the difference in sound is in your own head and in reality it sounds the same as it did before. Nice bass though, i've got one myself and wouldn't change anything on it except the strings which have to be flat wound, all these bass players with their round tinny strings trying to be guitar players, get some flats and keep it low
@TheResonators Allsound is in our heads anyway haha! If our ears were really good, we would hear things differently depending on the the weather, time of day, altitude, air pressure.. Reality is not available via video, internet or computer monitor/headphones. I've heard this model with flatwounds and they sounded great, but had less dynamic flexibility - rounds can be 'flattened' with EQ but flats.. it's like comparing a P-bass to a jazz bass. Fat flats do sound massive
oh man, I like how the new pick up sounds! I have the same bass and I wish I had that tone. Thanks for the demo!
By the way: you use roundwound, right? Did the strings "carve" the neck a bit or not much? I'm scared of that and I use flats but I guess I prefer the tone of rounds
DO NOT USE FLAT WOUND STRINGS!!! i had them on this bass for a long time and its absolutely trash. this bass is good for the money but leave the round wound on it.
The only time I wouldn't bother to change the bridge is on the upscale American Fender's or old vintage models with steel/brass. They sound & feel correct - as is.
Hi, you got a beautiful tone with the new pickup, I wouldn't expect that from such a cheap bass. Now I seriously consider buying this Squier.. Do you use roundwound strings in this video? Which exactly?
@jura26 ...£ 4 £ you cant beat squire or vintage......O.K. its never going to sound like something you've payed a grand for BUT i've got an old squire jazz (same as) and messed about with it-new pick-up's(raised/tilted),customized raised/chopped scratch plate-so the sound can get under it,and fender bridge cover......and its a beauty!!! if anything these guitars are better to mess around with. (rotosound or ernie ball regular/little bit slinky/hybrids).strings.
@bluecrow00 I use a Panasonic 3CCD, GS150 (mini DV tape). Great controls, colour & sound. Discontinued model. Was $850, but you can find them for 200 (buyer beware)
@bluecrow00 thnx for the info dude an by the way, very cool groove, I'm a guitar player myself but I've been messin around wth some basses and I think on geting one, nothing fancie think my choise is beetwen the freted model of this (not suer yet if the 60's or 70´s) or a used japan made, would you recomend a jaguar over a jazz bass?
Hi, i want to put a badass II bridge on my squier vintage jazz bass, do i have to drill new holes or does it fit directly at the same holes of the standard bridge? I also like to know if the seymore duncam pickup fits the bridge pickup slot on the bass, i heard the bridge pickups on the fender basses are a little bit widther! Thanx
@vibes2008 Read the labels! The bridges are supposed to fit the same holes but not all brands/basses are standardized. Yes, the bridge PU is wider & the height adjustment tabs are spaced a little further apart. Some replacement PUs don't have the original matching dimensions or screw tabs. Get ALL that info before you buy. I'm about to try a new KSM bridge on this bass that looks & promises to be better than the Badass! Subscribe & see it when i post it. It is really different
@vibes2008 Sorry if that wasn't clear, I meant read the lables on the packaging - check the dimensions before-hand. Some companies make the pickups the same size, but Fender/Squier are made wider for the bridge position PU (except for the 5-string basses which have the same larger size for both PU ). The Badass II is a direct replacement (not the Badass I)
much like eddie van halen in the beginning alot of people don't have money so they by a cheap guitar and frankenstein it for under 300 bucks this is a kick ass bass
Instead of buying squiers and putting money into them just buy a real fender and mod that up. Im not saying that squiers are bad but if your gonna take pride and spend money on aftermarket parts you should start with a fender.
@stefanrocca Thamks for comment. Not much diff betwn a top Squier & Fender Standard or MIM. The Vintage Modified & Vibe series have been selling-out faster than 'Fenders' bcuz they're well made, sound good, value4dollar. I don't expect to do any upgrade at all on a $800-2500 Fender. A Squier body giving good sound@$300, +$250 in parts still brings u in under the wire. I admit no Squier has impressed me more than an Ash Custom shop or Victor Bailey Jazz. They simply cost $1000 more.
@stefanrocca - I disagree completely. I have two Gibson guitars (a mid 70s LP and a late 90s ES-335) and an American made Strat. I wouldn't change so much as a pick guard screw and either of them for fear of lowering their resale value. On the other hand, I've replaced almost everything replaceable on my Agile AS-820 Wide-Neck. As a result it's actually my favorite guitar to play. So, my advice is that if you're going to mod, buy a cheap serviceable instrument and go nuts on it.
Thanks - i forgot to mention that. I insulated the battery & squeezed it between the vol & tone pot. The smaller pot for the active vol created a little more space but the 9V + wires raise the plate by .5 millimeter. It won't need to be changed more than 1 or 2 times a year & i didn't want to do any router cuts, so....
tremendous difference in tonal quality. Great mod.

would adding an active EQ, help the out put of the neck pick up keep up with the out put of the bridge.
CmajAmin88 2 years ago
No, they would both get louder. It can be evened out by adjusting the pickup height, but that affects the attack. It's not really a problem.
