  • he looks like conan o' brian hehe.

  • lol xD

  • does anyone else notice the resemblance to conan obrien? i think its the giant hair....

  • great song. practically an exact word for word about my first love and how we had to part ways during college. but i know i'll see her again someday.

  • Absolutely amazing tune !! I played this as a teen in the early 90s.

    Inspirational !!

    Sam xx

  • I think he lives in Tennessee now married a southern woman. Great 80's song!

  • I have seen Steve solo, and with Blind Faith. If you EVER get the chance to see him live, don't miss it. He is amazing.

  • love it, my dad use to sing the chorus to me when i was little cause my name is valerie!

  • that really is kinda sweet ;-) !!

  • favorite song of all time...

  • Call on meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I'm the same boy I used to be!

  • So deliciously 80s.

  • valerieeee call on me, cal on me valerie!

    not so difficult! :D

  • I'm not seeing the Conan look, though I love Steve Winwood and Conan both. This is seriously one of my favorite songs of the 1980's.

  • One of my all time 80's favs

  • I have this song, Valerie by Steve Winwood, and the remix, Call on Me by Eric Prydz on my iPod and I listen to them both frequently. So joe, I'm not confused. I know what I'm talkin' about.

  • Legend absolute class .. Stevie..peace x

  • he stick a finger in a wall socket? What's up with the hair?

  • Steve you are the man cant wait to see u this summer....... hope u still look like Conan O'Brian

  • Oh 1982, how I miss you.

  • This is awesome. I just put it on my iPod. I always liked the Eric Prydz "Call on Me" but I knew that he got the idea from somewhere. Glad I found it . Absolutely terrific, both of them.

  • Perhaps remixers seem to get confused with the song lyrics: It's not "Call on Me", it's "Valerie"- it sounded the same!

  • the lyrics go "Valerie, Call On Me"

    u idiot

  • Awesome.Totally awsome.

  • why couldn't the 80's lasted forever? :(

  • I loved this song at the time, and I love it just as much today. Sad to say, I think we may never hear the like again.

  • It's sad, eh?

  • I love Stevie .. Great vid

  • its difficult to put into words how good this track is. winwood is a legend. notice how steve nods his head forward after "come and see meeeeeeeeee, (nod) im the same boy i used to be"

  • Excelente músico. Brillante. Esta canción tiene mucha fuerza. Hermosa.

  • Listen up guys, Stevie Winwood is a legend .That's worked with Hendrix and Clapton and he's stolen nobodies songs Quite the opposite infact

  • I gotta say, it's funny when I was a teen all the cool musicians and singers were older dudes. Now, everyone thinks that all these new assholes are as good, or better than the older guys were.

  • Did this Conan write material like this. Can he play 2/3 instruments. I think not .Check out The River . Later s howed performance with Jools Holland .The best voice of the 60's.

  • Yea,Man I,

Lived W/VALERIE for a few.. DONT KNOW where she goes .. luv ya

  • I didn't know Conan O'Brien was a pop singer.

  • Shut up.

  • was SW a song writer for the Chicago band?

  • grazie x farmi provare queste emozioni..per questa canzone e tutte quelle defli anni 80...ora è notte e io sto ricordando..e sono in 1 mondo tutto mio ...diverso..passato..ma che vivra' sempre dentro di me..

  • i know this guy had his song out first but was just pointing out the similarities.... i realize how stupid that looked sorry guys ive been hitting the pipe a little to much!!!!lol

  • He does look a little like conan.. is it just me or does the chorus of this song sound extremely similar to eric prydz- call on me

  • ccantu05 - are you kidding me? tell me you are... sit down and have a little think about it lol...

  • um yea ccantu05...steve winwood traveled to the future to steal eric prydz chorus then went back to the 80s and made a whole song out of it....................

  • LOL hahahah you never know... actually while steve is there get him to get me some shares in Microsoft...

  • LOL hahahah you never know... actually while steve is there get him to get me some shares in Microsoft...

  • lol, I was thinkin' the same thing, Conan O'Brian meets Andy Gibb and the Low Spark of Highed Boys.....Claro que si!

  • Does he look like Conan O'brien or is it just me?

    Classic song though. :)

  • When "Valerie" and "Higher Love" came out on MTV they would play them all day....Great song and memories

  • "valerie" just shades "higher love" in my opinion. vinyl & synthesisers maximum output!

  • great tune, thanks for posting

  • Apparently Steve re-recorded the sample for Eric Prydz's dance track. Love his voice as much as ever!

  • lol, "sounds a bit like eric prydz..."

    This song is fucking epic!!!!1

  • Your right - that song is epic. One of the greatest moments in music history. It's A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!! !!!

  • when i was growing up my mom played this song and i felt like a princess!! yes his other songs are great too !

  • eric prydz sampled this record for "call on me". the original is a country mile better than prydzs effort. 80s music to the core, synthiser city.1

  • Love Steve!! His voice is so smooth and effortless :)

  • Thee Stevie Winwood was first.......Peace x x

  • peace

  • it sounds a bit like call on me by eric prydz ...

    good song !

  • lol, i wonder which came first...

  • sounds "a bit" like Eric Prydz?

Eric Prydz sampled Steve Winwood's voice, so it should sound a lot like it!

  • lol.

    *ignoramus*

  • I bought this as a 45! (LOL)

  • same here lol

i loved at time, still do. awesome!

  • ahhhhhhhhhh......bring back the vinyl!

  • Valeriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie, caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall on meeeeeeeeee Valeriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie,

    fantastic love song.

  • No only can Conan O'Brien jam on the guitar but he can rock a synthesizer. I had no idea he sang this song, sweet!

  • haha

  • I saw Steve at MSG on 2/28, along with Clapton, and they were AMAZING. Winwood's touring with Tom Petty this summer.

  • Google Steve Winwood and see on wikipedia. You will see the lengthy and amazing career Steve Winwood had. He was extremely successful before these huge 80's hits. These just took him to the national level and known to all generations. He is actually playing shows with Eric Clapton. They sold out Madison Square Garden a few nights. Steve Winwood is a true legend of music. He continues to write , tour , produce and influence plenty of musicians out there.

  • i find this version better than eric prydz, cause first avall, the original is always better. like music now-a-days, all the songs you hear are copied from the 80's. i was born in 1995, but im a 80's fanatic

    overall, its a great song(Y)

  • Amazingly fantastically awesome.

  • yeah stevie was class the 80s music was class , you cant get tired of listening to it

  • Not too keen on Winwood's stuff after 'Traffic', but this song is sublime. Absolute best of his solo stuff.

  • This song rocks!!!!! Keep playing it over and over and over, never tire of it.

  • it's perfect. you can listen to it every time !

  • i love this song...da 80's rule!!!

  • In my opinion, Steve's is better by far!.

But anyway, eric prydz only overlays a few parts from the original.

  • Even though I was born in the lat 90s, I'm adicteed to 80s music like this! THANKS!!

  • Agreed. ;)

  • that keyboard looks awesome, anyone know what kind it is?

  • One fan stated "Steve actually played a Moog Multimoog for the solo with it's pressure-sensitive keyboard & ribbon controller. Same thing for the lead synthesizer parts in "While You See A Chance".

  • This is brilliant. Its given me goose bumps.I've forgotten how much I loved his music back then.Thx 4 posting this!

  • I prefer this version. Lotta the music we have recently involves sex. But the 80s and early 90s music? Classics!

  • im not a huge 80's fan but i have to say steve winwood still keeps his talent in any decade! traffic & blind faith are still my preference tho..

  • i really wish ppl appreciated him more, he's such a fantastic singer and yet he's underrated and yet we get things like the Spice girls and shit like them that get so much attention i don't get it.

  • AMEN!

  • Beautiful song. The 80's style keyboards are missed these days.

  • Everything about 80's music is sorely missed and needed these days...Cheers!

  • fantastic tune

  • One of Steve Winwoods best! Former member of great 70's bands Traffic and Spencer Davis Group, he has a lot of history and great musical talent that launched him into 80's music and videos.... Great Song

  • Has this just been released? hope it does well in Pick of the Pops

  • It was released 21 years ago.

  • ussodyssey - Surely this is a cover of Eric Prydz's original?

  • dowling1981 - This was the Original Song. You can hear what Eric Prydz cut from Valerie and just looped it, with extra techno for his music/video.

  • Newfiek - yes but Steve Winwood got the song taken from that loop?

  • Short history... Winwood wrote and released this song off his 1982 album "Talking Back To The Night" which didn't do too well on the charts. It was later remixed and re-release off his 1987 compilation album "Chronicles" which fared better reaching the top ten. Prydz did the dance cover (with Winwood's approval) in 2004. The song you hear in this video uses the 1987 remix version. There are others on youtube that has the same video, but the original 1982 track is used instead.

  • Is this the only video for this song? i remember a slightly different one wot had like effects, a blond girl lying on the ground and stuff in it

  • Yes, that video was specifically shot for the 1987 re-release. There's one on YT you probably can find.. unless Viacom already complained and had it deleted over copyright issues. IMHO,judging by looks, i think this video was shot for the original 1982 release.

  • Cheers. Do you have a PhD in steve Winwood-related matters? :)

  • Not really. Just someone who really appreciates his talents and music.;)

  • usso - What happened to him in the end?

  • If you mean if he's still active. Yes..he just finished a set of sold out concerts with Eric Clapton at MSG in NYC. He also has a new album coming out soon. Check his website for more info.

  • he is opening for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers in Chicago later in the year. Have tix and really do not know which one will be better. I have seen both on several occasions and it is all great music

  • dowling1981 - I did some more reading on the Music that Eric Prydz used. Eric Prydz did asked for permission to use the loop from Steve Winwood. Steve Winwood not only gave permission, but, also sang the parts that were to be looped.

  • Newfiek - Thanks for researching that. They left them. Has Eric Prydz done any other musical numbers since then?

  • I love this 80s music and I'm a senior in high school!!! what can I say my momma raised me on 80s music!!! AWESOME SONG!!! whatever happen to good music like this?

  • Brilliant song. I reckon it is one of the best early dance anthems.

  • What with this and Mark Ronson how does such a s*** girls name get 2 songs named after it?

  • I think someone has been dumped by a 'Valerie' recently. hahahahaha

  • fab takes me back

  • He's like a cross between Rick Astley and Conan o'Brien.

  • LOL, except Rick Astley would sing it in a much lower voice lol. I can actually see Rick pullin this song off pretty well actually lol

  • Nope.

  • He and Huey Lewis sound just the same.

  • not even?

  • No they don't. Steve Winwood and Huey Lewis sound completley different

  • I thought this was Huey Lewis when I first Heard this song.

  • To the person who reckons you had to be a teenager in the 1980's to experience it : Take your fucking head out of your arse, pal. You don't need to have been their in the 80's to appreciate great fuckin' music!!!

  • Steve Winwood opens for Tom Petty in August. That is going to be such a great show and I got tickets.

  • And Winwood Performs with Eric Clapton this week at MSG.

  • It is a typical 80's clip!!! simply but very good though.

  • the 80's was like the 60's..you had to be a teenager and experience it..thank god i did....the 80's music will live forever..

  • Great song; 80s eletropop at its best

  • eric prydz had winwood re-record the vocals, therefore its not sampled from this.

  • Have anyone heard the techno of this song it's so kew it keeps repeating the Valarie Call on me calling it's great I didn't know this song til today :D instant like :D

  • i think you're saing about "erik prydz - call on me"

  • yahhhhhh :D When I heard this today it sound just like that song I didn't know there names of the techno thx

  • Love the song, but Winwood is so expressionless on the video.

  • corniest music video ever...why is there wind blowing in his hair the whole time!?!?

  • Maybe someone farted.

  • why not?

  • You just can't separate the 80's and wind blowing in hair.

  • because the lyric says "the wind is blowing in her arms" whatever that means, it must happen continually with her

  • he means that instead of her arms holding him, they're just holding the wind... i.e. she's cold and lonely.

  • I think Valerie was the name of Winwood's first wife.

  • He's touring with Tom Petty. Can't wait to see them.

  • Wow ...one of my all time favaorites!!! thanks

  • My mother thinks she remembers him from her youth, when he played in a lockup garage in Brum.

  • pure class

  • Man, awesome 80's music like this is urivaled

  • hey ophand11 you are full of shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Anyone know he wrote it about Eddie VanHalen's ex?

  • He looks like Conan O'Brien about as much as he looks like James Woods which isn't much.

  • he looks like both mixed together

  • Freaking love Winwood. This is one of his best songs. Also, he really does look like Conan O'Brien here.

  • hahahahahahaha

  • Call on him already will you!

  • My favorite song from him.Brings back such good memories of when I was a kid.

  • holy shit, i didn't know conan o'brian could sing like this

  • haha

  • its not conan LOL! Looks like him a tiny bit though.

  • I like both the Eric Prydz version and this one. But I knew I had heard this song as a child but Call On Me is all I could remember and there could be no way it was a new song as Eric's. Hahahaha... by the way is it poor lip syncing or just the video over the internet? Good classic song. Did Eric take the exact sung words for his song though?

  • i think it is couse its old i think they use to record the song then record the video and put it on btw im only 13 so i dont no

  • Really love that song...

I don't like what Eric Prydz made out of it

  • stevie boy rocks the muh fuckin house ya heard

  • Thats all very well, but he didnt write it, he didnt perform it and he didnt make it famous, Steve Winwood is a legend.. please dont try to compare

  • haha wow some one doesn't know good music.. yah I know he didn't write it. I'm not dumb. But Kenya West didn't write Stronger it was written by Daft Punk and look at how famous and great that song is. Actually both versions are great. and I know Steve Winwood is a legend, but Eric Pyrdz's is a really good version that actually doesn't put me to sleep.

  • Firstly its Kanye West, and secondly if you dont write a song then you have little claim to fame other than you can sing well and mix a bit, it's one thing to sing a song and a whole different talent to write and perform one and make it famous

  • haha it's called a typpoo smart one... and yah I know but when an artist makes a new version of a song it actually brings more buisness to the origanal artist... so in the end they both win..

  • The Winwood version is far better!!!

  • he so fit

  • he sort of looks like conan o'brain

  • I've always thought so too!

  • Boy, this one takes me back to my freshman year of high school. Can't believe its been 20 years now! This is still a great song.

  • Under-stated brilliance. GREAT vid, thx for posting.

  • Great ...

  • 80s classic
