  • Thanks for posting this. My parents moved to the Schenectady area in 1953, after my mom graduated college & my dad was out of the Army. Their first apt was on Guilderland Ave. in Rotterdam, then their first house was also in Rotterdam. The family moved to another house in Glenville just before I was born in 1965 and stayed there until Dad was transferred to TN (He worked for GE.) 35 years ago now. I've been back to the area a few times, most recently in 2004. Most everything has changed.

  • I was born in Sch'dy 70 years ago and remember Central park, the casino and sandy swimming pool. I really miss the city since I moved to Arizona 30 years ago. Thanx for the wonderful memories.

  • @zepodz1 Where did you live? Give me the address and I will go take pictures for you so you can remember way back. Id be happy to do it for you :-) Im going to Sch'tdy today for an appointment, just let me know as soon as you can!

  • Your videos have kept me in touch with Sch'dy for years I hear a lot of bad things about "crime" etc but the thing about that place is that there is a spirit unlike any other place on the planet. Like the Stockade area etc, Indian Ladders, now that I live in Fla. I realize how special that place is. I see you say Central Park changed the thing is that most places remain there & that isn't the case here in Fla. One day a corner store the next a Taco Bell. The beauty of that area is amazing TY!

  • @MusicCollaborator OMG, I am NOT a fan of that pool! They took out those amazing weeping willows! WOW it has changed! Thanks for the amazing videos! i HOPE THAT ARE IS RESTORED SOMEDAY

  • @MusicCollaborator They cant put them back because crimes were committed beneath the Willows! How sad is that? They were such beautiful trees!

  • @MusicCollaborator Thank you! Schenectady is and always be a part of my heart. She's a beat up old gal but she keeps right on going! So much has changed but the really big things are still visible to those who adored calling her home! Central Park, Jumpin jacks and Proctors. When I walk down State street? In my head, its still all there and I see it like it was and the tune "DOWN TOWN" Plays in my mind!

  • oh my gosh im from here and i miss that place SO much!!!!

  • @locamarii26 How long ago did you live here? Its a lot better in one way but its just falling apart in so many other ways. It breaks my heart when I come home for the day. The parks are all still beautiful though, wxcept for Group Park, thats all but GONE! Its locked up and gets vandalized.

  • @GMPNY yea its gotten alot worse i moved from there about 4 years ago in august and yea ppl have gotten shot and hurt and arrested its gotten so bad

  • @locamarii26 Its really sad. I grew up there in the 60's. Had the time of my life. Met a lot of great people and made life long friends along the way and everyone of them except for a few have moved away but they still talk about Schenectady and the great times they had there. Im still very much involved and Im there probably once a week but never at night. Thanks for commenting :-)

  • @GMPNY yea i havent been in years but in my senior year(next year) i plan on going and no problem =)

  • I want to has you, when was the last time you lived in schenectady?

  • I havent lived in Sch'tdy in many years but I have business there a lot with relatives who do still live there. You are right, I thought about it and yes, its a pretty boring place for a 16 year old kid for sure.

  • schenectady is just soo boring now,but SO much good memorys and im only 16 and saying that...

  • You gotta know where to go and where to hang out and it really depends on the peeps you hang out with. Ofcourse it helps if someone can drive :-)

  • Yes,I know how to have fun in schenectady, but everything get so old here. I want to explore!!!! Go to other places..

  • Let me suggest Boston or New Orleans? Two great places also another great spot is Myrtle Beach South Carolina. IF you ever get a chance to explore outside the country get to Amsterdam Holland, you wont be sorry if its adventure your want!

  • Lol,ya I hear a lot about HOLLAND.......

  • Holland is a blast. Its not that expensive to stay there either. They also have hostiles (spelling) to stay in but as a woman I would never stay there LOL But a guy it might not bother cause friends I went with stayed in one but I like my privacy and own bathroom etc. Food is cheap and good unless you go to a McDonalds or something then its expensive, Im serious LOL Eat their food, its good and cheaper. Something to do 24 hours a day there.

  • Do they allow it to freeze over during the winter for skating?

  • Not the pool part but the pond part yes and there are steep hills behind it that you ride down and right out on to the ice with your sled! Its simply wonderful!
