@KS873081 Most young skaters have never heard of Mike McGill or Alan Gelfand. Two skaters, best friends, both from Florida. Both flew out to California in the late 70's and blew minds with their skating. They both got sponsored by Powell/Peralta. They invented 2 of the most influential tricks in skateboarding. Yet some think Hawk invented the 540 and Mullen invented the ollie. In case anyone wondered..."Ollie" was Gelfand's knickname by his buddies before he even invented the trick.

@KS873081 Here's a story you might like.. Last time I skated vert was this1 time in a halfpipe 20 yrs ago. Before that, religiously in cement parks, from 1976-1981 til I blew my knee out. 1 time a bunch of us drove down to Cherry Hill back in 79 for the Amateur contest. That park was absolutely insane! Gelfand and McGill were there for the contest. They weren't Pro yet. Some Pro skaters+sponsors from Cali came over to judge. I got to see these guys skate 1sthand. They were Fkn unreal!....cont..

I had to check it out, I couldn't help myself. Unbeknownst to my wife, I dug out my old snubnose bowlrider with the SIMS conicals + 6inch Indy's from the cellar. I went over there and started skating it doing simple kickturns just hitting the lip....cont.

Some farout old man trying to relive the glory days. After awhile, I started to get a little comfortable. It was all coming back to me. Tried a grind on the lip. A Cess slide. Nothing too daring. I tried an axle drop and made it... barely. Then I tried an acid drop and fell full force on my back....cont.

The next day, my age caught up to me. Severe back spasms. I have never felt pain like that in my back ever!! I missed a few days of work because of it.

It could've been alot worse really, had I hit my head. My wife was none too happy that I risked our livelyhood on my stupidity.

The moral of this story is... it's ok to look back,.. but look only.

Dropped in, hit the lip on the other side, kickturn back in, small damp patch at bottom of transition, to flat on my back. Next day I cd hardly move. lol. Never again. Still love it tho man.

Neil Blender...There's a name you don't hear too often. He was good (I didn't know he had a sig. model though) He had a great sense of humor too.

Dave Andrecht was another good skater that really don't hear much about today.

I used to say I'm going to do a McTwist while surfing but I live in SoCal and the waves are rarely good enough shape to do so and then when you finally have a wave that could allow it you then go in shock because it's so rare. Skateboarding San Jose rules. But most skateparks are weak-tit, like the surf. Nothing but 99% hype.
