it just the drums itself? I bought a ddrum d120b and if I should get new toms I know the guy in here said you should probaly change the bottom and the top would you suggest that I change the bottom ones to? My high tom sounds pretty good but my low tom and floor tom especially have tons of sound that sounds terrible after I hit it (sorry I forgot what that's called) should I also get some moon gel stickers to put on the heads?
Thanks! and sorry it took to comments to put this!
So I'm kinda new to tuning drums and knowing about drum heads. I've been playing snare for my school band for about 3 or 4 years and I'm pretty good but my band teacher never really taught me anything about tuning drum heads or when I should change them. So I finally talked my mom and dad into letting me get a drum set and I've been wondering, the drum heads that came with my set i don't think sound to good I mean ik the basic about tuning but is it the drum heads thats making it sound bad or is
When you are endorsed by Evans, Remo, or Aquarian. Money is never a factor. Speaking of money, that was the attractive part of Remo's. Affordable! Heck, Aquarians are the priciest ones. They cost more than Evans.
@gavbag1234 of course its business, its like telling some one to do make another shampoo wash just after you rinse your head, just to make sure. how about making sure you do it the first time?
"it's a small price to pay for great tone"... these guys are hired shmucks for Evans. sorry but it's pretty presumptuous to sit there and rap with your co-worker about 'hey, everyone should buy our stuff More Often because you want em to look nice too, right!' Yeah, changing out your tops & bottoms (heads) every couple of month= poor house, jack!
I change em when they need em and before big recording sessions. if it ain't broke don't fix it!... (and I get many comps on my sound too!) j-holes.
i think hes right but you dont need to change your bottom heads tht much i still have the same ones and my drum kit sounds awesome and i change my top heads about every month 2 months maybe 3 lol
HURRY! everyone run away!! he is the head change police.this guy uses the worst comparison examples i have heard yet.OH the humanity!! were all going to EVANS HELL for not changing the used drum heads!! AHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhh!
,I despise salespeople that try to convince naive newbies, that want to do it just right. Of course "you need to buy new heads " Always,oh it just so happens the ones I sell are the absolute best. Replace the bottom ones cause it's 'sad' how
I really wish a drumhead company could invent heads that would last at least a year no matter how many times, or how hard you play it. Cause changing them things every other month is too damn expensive.
does it sound rediculous to use two different brands of drumheads all in 1 drumset? cause i use remos for my 12' and 13' toms and Evans for my 16' floortoms do get a deeper sound than the remos it might sound stupid but i dont think it is.
@cristian2001 If you think your hardhitting is affecting the quality of your set's sound, or even if you are going through heads too quickly, I reccomend picking up a nice, light pair of sticks - 7A Ludwigs work well.
hey man thanks for the advice i'll try some light sticks nezt time i go to my local store, i used to use zildjian's XL rock dip series sticks and since i broke them i've been using pro mak's 2B i like heavy sticks cuz' i hit harder with them and like them to be long too cuz' i have like a better grip and control with my fingers since the sticks are longer
My GOD ! Who's that guy ??? His explanations are just RIDICULOUS !!! When should I cut my hair then ? Maybe should I use a comb ? Or should I just wash it ? LOL
Check out Bob Gatzen 's videos ! He explains the way drumheads resonate: If they don't resonate, change them. Simple. God.
i use coated emperors on the batter head, and the res. head a coated ambasidor. it sounds silly, but benny grebb said to at one of his clinics, so i aint arguing, and it sounds really good.

there are special heads for the bottom snare head. but you can use whatever you want really. I would suggest a single ply head, they are by far the most popular choice. The Remo 'Ambassador' or the Evans 'G1'
I still have stock heads. They sound amazing.

this is like asking a car salesman if you need a new car
if you learn how to tune and play your drums properly - you'd be amazed, within reason, how long heads will last and sound good

Of course he says that you have to change your drumheads often.
He works for a drumhead company (hehe!!!), so he earns his living from selling them.

@outlaw6066 put some remo emperor x on the snare and some controlled sound's on the toms that'll last for quite abit longer than most drums heads

Do you have an endorsement? If not, use the heads that work best for you.
I normally use Remo but on my snare I use an Aquarian texture coated batterhead.
