  • I do pretty much the same thing. I start off with 20 push ups (though I do them on my knees because I'm a wimp), then I do 20 each of these with 3 lb dumbbells because that's all I've got: bicep curls, tricep kickbacks, upright rows, front raises, the lawn mower one, and tricep extensions. I haven't seen results yet, but it's still early. I'm going to try the tricep dips though, because that's my problem area! :)

  • how do you work out your arms without working out your chest? ive always been slim so i never really had a lot of boobs to start off with but i dont want to loose wat little boob i have left haha i know other girls are thinking this too xD

  • @heatherawrful That is to target your triceps! This is a regular pushup and the one you are talking about it is a Pilates pushup :)

  • I'm going to repeat the common theme amongst these comments: I can't do push-ups, either. I'm going to do them on my knees instead, there's just no way I can do it straight-legged yet.

  • @MeredithOD I used to not be able to do one pushup either but then i started lifting 3 pound weights in a ton of different ways and without really realizing it I was able to do like 15 pushups

  • Now that I am seeing myself in the mirror in t shirts I know I need to get my arms and upper body in better shape I look flabby even though Ive been dieting- I will try this exercise, even though it looks hard to me I am sure I iwll get better over time.

  • You can only get bigger muscles, there's no such thing as ''sculpting'' or ''toning'' your muscles. The only way to get more visible muscles is to get lower body fat. And why would you add ´´for women'' in the end of the title, men and women should do the exact same exercises, the only thing you have to think about is adapting the weigh of the dumbell/barbell/whatever to your strength level, which means you should be able to do between 8-16 reps..

  • @Aughal because women body build differently...girls do not build muscles like guys do because of the different hormones. But yeah-anyone can do it but certain exercises help girls more due to different hormones that effect things.

  • @OldTelivisionRocks Sorry for late comment but I'm gonna have to call bullshit on that one. Men and women build muscle the exact same way. By pushing their muscles to their max. They dont need to approach muscle building in any other way because of different hormones. The only way hormones effect is that men build muscles ALOT easier because of higher testosterone levels, so if you as a woman have the goal to build muscles you actually have to push yourself more than a man.

  • @Aughal But as I see it here most women have the goal to ''tone'' their arms whatever that now means. If you want to get more visible muscles you have to get lower bodyfat which you can only get by taking in less calories than you consume It's as simple as that. There's no such thing as spot fat removal and you cant remove fat from your arms by doing arm exercises as little as you can remove fat from your belly by doing ab exercises as alot of people(mostly women) also seem to think.

  • @Aughal Maybe I should also mention that I've been into bodybuilding/powerlifting for about 20 years and have been a fitness instructor for 7.

  • @Aughal No I know that, that is partly what I meant, but seriously I could do weights all day and it does little to really build me up...I am in a weight lifting class and nada results have come except becoming a little more strong, no weight loss comes from it. A BIT of toning perhaps.

  • Great workout. I agree that most people unnecessarily fear gaining too much muscle, not realizing what is involved. However, women do naturally have a small amount of testosterone.

  • I love introducing women to the bicep dumbbell curls and other arm exercises. I never cease to be amazed at how many women ask me about arms, before abs, legs or butt. ;) I get a kick out of it.

  • Hi Sarah,

    Just a couple of quick questions that I was wondering if you could answer for me.

    I'm trying desperately to lose weight, but i hate running! And it seems that a lot of workout videos concentrate on running as a warm up (plus I really want to tone my legs!) Any ideas to tone my legs without running? Also, I broke my wrist a while back so it is quite weak, are there alternatives to the triceps dips or other arm toning exercises?

  • If you are a beginner and you have never worked out before, you should not start with this program. she is not a personal trainer and she skips over majority of the injury prevention tips. Some of the things she suggests in this video (and other videos) are very dangerous to beginners. As an experienced personal trainer, I suggest you never take workout advice from anybody but a certified fitness trainer if you do not wish to get hurt.

  • @cnguyeen No - This is the bigggggest fitness myth. Women will NOT look bulky with weight training. Testosterone is needed to look big! Women don't have it.

    sometimes when i lift weights (they're only 5lbs), i feel like my elbow joints get really sore for some reason especially when i do lateral raises. what could i be doing wrong?

    plus .. i think you are doing TOO MUCH cardio .. i got caught in that too .. i thought by doing cardio i'll loose more fat .. but the truth that i over did it .. so the muscle was no longer tight .. i think you should cut down on cardio ;)
