't in the fine print. Frankly, if someone think that they can own millions of songs for $14.99, then the must be really stupid...
I would happily pay the same amount without 'owning' the music, I can still play it on my computer and Zune, so who care?
everyone already has access to 15 million free songs through Limewire and Torrents, so they are trying to scam you $15 each month for something that is already free.
Is MS scamming you? Or are you scamming the entire music industry? Besides, the way you put it, to pay for any creativity is a scam, including buying music from iTunes because your argument was that why pay for music when it's free.
the math is... you pay $180 a year to keep 120 songs... so it's $1.50 per song... with the iTunes Store, you aren't forced to buy songs each month, plus the songs are cheaper, the iTunes song library is 10 million songs (Zune is 3+ million) and there is no DRM, so the iTunes Store is a better value.
I don't think so... since you're comparing an annual fee, let's put this another way.
In the iTunes store, for $180, you get 181/182 songs, but for the same money with a Zune Pass you get access to all 3 million + songs plus the 120 that you get to keep.
I would sacrifice several dozens songs for access to millions in a heartbeat. Zune Pass is simply the best way to listen to music at the moment, unless spotify changes its mind and offer download.
First off this commercial is a stupid comparison. This is plain and simple renting versus buying. With Zune Pass you're renting your music (other than the 10 you keep) with iTunes you're owning your music. It's up to the individual, some people rent, some own. I prefer to own. I prefer to have something to show for my money. I iTunes/Mac therefore I am....
Don't think they "in the fine print" hide that it's DRM..plus using Douche to describe the spokesperson really degrades your intellingence as a viable opinion.
As far as CD's burning laying around...If i can recall, they aren't free either?
We'll I've had the Zune pass, then stopped using it. I realized that if I take the time to download a song from the Marketplace, or anywhere, then that means I like it so much that I want to keep it, not rent it. Period.
Zune pass 14.99 keep ten song itunes song are 1.00, so ten songs = 10.00 your zune pass realy cost 5.00 you get unlimited songs for 5.00 a mouth you don't lost your songs when the mouth is over , you lost your song when you stop payin, your 5 bucks, come on you know what happens when dont pay Netflix, same thing pay your fee and you'll get your movies.
My friend bought all his songs with DRM, this was a while back when ever song had it. Now iTunes wants to charge him two hundred something in order to take the DRM off so he can fully have access to the music he already bought.
no, it's only .29 cents for double the quality, so I kinda doubt he has bought 700+ songs... you can remove the DRM for free by burning them to a CD, so it's not like you have to pay extra, it's only if you want the higher (256K) quality... and most people can't tell the difference so what is your point again?
Quote from my friend "600 total songs, 24 albums, 189 individually bought songs
so its $131.10 to upgrade it all
which is a fucking joke" So it may not be $200 but WTF? $130 for stuff he already bought? And he is also an audiophile and can will rarely listen to any 128s or below.
no, no, no... Apple is the one that fought long and hard to even GET legal music online... there would be no Zune Pass, no iTunes Store, etc if it wasn't for Apple.
part of the early agreement to allow ANY legal songs to be online was DRM... that was the record companies REQUIRING it... there was no choice.
so please learn the long story of how iTunes and the iTunes Store came into being... thanks.
Ok whatever you won. I could really care less anyways I get my music free. All I know is iTunes wants a lot of money to "upgrade"(general term) his music he already paid for. I think thats stupid. You and I differ from there on out. Good day.
2. Yes, on iTunes you get to keep what you BUY. But that can be a lot of money, and that is the reason why no one puts 30,000 songs on their iPod. Before Zune pass, my Zune was ¼ full because I do not have enough money to buy a lot of songs. Every time I press buy in Amazon (I hate the MS points in the Zunemarket) it hurts. So, I do not press it a lot. With the Zune pass, however, I managed to almost fill my Zune because it does not hurt to press download.
The major problem I have with people supporting subscription model is how they keep on saying "you'll be getting a great deal in the long run". It does seem like it doesn't it. However, if you step back and think about it, this is not the case. Why?
You'll be suffering from the law of diminishing return. In the long term, you'll be losing more than you gain.
This is akin to an all you can eat buffer. Each month you're still sinking in $5 just to keep the service going.
1. The "keep ten songs" is new. At the beginning, it was just 15 dollars and that is it. That was horrible and that was the fact why I did not get it. The whole "keep 10" is new and is a great improvement.
But tell me, what is wrong with just keeping 10? You pay 15 dollars and month a get to keep 10. That means you are buying 10 songs "that you already know you like", plus paying 5 dollars for the "chance" to listen to all of the songs in the zunemarket.
Good, don't try to fool your self. You are ultimately paying for a "service".
However, I see it quite differently. Renting music is merely allowing you to sample music over and over again. To me, it's like going to a virgin megastore and listening to a track on a album booth. Sure, you can put it a device and you can search to a large library. both novel idea imo. I have plenty of ways to sample music both online and on the radio. Why should I pay for such a service?
Big deal? Well consider one thing...I can download 1,253,637 songs in that same month on ZunePass. Yes, they go poof when I stop paying, but what about the time I spend listening to ALL THOSE SONGS in the meantime?
Over the course of one year, I'd spend $180 on ZunePass to download and listen to thousand of songs, and then keep 120 if I stop.
Unless the novelty of having a mil songs AT THE SAME TIME is that important to you, it's moot. (yes...it's a novelty...)
People that thinks that way are merely sacrificing long term value to short term gain.
In the end of the day, you're simply buying 10 songs and renting the rest.
Think of this, if you have a collection of around 5000 songs with Zune pass and "keeping 10 songs for FREE" as they put it. Eventually, you'll be "buying" that entire collection but paying 50% more.
Buying them indevidualy costs about the same in the zune marketpace individual songs costs about 79 Microsoft points costs 1,25/100 MPs no matter how many you buy at the same time so 100 MPs = 1,25$ /(4/5) /(4/5) 80 MPs = 1$ 1 song = 79 MPs 1 song = 1$ - 1 MP 1 song = 1$ - (1/100 * 1,25) 1 song = 1$ - 0,0125$ 1 song = 0,9875$ Plus their argument is that you can LISTEN to unlimited songs on your zune so that you dont have to pay about 30 000$ plus 30 000 songs * 0.025 = 75$ savings
they don't say you get to keep them and there's an ad explaining to get to keep 10 songs a month. it shouldn't be too hard to work out you don't keep the rest. it's a good deal if you regularly download song but if you only get like an album a month it could work out much more expensive. i personally think its cool that more methods are becoming available.
It's a subscription service which means as long as you pay the fee you get unlimited access to the entire music library, in addition you get to own 10 song a month. It says "subscription" right in the ad, and the new ad makes it clear that you get 10 song downloads a month. Pretty good video but I think you're reaching for points, I think now that iTunes songs are priced higher up to $1.29 people are going to look for something else, $.99 was the sweet spot.
it's not that it's a bad deal, Microsoft should come out and say you know you only get to keep 10 songs per month! They neglected to put that across in the Ad. That's my biggest point with the video! Thanks for your opinion and the view!
Really? This is how I thought of this concept. With the Zune Pass: 1. I am forced to pay for 10 songs 2. forced to pay $5.00 to sample a bunch of songs If there is 1 more song I like: I can either spend $1 more to "pay" for this song. OR risk losing it unless I pay $15 at the end of the month to keep my collection be, in which I am force to pay for the song anyway and be forced to pay for 9 additional songs. What would've cost me $11 ONLY cost me $11 + $9 for additional song + $10 rent fee
Ok, downside to the iTunes music is the DRM stuff. Im not sure what the Zune store uses (if any). Thats why I use Amazon to buy my music. But yes, sort of rediculous commercial. In theory, if u went with a zunepass, you would be paying $1.49 for each song at $14.99/month and keeping 10. whereas the itunes store is $.99 plus some apple tax.
When I first saw the ad, I was like "Huh, this isn't an invalid point they're making." I went to the Zune Pass website and proceeded to laugh at Microsoft lying once again.
It's true you only get to keep 10 a month, but you still get to listen and download as many songs as you want onto your pc or zune player. I think its an ok idea cause you can change out your songs as much as you want without paying more then 14.99 a month. And its legal:). Not that Itunes isnt. But whatever to each there own:). Peace
It seems like a big part of the Zune Marketplace is discovering new artists and songs that you've probably never heard before and I usually like to preview more than 30 seconds of a song before I feel comfortable buying it. I see people making this point over and over again. That zune pass make sense to me cause I download over 15 tracks a month.
As I pointed out before. if you have a collection of 5000 songs on zune. In the long run you'll ended up paying for the collection + 50
% more.
If you are able to see thing in the long term and not short term. you'll see this as a losing proposition.
Just to point out, I know points I made are extreme. I just wanted people that see the pros to also recognize the cons.

unn, I think you are right.
The only way this can be fix then is if MS makes a subscription plan that cost 15/month for 15 songs plus unlimited.
Would MS win anything? Well, you would need to buy 15 song per month, so yeah they still make a profit (not as much as the current plan, though).
Thanks for showing me that.

But I see what you are saying, but I still don't see 5 buck a month a big deal. What I see as a big deal is the fact that I am forced to buy 10 songs.
MS needs to make a big variety of subscription plans.

On iTunes, for $180, I get 180 songs. Period.

If you pay $15 / month and keep 10 songs, that's $1.50 per song with ZunePass. (excluding the unlimited part)
If you use iTunes and buy 10 songs, it is anywhere from $10 to $12.90, depending on the song.
So, that's a $5 or $3.10 difference for buying 10 songs on iTunes than a Zune Pass per month. Meaning, 3 or 5 more songs for iTunes per month.

they don't say you get to keep them and there's an ad explaining to get to keep 10 songs a month. it shouldn't be too hard to work out you don't keep the rest. it's a good deal if you regularly download song but if you only get like an album a month it could work out much more expensive. i personally think its cool that more methods are becoming available.

I like the idea, think of it like this: You still get 1 song for $1. And you get unlimited songs for however long your subscription goes for only $5.

it's not that it's a bad deal, Microsoft should come out and say you know you only get to keep 10 songs per month! They neglected to put that across in the Ad. That's my biggest point with the video! Thanks for your opinion and the view!

They did say it, not in the first add, but in the second one.

I know the selling point of music subscription.
However, the point of RENTING is that you actually get to keep the file you're using.
UNLESS, conveniently, you keep on paying and paying and paying...
You actually only get to the $10 worth of music, and loss $5 due to sampling fee. (remember, this is every month...)
Maybe this sounds like a GREAT deal to you, but horrible to me.
Somehow, something tells me a majority of the people will think the same way I do.

Peace

I agree, I do not think the Zune has any power to replace the iPod, it has had to many years to dominant the industry.

zune is a waste of time. apple are too dominant and established in the music industry now
