I'm Italian and I love Canadian bands like D.O.A.,Propagandhi,Fucked Up,Carrer Suicide,The Endless Blockade,Brutal Knights etc,but the Flatliners are fags...C'mon!
And technicly speaking wouldn't staying ska punk be selling out because they don't really like it anymore and all it would do is keep everyone else happy
It kinda makes me depressed that people think they changed their sound to appeal to a large audience just doesn't make sense. They wrote those ska songs when they were 14 years old its been almost 10 years can you imagine playing the same songs for 10 years and not ever branching into any other style you'd get bored really fast. Just look at some of their interveiws and they tell you straight out why they drifted from the ska sound, they havn't forgot it all together.
@theirdecllineisours exactly, music not supposed to be a stagnant, it's everchanging... and it's not like these guys sound bad... and who knows maybe there next album it will be a ska one... people stop bitchin.
I miss there destroy to create sound..i actually played a show with them with my band back in the day when freds got slacks was making a big hit in the underground...look were threy r now..i give em props..but they sold out man..and not for the better..seems like there worse off then before...too bad..
@CompleteCntrl14 Well , when i say "sell out" not "seel out" hahaI guess im more referring to there sound, but then again bands change there sound. Sometimes to further there career , sometimes because there just growing as musicians, which is fine. Although the way it feels for me with the flatliners is they changed there sound drastically to appeal to a bigger audience. I could be wrong, but it just feels that way.
@MrCanav haha shit my bad with the typo. But if you listen through the albums chronologically you can tell that the sound is slowly drifting away from the ska-punk sound into more of a straight forward sound. I guess I just like to give most bands the benefit of the doubt. And I'm sure if they really wanted to blast into the mainstream they could do so in a more efficient way than their latest album
@greedyhips22 Eulogy is not on this album. It's on the album before it. But Cavalcade and The Great Awake are both amazing albums. (Eulogy is on The Great Awake, in case that wasn't clear)
I liked some of their old slower stuff. Mastering the world's smallest violin was great. This is just boring and lame. The lyrics seem like they were written by a 14 year old.
@irreverent79 @_@ Their older stuff was written by 14 year olds, yet you think their newer stuff is written by 14 year olds. Are you mentally retarded?
@TheFavoriteShot Asks the guy who apparently can't correctly comprehend an extremely basic sentence. I never said I think their newer stuff was written by 14 year olds. I said the lyrics *seem like* they were written by a 14 year old.
I would never claim that no 14 year olds can write profound poetry or lyrics but I would claim that if they did, it wouldn't seem like it was written by a 14 year old.
More importantly, this song seems to be written *for* 14 year old girls.
The whole god damn album is full of meaning, every song is a master class in song writing and it chronicles a band going from very good to fucking great. Oh boo hoo its not punk enough? It proves they don't need to play at crazy bpm and shout their tits off to create something powerful.
What I love most about this album is it seems to show The Flatliners have grown up musically in the same way I have over the last 3 or 4 years
and yeah, this song isn't that punk, but they brought it for every song on cavalcade save for this one, and frankly i respect the fact that they can slow it down a little for a song and not lose a shred of meaning.
I love this band and it's amazing how they are only but a few years older then me and already put out and accomplished so much before even their mid-20s. Though I fell in love with them when they 1st put out Destroy To Create, I love the fact that with each album they reinvent themselves and not just put out the same album with a different name like so many other bands. One of the best bands live and real down to earth nice guys when you talk to them.
for a band that has SUCH a raw and energetic sound, they are surprisingly very stable on stage. They don't like moving a lot and the drummer just looks unenthusiastic as hell. Love em still
@GenDoomVisser Sure Monumental is more mainstream friendly than most of their song but the album as a whole is still very raw and punk. It's less ska but still punk.

@MrCanav you use "seel out" kind of loosely. They still make great music, they're on fat wreck, not really a "major" label.
