I was at this event in Kansas City, it was a stunning moment, very sad time,I could not enjoy the rest, I could not stay for the rest of the event, myself and many fans left, At 8:20 when the fans started cheering as they wheeled Owen out with a K.C. Mo. cop on top of him still doing CPR.

@MasterOfTimeForever There is a 7 second delay (possibly longer for WWE PPVs) for all live events broadcast here in the US. They were playing the video package for the TV audience while Owen was set to make his entrance at the Kempler Arena. They were able to cut to JR as soon as the package ended.

Happened to be 1999, my bro yelled for me to come watch as this was announced. I kept thinking, even after it all, that it was still somehow just another scripted wrestling plot line... now looking back though, seeing JR try to express how real it was, while a lot of people, like me, still thought it was just fake and scripted, had to be tough on JR trying to get that out

And the appearance of Jerry Lawler when he returned to the commentator's table says it all. Owen's death was so senseless and as far as I'm concerned it should've sent Vince McMahon and probably others to prison for manslaughter.

I was at this event in Kansas City, it was a stunning moment, very sad time,I could not enjoy the rest, I could not stay for the rest of the event, myself and many fans left, At 8:20 when the fans started cheering as they wheeled Owen out with a K.C. Mo. cop on top of him still doing CPR.

This was the first WWF PPV I ever got my parents to buy for me....
I remember running in the other room and telling them what had happened. My father assured me it was all a wrestling stunt and chastised me since I was too old to fall for something like that.
It wasn't until the news that night that anyone believed me.

The wire they were using to lower him was already at the stadium rather than having their team add his wire. The wire was only intended on raising tools to the rafters, not lowering people, and the wire snapped. That is the official story.
