@delta30024fly I have a few favorite bassists I draw my inspiration from. I enjoy Rock & old R&B bassists mostly. Jones, Entwistle, Geddy, Jamerson, Butler and so on. I Iike the way these bassists can take the bass out for walks so to speak.
CONT...The basslilnes really have there own voices and carry much of the weight of the songs they are in. I never use a pick, (not that there is anything wrong with one). They just don't fit into my style and you can achieve the same sounds with your nails and flamenco style finger picking. I've seen great bassists use picks on occasion though. Thanks for your comment and you should not abstain from your bass (its a healthy habbit and it has feeling too you know) HAHA. Later
how long have you been playing bass ? Think you are very good,I have just started and am finding it very difficult,do you have any tips on practice please ?
@ox092 ...it was the way he used his plucking hand and rotosound swing bass roundwounds...he hit the strings w/ the flat of his fingers strinking them like a piano string hammer. He also had an extremely low action w/ dead flat relief. It can be duplicated but you need a great neck and perfect fretwork.
Man!! your just Great!!!. i watch you video's all the time and lern something from them eact time i watch thanks. your timing is on the money. Just no mistakes perfect playing bro. I think you might even be John Entwistle Who faked his death. "That's why you don't show your face in your videos" it's ok John it' ok come clean break out with the alembic!
Entwistle was probably my first serious influence for the bass guitar. I'm always finding something new to practice from his arsenal. He had a very strong sense for improvisation. Learning Who songs is still a great challenge and pleasure. Thanks for the comments!
impressive playing. i love your style. we use to play Tricky Day back in 1983 while winning all the battle of the bands in high school . i had my fathers1961 fender precision bass then. i sold it for $450 to get another bass, SAD! i really regret that now, but i have many basses now including a 1962 usa ressue that sounds the same if you ask me,.but this song really reminds me of that 1961 that imy ole man gave me ) : great memories

Hey BMOTH,
I really enjoy the effort, you got this stuff down cold, do you have a favorite bass player, if so, why and do you ever use a pick.
I'm getting back into the bass after 40 years of abstainance...keep up the good work.

Do know what effects Entwistle used for that crunchy sound?
ox092 1 year ago
@ox092 I'm not sure what effects if any, but I know he liked fresh strings and very high treble and bass settings.
