While the violin in Arab music is typically played in the same position as in Western music, it is not uncommon in Morocco (where this video was filmed) for the instrument to be played upright. In fact, the in the majority of music that uses the violin here, including Andalusian, Chaabi, Jebli, etc., musicians tend to prefer the upright playing style as demonstrated in this video. And, yes, Mr. Harouchi plays quite nicely! Thanks for the comment.
