  • Willie Nelson? I've never even heard Willie sing this song . It was written and originally performed by Randy Newman , who was born here and learned about the '27 flood listening to stories from his older relatives.

  • Yep, Randy Newman is the composer. It's been covered a lot and for good reason, particularly since the New Orleans floods of several years ago.

I'm always amazed that people assume that the first person THEY hear sing a given song must be the composer. I know a lot of folks convinced that Joni Mitchell was covering Bette Midler or vice versa with "Twisted." In fact, both were covering the great Annie Ross (of Lambert, Hendrix, & Ross fame) and Wardell Grey.

  • Not too bad. Go, Guy. The audio could be much better though.

  • the song is actually called Louisiana 1927 and its by Randy Newman off of the album "Good Old Boys" Thanks for the post, good cover.

  • This is great. I could listen to Justin sing from a phone book.

  • Thanks for posting, though the original artist is Randy Newman.
