  • My name is Wayne Maki. My friends all call me Chico in honor of Wayne's older, (and less violent) brother.

  • ferguson broke hull's jaw for the 2nd time after it was broke by a mike pelyk elbow the 1st time!! check your facts stratovani!!!

  • wayne maki died from brain cancer, aint that some fuckin karma?

  • Maki was a psycho ,,in todays game he,d be banned

  • All I know is this. I saw that film and Ted Green had the most bewildered odd look on his face, like nothing I have ever seen! Scarey!

  • I remember very well when this happened and I have no recollection of this or any other preseason road game ever being televised back to Boston. I worked in local television in that era and I'm sure if there had been tape of this fight I would have seen it or at least heard about it. The claim that Channel 38 destroyed the tape is VERY dubious.

  • @bobc321 It would not be surprising though; at the time (and it didn't stop until the late 1970s), it was common for broadcasters to wipe programs by reusing the tapes.

  • Ted Green lived by the stick his whole career-He was a stick swinger!! He fought too but used the stick very very much, this can't be refuted too anyone who say him play regularly!! I'm not saying he deseved this from Wayne Maki but as Ted Lindsay always said and I quote "the stick is the great equalizer" "Lay the lumber on em!!!" Ask Ted Green how he liked John Ferguson!!! Fergy pummeled him!!!!

  • @kurtenbach25 Ferguson got beat by Eddie Westfall. Eddie busted his jaw, and knocked Fergy out for a month. The fight happened December 1st 1963, John's rookie year.

Ferguson did beat Green's ass in the playoffs around 67, but Fergy's legend is like a big fish story. Montreal fans don't think he ever lost. Bobby Hull kicked his ass, Reg Flemming beat him a couple of times, and Don Awrey had him jerseyed. He got his nose dinged up in a tilt with Simon Nolet also.

  • @BoSoxnation1972 when did ed westfall ever fight??? Simon nolet -puleez!!! What are you talking about??Bobby hull had his jaw broken by ferguson!!!! -i'm not a canadiens fan but you are reaching here-the awrey thing was nothing-i was there for that one!!! i live in boston!!!! Reg Fleming was a good fighter-the point i was making was about ted green-he was a stick swinger-PERIOD!!!! add bobby schmautz that little crumb to the list and cheap shot ken linseman as well-just call it like i see it!!

  • @kurtenbach25

Don't pay attention to anything that dope says. He sees everything through boston colored glasses which are black from the boston harbor pollution.

  • @kurtenbach25 - FYI Bobby Hull's jaw was not broken by John Ferguson. I don't remember how he broke it but I know it wasn't from fighting Fergie.

  • Only in hockey could you deliberately swing a heavy weapon (old NHL sticks were even heavier than todays jobbies) at someones head and essentially "get away with it". Ironically they both got suspensions, but 30 days for what resulted in a steel plate being installed in Green's head, is a joke. Any other organized sport in the world would issue life time suspensions AND the players would most likely serve REAL prison time, instead of an NHL influenced "legal charade".

  • look at the ref , skating away like hes scared to death, what an idiot, help ted green you retard!

  • The tape was never destroyed, it was used by Clarence Campbell and the NHL and the case was brought to court!!

  • WSBK are idiots -no footage should ever be destroyed...of course if Green had hit Maki over the head, it would have been ok. New Englanders epsecially Bostonians are idiots.

  • @bigtimcny If this was any other sport you would be sent to prison for doing this, especially in Europe.

  • @bigtimcny Even if Green had hit Maki, if it had been that gruesome, WSBK probably would have destroyed the tape anyway.

At the time, they did a weekly highlights show of Boston Bruins' games, and I recall watching the first show of the 1969/70 season (during which they had the highlights of pre-season games) and it was mentioned that the Green/Maki incident would not be seen since the station had destroyed the tape because the footage was too gruesome to watch.

  • This pre-season game was televised back to Boston, but reportedly, WSBK management (the station that aired the game) ordered the tape of the incident destroyed because it was too gruesome and didn't want to rebroadcast it.

It was, to anyone's knowledge, the only videotape or film footage of the incident.

  • @altfactor Thank you for your providing your knowledge on the incident. It is much appreciated.
