  • why didnt it move

  • @242DEE It did

  • can someone buy me this beautiful piece of engineering for christmas - promise ill only fire it up ... REGULARLY .....ps it sounds like an olympus

  • R.I.P. headphone users

  • What kind of RPM is that? nvm annotations anwered

  • Any chance I could use this lovely jet engine as an alarm clock in my bedroom..as nothing else seems to work when it comes to 'trying' to wake me up in the afternoon/evening...This I think may well be just the ticket !!??!! Peace Rxx

  • gosh, I would love to see that in person.

  • holy shit thats kool

  • That noise sounds are better than dang Justin Bieber's Songs.

  • Very cool.

  • Looks like a J79

  • @RedArrow73 A close relative. Runs on the ground, and has all the identical parts in the core. Aircraft externals are missing.

  • Batman would be proud.

  • that was very informative.

i liked how your annotations came onto the screen just as i was wondering what was happening.

  • @papu846 The J75s I run every day overspeed at 9350 N2.

  • wasnt this turbine used for the speed car ''north american eagle''?

  • @Blueberry954 That was another engine we built and tested right here in the same test cell

  • That car in the field started out much closer to the building.

  • Using aTurbinet start Tubine:)

  • GE J-79?

  • @121330yaya a ground-running relative...

  • how many decibels?

  • @GMSamuelRhine I've asked a professional sound company in town about mics or meters to measure it, and they just shoo me out the door.

    A lot.

    Too many.

And then you need to see the afterburner videos...

  • @AgentJayZ

You need to get a Term Lab SPL Meter. Same meter Nasa uses to measure the the sound-pressure of shuttle launches. Single sensor meter can be had for about $650..... Hooks right up to your laptop via USB.

    termlab.com

  • @annarbor84 you mean nasa USED to use :(

  • @garrittpwl

Yeah the now underfunded, defunct Nasa,,,,,

  • I get emotional from gasturbines

  • I think I just woke up my neighbors.

  • awesome

  • I have worked on the G.E. TM2500 engines,,I think the 2500 and the LM6000 are the the same engine,,The TM's are mobile units ,,GE rents them out at about $100,000.00 a month,,great video,,if you need any help let me know,,,farlo359@hotmail.com

  • is that big yellow box a huffer?

  • @rigby0105 yes it is. Retired from Edwards Air Force Base.

  • @AgentJayZ thought so, i just couldnt rmemeber if that was the right word.

  • I remember testing these in Aircraft school!

  • If thats in your backyard, I love you! :)

  • @jsmythib It's in the backyard of where we all wok for a living... :)

  • I was more excited about the flames from the start cart.

  • @asshatnowhere159 This engine was near full power at 7000 rpm. In service it would run up to 7200. This is an industrial version of the J79, which was used in the F4 Phantom II. In military use it would be used up to 7450 rpm.

  • What are these engines used on?

  • @brostraid This one is used to power one of the many compressors that keep natural gas flowing down a pipeline from here (Northern Canada) to the United States of America. Billions of cubic feet of it per year... actually, it might be trillions.

  • @AgentJayZ Great video

I noticed your comment about jet used as compressor for natural gas.

As the engine uses oxygen air intake & mixed with fuel to combust I cant see how it could be used as a pump/compressor for natural gas.

Is the jet thrust used to propel a 2nd set of seperate turbine blades similar to turbocharger so the jet engine isnt in direct contact with the gas supply ?

I have searched google for an answer but I either get oil pumps or gas company webpages

  • @Dookiedolf The engine seen in this video is used to produce a large amount of high velocity gas. Technically, it is not an engine, but a gas generator.

This high velocity stream of gas contains a lot of energy, and is used to turn a power turbine, connected by a short duct to the gas generator.

The power turbine is connected via a shaft to a centrifugal compressor which is inside the pipeline and moves the gas through it.

The power turbine is a separate piece of equipment.

  • @AgentJayZ Thank you for taking the time to reply & explaining :)

  • @AgentJayZ

Canadians have a lot of gas!

  • I used this to wake my roommate up after his one night standee smashed his car window... Figured I'd add some salt to the wound cause they keep me up all night.

  • @Bruinsrule100 That's pretty good. Glad I could help!

  • Impressionante. Obrigado por compartilhar tantas informações q passariam despercebidas e são muito interessantes sobre o funcionamento da turbina.

Que tipo de veículo usa esse motor?

  • whats with the long description? i dont need to know that. what i need to know is how i install it on my car

  • @Averywashere It's long in case anybody is interested in knowing what they are seeing. Most people have limited experience in ground testing large turbine engines, so I wanted to share the fun.

  • @Averywashere looooooooooooooooooooooool epic comment... if you ever need a spinner rim for your steering wheel give me a call

  • The people standing next to a fully-powered turbofan, without protection, are what we call rednecks ladies and gentlemen.

  • @tonchibear The people who call industrial gas generators turbofans are what we call ignorant, people...

Ignorant of the fact that there is no danger at idle; ignorant of the type of machine they are looking at; and ignorant of the origins of the word "redneck".

  • @AgentJayZ hahahahahaha... PWNED! XD

  • @AgentJayZ 2sha

  • @tonchibear

then i liked to be a redneck

  • @tonchibear Would you like a cup of shame with that dumbfounded look?

  • @tonchibear no, the people who make sure you get home for the holidays while they're fixing airplane engines.

  • sounds like EasyEngine from garry's mod addon(probably who made the addon took those sounds)

  • is that yellow"turbine starter" also a small turbine? :D Because of the flames coming out... And whats that thing exactly called? :D

  • @cocatoo555 Yes it's an ex-USAF ground start cart, model MA-1A. It contains a Garrett GTC85 turbine power unit.

  • OMG that vid is everywhere!! 0_0

  • @PROFX2009 Yes, and it all started with the original... right here.

  • look at the grass at 1:09 xD

  • Fuel consumption? :o

  • @ChadSomoza93 not measured

  • @AgentJayZ to bad, its actually one of the first things you should do i think so you can caculate how much power it produced/used

  • @combomaster99 Oh, we measure and record power output. It's the most important number the customer is looking for. Fuel efficiency is not a concern in this case.

  • LM2500's Ive worked on in the past have VSV (First 6 stages on Compressor) but no VIGV, does this LM1500 has VSV as well? Just wondering...

  • @itr835 Yes, the first 6 stages have VSVs

  • AN 124 лучше

  • sounds as lovely as a10 's sabot cannon

  • Saw a monster truck with a jet engine! It shot flames out the top. I was badass! It was called the Coors Brewser!

  • Wow... how much engineering does it take to keep it in place under full power??? I MEAN.. i could just imagine the engine flying off its frame... but I'm sure you guys designed for that.......

  • @MrBeavisBeavis The green stand is structural steel, held to the skid by a dozen 3/4 inch bolts. The skid is bolted to pilings set 20ft deep in the ground, and covered with a concrete pad. It's all very standard material and methods of any steel-framed building.

  • fake

  • wow cool

  • Going to be my new ring tone. For especially when the boss calls.

  • i can imaging JET powered bullet trains, ahhhhhhhh:).

  • Best sound ever, thanks alot for this amazing video.

  • Cool as hell!!

  • Tower this is Ghostrider requesting a fly by...

  • @mvigilante Aaah, the good old days...

  • what program is that at 0:55?

  • Windows XP!

  • I had my volume on mute and still heard it!

  • That noise sounds better than that damn Friday song.

  • @jeepinvader I have no idea what that song is... and I'm damned proud of that !

  • @AgentJayZ good, you dont wanna listen to it

  • @pkemr4 I've still never heard it, and now I am very careful to avoid anything mentioning his name. I have seen him singing something for a few seconds, and it reminded me of Tony DeFranco... ... don't ask ;)

  • Christ, the bearings in those things must have a truly epic specification. If one of those things was to let go...

  • @JMBandcompany This is an early video, and the editing is sub-optimal... the "LOUD" bit in the title is my attempt to lessen the collateral damage...

Remember: hearing damage due to elevated SPL is cumulative - in the few seconds of pain before you threw your headphones against the wall, you incurred a statistically insignificant level of permanent hearing loss.

What damage did occur, however, will never be repaired.

  • Is there an air filter in this turbine?

  • @For54Ever When installed, this engine takes its air through an intake filter which is about the size of our test cell building. For a 20 minute test, it is run without a filter.

  • Put one of those in my Busa pls :) I wanna ride til I die, which would probably be 3.7 secs with one of these under my crotch.

At least it'll make me a nice splodge on a wall, I'd experience what a bug feels like on my visor xD

  • ¿como me quedaria la bicicleta con uno de esos? buen video

  • oh ok sorry looks just like the place over here thay do the same test turbine engines

  • that place is close to my house its in rancho corova california next to sacramento its called aerojet thay build and test jet engines

  • @ancelmo2000 Actually, we are in Fort St John , BC about a 12 hour drive north of Vancouver. S&S Turbine Services Ltd...

  • @AgentJayZ vancouver rocks! lol

    CANADIANS!!!!!!

  • @AgentJayZ fuck the states... EH? :) canadas where its AT!

  • @JustinWellssupport Canada is where this is at... although I would not endorse the other thing you said...

  • Is this the engine they placed into the North American Eagle ?

  • @Wasakracker79 No, we've overhauled dozens of engines since then. That was a J79, which is the flying relative of this LM1500.

  • @AgentJayZ

    aah ok,thank you !

  • Man I am surprised with sooo much power the damn engine didnt launch off with the brackets as well lol.

  • I'd just love to be your neighbor.

  • @JesusFruit10 The test cell is in a non-populated, highly secure secret location.

You can't test jet engines in a residential neighborhood, so there are no neighbors.

If you watch all my videos, you can find the test cell on Google Earth. When you do, come on by for a visit!

  • @AgentJayZ sorry. I kind of ment it as a joke. I shouldn't have included "just" in it. my bad

  • @JesusFruit10 You can still come for a visit !

  • @JesusFruit10 he probably doesn't have anymore neighbors, they all got sucked into one of those.

  • dyno for jets xDDDDDDD

  • I love it.

    This is great stuff.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • @AgentJayZ well i think a Aux injector and a fmu will be able to keep up with the extra fuel needs : ).

  • @rocker4u123 Sounds good. C'mon by and we'll get you on the right path.

It'll burn any flammable liquid: diesel, gasoline, ethanol, turpentine, varsol, olive oil, acetone, chicken fat... or a mixture of any of them.

About 5-6 gallons a minute at idle; 35 or so at full power.

Might need some extra heavy springs in the back of that truck.

  • @AgentJayZ i'll just add one or two more leaf springs and she'll be allright.

  • so how much would it cost to put this in my s10? ballpark figure

  • THIS IS REAL PORN!

  • @shercoogsherco ... Ahem... well I've got over a hundred more posted...

  • @AgentJayZ thanx! :D I love turbines

  • How is that engine stand secured?Hard to believe it just doesn't take off with the engine.lol

  • @koolbossjock That was asked by leandeganis about 3 months ago... you can see the detailed explanation below.

  • if we strapped like 10,000 engines in a row like that and turned them all on at the same time would the earth start to rotate faster??? we could turn back time!!!! hahaha i made myself lol

  • helicopter engine?

  • @tractorboydavidbrown no, it's too big for any helicopters flying today. And it's less fuel efficient than the three smaller engines used in the big choppers, like the CH53.

  • @takahiro2772 Very close! We're blowing our exhaust right at the Alcan store, which is about 1.5 Km in the distance. Now you can find the test cell on Google Earth.

  • Why the first stage of compressor isn't moving?

  • @fryanventu it is moving, but in front of it are the variable inlet guide vanes. They are mounted in the front frame and direct air into the compressor.

  • @AgentJayZ: Very clear! Thanks a lot!

  • @a7Xmanson666 These engines are used to provide 15,000 Hp for electrical generation or for moving natural gas through pipelines from northern Canada to the US. In either capacity, reliabilty is very important.

When running at the rated maximum power, compared to piston engines, turbines are much smaller, have far fewer breakdowns, and have far longer intervals between overhauls.

  • @AgentJayZ somebody said that this burns 35gal of fuel/min. Thats one hell of a cost for generating electric. whats the work load ratio?

  • being an aerospace engineer, i have a touch of insight , but still am amazed at people who make comments like, how you were going to be sucked into a fan. I hate to say it , but people in general are dumb.

  • @jbranco254 It's OK to be less than knowledgable about equipment and experiences that are fairly uncommon.

Heck, the fact that this stuff is a bit out of the ordinary is why I post it.

What I find funny is when people who have no knowledge don't bother to do one minute of research before making statements that only broadcast their misunderstanding...

Sometimes its good for a laugh...

  • Check out some of the comments on my vid " engine start"... amazing..

  • PURE POWER !!!

  • Hey are you in fort st john? If so I think I saw you on a discovery channel show helping a guy with a race car maybe?

  • @triden55 That was S&S Turbines, indeed. We are the engine sponsor/supplier to the North American Eagle land speed record team.

  • @AgentJayZ thats been wat ive been asking as well!

  • @NuclearSimon C'mon...if you really are nuclear, a wimpy little jet engine oughtta be a piece of piss for you!

    I'm puzzled!

  • @AgentJayZ Well have a guess why I have broken PC in my room...

  • That looks like a fun place to work.

  • Thanks for posting, I especially iked the little comments explaining what we were looking at, thnx

  • You don't use any kind of FOD 'guard' in front of the compressor inlet when running the engine?

  • @RocKiteman Our inlet screen started to crack, and we have not yet engineered a new, improved one.

Also, the screen causes a slight inlet loss, which we can adjust for in our power calculations.

Our customers really seem to like real, unadjusted power measurements.

Everything is a tradeoff these days.

  • @AgentJayZ Roger that. Thanks for the info.

  • An interesting film. Thanks very much for posting.

  • It's not really about speed anymore. Range and loiter time are more useful.

The F-15 has afterburning tubofans. So does the Eurofighter and the F-22.

They seem to be quite capable.

None of them are as fast as the F104, but they can stay flying a lot longer.

For industrial use, what is required is technically known as the gas generator.

It just so happens that a turbojet is a gas generator with an exhaust accelerating nozzle stuck on the back.

    Perfect.

  • @AgentJayZ F-15 can out dash an F-104 (M ~2.5 vs M ~2.2). Not sure how the F119 does at higher speeds, but the F-22 aerodynamically probably could do 2.5 if not higher but supposedly the aircraft materials (skin probably) would not be able to take it for very long if at all. It's important to remember the F-15 was designed with high mach capability to take down the MiG-25. I am interested though in how much the low bypass turbofan in the F-15 was a burden on limiting the top speed.

  • As far as military aircrafts, they got rid of good old turbojet engines but didn't really introduce a substitution . I mean can you ever achieve high match speeds with a low pass trubofan ? maybe you can from the augmentation\afterburner, but then that will be the last time you use the engine.

  • @Dosalt An afteburner burns its fuel "after" the engine... and has no effect at all on the compressor, bearings, oil, turbine, or anything else.

Engine service life is completely unaffected by afterburner use.

Fuel economy goes out the window, but the engine in front of an afterburner doesn't even know it's there.

  • @AgentJayZ Unless, of course, you're using the engines from an SR-71. In supersonic speeds, it bypasses the blades completely, using the sonic bomb created at the front of the engine to pressurize the air, and throws said air straight into the afterburner. They found that, the faster you go, and the harder you push the engine, the better fuel economy you get.

I realise that SR-71 engines are a little different to what you have there, but, I thought I'd throw in my 2cents (Or pennies as it were)

  • @SirVladDracula Yes, the J58 is a very special case in all respects. If you really want to split hairs, the SR-71 was never a military plane, so it's outside the discussion. The YF-12 was supposed to be a fighter-interceptor, but never was.

I love the J58, and think the SR-71 is the coolest looking thing ever created by the human race, bar none.

The afterburner of the J58 became the "burner" since at high speeds the normal core of the engine was completely bypassed. Hmmm...

  • @AgentJayZ Indeed! Not that it didn't have its faults - like, the bypass doors shutting in-flight and shutting one of the engines down, setting the aircraft into a spiral.

The power the engines can produce is limited only by the materials used in it, since getting, too much power and it melts.

However, recent estimates, with use of modern materials and whatnot, speak of speeds of up to Mach 6. SCRAM jet eat your heart out...

    Interesting talk =P

I salute you and your turbine testing.

  • why don't they use these powerful turbojet engines anymore?

  • @Dosalt They do, that's why we're in the business of keeping them running.

Newer military turbofans have the same or better performance, and are about twice as efficient... but they also cost about 20 times as much as the flight version of this engine - the J79.

This engine is used to turn a power turbine on the ground, which creates 15 thousand horsepower. The unit being tested here powers a natural gas compression station which moves Gas in a pipeline from Canada to the US.

  • My old man worked as a technician at the North Dakota Air National Guard. They a building called the "hush house" where they pulled the engines out of the F-16s and tested them. He said at full thrust, even with the ear protection, its the loudest damn sound in the world. I believe it. Damn.....

  • How much thrust does it generate at full throttle (in Kg force or pound force) ?

  • @amiyaiitkgp This is an LM1500, which is not a thrust engine. The J79 turbojet, which is the aircraft engine this is based on, will produce about 13,000 lbs of thrust without afterburner.

  • Are you crazy running that bolted to the ground? Now I've got to add a minute to all my clocks every day.

  • @tomintroy No need to fret!

Although we are creating heatilons by smashing fuel and air molecules, the temp is so high that when static electrons couple with the photons produced by the flames ( containing, of course, heatilons...), we actually compress chronons. Therefore we accelerate the earth, but transport the observers frame of reference back in time.

    Overall, it balances out.

We don't test at night because there is no known place in the equation for darkelons...

  • @AgentJayZ Well that explains the Dayjaview I keep gettin. I seen somethin like that ina movie. I waznt shur how he did it but some guy saves a womans life by flying real fast bacward around the earth. He stopped an aerthquake to!

  • @AgentJayZ Haha that was the nerdiest and coolest explanation for something I've ever read. Awesome stuff!

  • @AgentJayZ I knew that.

  • @Njemes2 I knew you knew... I was just explaining it to the other guys. We all need to be on the same page... or at least in the same dimension.

  • @AgentJayZ Actually it was sarcasm and i didn't understand anything u said :)

  • @tomintroy Hehehe That was a good one :-)

  • Amazing sounds here! Love it! :))

  • I'm a little shocked how he just walks across the front of the engine..

  • @Dorisequador He is me, and I walked in front of it when it was idling, making all kinds of noise but no power.

  • @AgentJayZ cool. i was wondering that myself. but figured, you would know when where and how close you could get

  • @Dorisequador there is an area in front where you can and cant walk. At higher revolutions this area will be farther away from the intake.

  • @Dorisequador that would not be the front, that would be the intake manifold, it litteraly only sucking air in, and not enough to pull him in from about 10 feet away.

  • @Dorisequador thats becoz its on low rpm ..daah

  • my god, how many decibels is that? i just woke up the whole F'ing house..

  • I wonder if this particular engine can be installed in an older Sabreliner 45... I bet the power would be sufficient enough to either get the plane off the ground or completely tear itself off the engine pylon... :) That's one whopper of an engine. I miss working around the P&W JT8Ds on the older 737-200 series... :(

  • @hawktb9 If you want to try, I can sell you a couple J79s. This is an LM1500, so it doesn't have all the accessories necessary for flight. Things like oil reservoirs, fuel pumps, generators, and other accessories. But the rotating bits and the cases are exactly the same as a flight J79.

  • hey i dont think a flame supposed to come out of the start cart when u start it

  • @justwired you are correct
