Just beautifull. I finished reading a book ( The Girl With The Pearl Earing *) a ficcionalized romance story of his life and the alleged enfatuation between the great painter and his teenage servant Geist , the model.

Very intersting book. * there is a movie (2003) made on the subject. which I have not seen.

@VIRIATO1942 Tracy Chevalier's book on Vermeer's household and Giest was wonderful and if you have'nt seen the movie version it's worth the time and money. I especially like the look of the film--shot as if by Vermeer himself. Does'nt Dutch middle class life of that age look warm,comfortable,and appealing? No wonder the Dutch had such difficulty getting colonist for the new world. Who would leave this for the uncertainty of a frontier existence?

What a shame the music is so out of place. Bach is all about religion and such, Vermeer isn't, it's also from a different era in time.

@braak I agree that the music is from the wrong time - Bach was born 10 years after Vermeer died. Vermeer, if he heard any music, would've heard late Renaissance and Early Baroque; Lully, Monteverdi, Sweelinck, Charpentier, ua. Respectfully, I disagree that Bach's music is "all about religion and such." He wrote tons and tons of non-secular music. I think like you - if you're going to put together a slide-show on an artist, get the right music. Don't put Mahler and Chopin together.

So many people only remind Rembrands his work, and ofcourse Rembrand was great but Johannes Vermeer and Frans Hals, Rubens were at least just as good as Rembrand. But they always somehow seems to stand in the shadow of Rembrand.

Can anyone explain to me why in most of his paintings, the light usually seems to strike from the left and quite often from a window? Did he use camera obscura? Because that would explain a lot.. still not sure

It's Johann Sebastian Bach's 5th Brandenburg Concerto, the 3rd and final movmement. The whole 6 Brandenburg Concertos are a greatly varied and intimate set, I'd recommend them for ANYONE!!

Although many people are not aware of his earliest paintings.

There are a few painitings that I did not include that have been disputed as to whether they were in fact painted by him.

@youlousycreatures Yes, it seems like it was not done by him.but maybe from his earlier style? I am not sure about that. By the way, I like the paintings of Vermeer since I first looked at it in books since I was a kid. The first one that I liked was 'The Girl In a Red Hat" and the "MIlkmaid"

@youlousycreatures Not a lot. Only one, the painting shown before "The Girl with a red hat" and after "The girl with a pearl earring" is not fully accepted as Vermeer's work. The rest is ok.
