They should not be just calling the country. Miss ___ to address the contestant emphasizes the contestant rather than the country. It's not that the countries are competing here but their representative. I prefer the way they do it in the 80s.

They do it because not all contestants are OFFICIAL WINNERS from their countries...many countries still send runner ups or hand picked contestants. So it's technically wrong to call them MISS ____. Only the winner from her nation can be called MISS _____. For example, Miss USA, Miss Venezuela etc...

i find the miss universe pagent crownings very weird over the past couple of years. For example, in 2004, australia won, and usa (north american country was first runner-up) then in 2005, canada won (north america), and puerto-rico first runner-up, then in 2006 puerto-rico won, and japan first runner-up, then japan won in 2007, and brazil, and south american country was second runner-up, then in 2008, a south-american country won, and a runner up, so the next winner might be a south american

I agree! Up until now, all farewell walks (Miss Universe, Miss USA etc..) were all done in evening gowns and crowns. I think you will see a lot of non-traditional clothes for farewell walks in the future now because of the trend Riyo Mori has set. It's also worth mentioning that in MU 2007 competition, Riyo Mori was also the first contestant to wear an evening gown with long sleeves, did anyone notices it? This girl is a trend setter, not a cookie-cutter MU.
