i <3 the deck of cards metaphor in this song. It is all about dealing with your emotions and playing them in relationships. He says "...that's not the shape of my heart" money (the diamonds), fighting (the spades and the clubs) are not what he stands for, the heart is even distorted for his heart is real and his heart can feel. He may not be a man that easilty expresses his feelings but he does not hand out too much out when it comes to what he feels but he does pretend like everyone else.

Sting is surely the best lyricist in pop music today and the last thirty years. I love this song. Just heard it last night on one of the satellite music channels. I had no idea that this was where Carl Thomas got the sample for his song "Emotional" from, but hear it clearly now especially the harmonica at the end. Too bad there is so very little originality in today's music that even a respectable artist like Carl Thomas feels the need to sample instead of creating something from scratch.
