Do you let him snap that steel cage all the time, as he retrieves the goldfish?? That might sprain his jaw muscles, since they always do power bites. I have a common snapping turtle my self, but i don't let him bite anything solid, like a rock, or peas of metal. I advise you to change the steel top cage, so it would be safe for you, and the turtle.
