Hmm, interesting indeed!! From what I can make out Barbaro has 2 full brothers living and another on the way?? I feel sorry for them in a way as they will always have to live up to Barbaro's example and that is not always possible, there is always one who will excell when others will come close to, but never quite reach the highest expectations? Good luck to Barbaro's sibllings I say, and I hope they get a filly to breed on with if they continue the dynasty!!!

You people will defintly disagree with me, but i am just gonna put it put there:

I dont think that he should race. He is 1 of a kind and he has Barbaros blood because they are brothere but what if somthign happens to him? what will his owner do? put him down? THERE WAS a way to keep Barbaro alive I strongly belive that there is always a way. In my opininon i think that Nicanor shouldnt race bacause he is a full breed. There are virietice if things he can be with out being a racehorse.

Of course there was a way to keep Barbaro alive. No one ever denied that. But how much was that worth? He was off his feed and not comfortable. He easily could have been kept alive. But he was suffering!

And Nicanor is doing brilliantly. He is bred to run.

Well sure ok yeah i agree with you that Barbaro was suffering by why did they let him race when they have seen it coming that he will get injured and be put down? What will Nicanor's owner will do with him when he will get hurt? i doubt he needs a horse that is cripeld (HOPE THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN) i BET that when he will see that the horse cant get through that he will simply put him down. He can make a wonderful show jumper, less chance of him getting hurt there.

there was no way to see that Barbaro would get hurt. It was a freak accident. And as I said before, Barbaro and Nicanor were/are bred to run. They love it. And if Nicanor wasn't good at it, and didn't have the heart for it they would not race him. But obviously he does. There are sooooo many horses that race, and so few that get hurt, and have to be euthanized.

And his trainer was very cautious, and didn't race him until he was ready.

how do you know that Nicanore likes it were u ever disinged to be raced? did u have to run nonstop? did u get hit by a wip? were u ever in a situatuation that the only thing you could do is obey?

Anyway. If a horse does not enjoy running it is very obvious. The horse does not put thier heart into it. They don't win, and they DO NOT try.

The whips do not hurt them, and are easily compared to a nascar driver using a steering wheel.

Regardless to what you might think these horses are treated especially well and loved very much

yes, that's my whole point. he could have been given various drugs, and more surgeries and probably could have lived for quite a while, but his owners and the people with connections to him did not want to see him in pain any longer.

Your not him. Yeah it might look like it, but hey there is a thing called WHIPES, and that makes him run dispite evrything ok sure he was bred to run, but will he end up doing what Barbaro did? Die in pain?

and they don't hurt. they simply guide a horse so they don't hit the rail or another horse. a jockey's stirrups are so short a whip is the only way they can guide a horse.

@yuliya1995 i have a TB mare. she did not like racing at all she liked running but not racing and that showed in her performance. she raced a couple times and came in last. it all goes to show how a horse runs. but horses who win or place well do like racing and the horse wouldn't let you force it to do something it didn't want it to do

@yuliya1995 something can happen to any horse. but what you dont understand is that this is ancient. it goes back far, THIS IS WHAT THIS BREED WAS MADE FOR. sure not all TBs like to run but 95% of the time they will. also it depends on the seriousness of the injury. they kept barbaro alive for eight months trying to save him so you cant say they didn't keep him alive because they did. would you rather have him suffer?

If anyone saw Nicanor's last race on the 13th, he actually out did his brother. With the aid of blinkers, Nic won at Delaware Park by 15 lengths! He did exactly what his brother did but even better. He definately has his big brother's spirit...Keep winning Nicanor!! We love you!

Why are we talking about Nicanor being defeated? We have to hope for the best just vecause hes not barbaro or eight belles he can be an extrememly great racer and there is a chance that he wouldve been defeated eventually but barbaro was a strong horse i also believe he wouldve won the triple crown elts just hope nicanor has the same great racing skills barbaro had:]

i loved barbaro after watching him win his maiden race.

and he would have been famous anyway, because winning the kentucky derby isn't exctly easy. and chances are he would have been the first triple crown champ in almost 30 years.

and honestly i don't see what's wrong with thier names.

and if you don't like them or thier names or whatever why are you watching this vid?

there's a chance he would have been defeated eventually. But at the same time Seatle Slew won the Triple Crown and remained undefeated throughout his whole career.

I believe he would have been a Triple Crown Champion. But we'll never relly know...

Awesome vid! Nicanor's 1st race is Sat. 1/31/09 at Gulfstream Park Florida. Edgar Prado is the Jockey. It is race #8 and Nicanor drew the 4th post position of 12 horses. A 1 mile, maiden race. Godspeed to Nicanor!

Barbaro was a nice horse. Too bad we didn't get to see him run that much. Now I'm not at all bringing down Barbaro but I don't feel he deserves to be measured next to greats such as Secretariat and Curlin. Curlin, was a fantastic racehorse. So was Barbaro. Just my thoughts. I highly doubt Barbaro would win a race against such horses. However, I really wish he could have been a triple crown champion. He deserved it, and good luck to Nicanor and the other brothers!

i don't know if he would have measured up to secretariat, i think very very few horses ever have or will. including curlin, who i love.

i think a race between curlin and barbaro would have been fairly close...

nicanor has one three races on the turf now(undefeated on turf), and i don't think edgar was riding him.

Nicanor has won 2 straight races on turf and his jockey both times was Anna Rose Rosie Napravnik and she is wicked serious, dedicated, young, determined and talented.

Nicanor is being sent to Florida for the winter. He is still growing. He just ran 3 furlongs in 38 flat. They say he is Big, Lean and Fast (Hopefully he will have the stamina to go the distance). Will be a little while before his 1st race (probably early 2009). He is showing potential. Go Nicanor!!

He is being trained by Michael Matz and I'm sure the Derby is a goal, but he still has yet to race. Some people think that he won't do any good, but they need to realize that he's a late bloomer and his trainer is being patient. They also need to realize that Curlin didn't race until a three year old and is now a back-to-back Horse of the Year. So we'll just see how he turns out. . .

Have they scheduled him for any races? That's something I need to look up. lol. And you're right about him having huge shoes to fill, but, (in Nicanor's defense) Barbaro didn't make it far enough(referring to his Preakness breakdown) to prove that he was the champion that we all want to believe he was. In short, he wasn't tested in the bigger races. But, stuff happens, I still loved him, he captured my heart, and I loved for just being what he was. :0)

Yeah, we know he was a champion because of his runs, especially in the Derby. It's just a thing you've got to think about. But, for the record, I never said that it was funny. And Curlin is no cow pony(I'm not trying to get a heated debate started) according to his races. He is just as good as Barbaro, and he's one of my favs in racing. Again, I loved Barbaro, but there's still no way to tell which would be better than the other. It doesn't really matter who's better anyway to me.

I watched Curlin in many races, watched him win!!! He is a great horse, but no where near Barbaro. Barbaro would have chewed him up and spit him out. Barbaro would have never been beaten by a European horse. Although, they are both racing royals.
