I worked in local television in that era and I'm sure if there had been tape of this fight I would have seen it or at least heard about it. The claim that Channel 38 destroyed the tape is VERY dubious.

Ferguson did beat Green's ass in the playoffs around 67, but Fergy's legend is like a big fish story. Montreal fans don't think he ever lost. Bobby Hull kicked his ass, Reg Flemming beat him a couple of times, and Don Awrey had him jerseyed. He got his nose dinged up in a tilt with Simon Nolet also.

Only in hockey could you deliberately swing a heavy weapon (old NHL sticks were even heavier than todays jobbies) at someones head and essentially "get away with it". Ironically they both got suspensions, but 30 days for what resulted in a steel plate being installed in Green's head, is a joke. Any other organized sport in the world would issue life time suspensions AND the players would most likely serve REAL prison time, instead of an NHL influenced "legal charade".
WSBK are idiots -no footage should ever be destroyed...of course if Green had hit Maki over the head, it would have been ok. New Englanders epsecially Bostonians are idiots.

At the time, they did a weekly highlights show of Boston Bruins' games, and I recall watching the first show of the 1969/70 season (during which they had the highlights of pre-season games) and it was mentioned that the Green/Maki incident would not be seen since the station had destroyed the tape because the footage was too gruesome to watch.
This pre-season game was televised back to Boston, but reportedly, WSBK management (the station that aired the game) ordered the tape of the incident destroyed because it was too gruesome and didn't want to rebroadcast it.
It was, to anyone's knowledge, the only videotape or film footage of the incident.
