@GORIZARD7 yes but technically it was a monster movie it didnt hv anything to do with the american 1 making it a japanese version and it came before godzilla
King Kong was an American creation. Where Godzilla was created by the Japanese! Therefore by default making Godzilla the first Japanese movie monster! King Kong is not a Japanese creation, but an American creation. Godzilla is not the first movie monster but he is the first JAPANESE movie monster.
@ThalllestBro It's because that's nit the Godzilla everybody knows this Godzilla burrows underground hiding from the military he's an districting force!
I don't understand why people always moan about the 1998 American Godzilla movie... sure, it was crap, but what did you expect? An intellectual drama?
Oddly enough I remember hearing it was Godzilla that inspired Cloverfield, JJ Abrams is recorded as saying seeing Godzilla everywhere made him feel that America needed it's own verson of Godzilla.
@snakes3425 Unfortunately Abrams is not inspired enough, the more time he wastes delaying a Cloverfield pre/sequel... the less likely it's ever going to be completed.
Legendary Pictures an Warner Bro's are working with Toho to Reboot the ''American Godzilla Franchise'' an are planning to release it sometime in 2012.
It wont have anything to do with the 1998 shit-fest by Emmerich an Devlin, an There keeping the Classic Toho design, Atomic Breath an it's confirmed Godzilla will fight 1 or more monster's in the film.
So all hail Godzilla's great return to American Theater's!
Since childhood in the 60s, I have been a fan of the King of the monsters! Where do you think Godzie came from? Anyway America screwed up making that stupid swamp monster movie & dared to name it after the King. I was pissed & shut it off when I saw that fake. Thank God Godzilla kicked his ass in Final Wars! Loved it!
The reason why the American Godzilla movie was so terrible was because Roland Emerich directed it...what did you expect...the guy is easily the most over rated directer in Hollywood. He gets so much hype because he's Hollywood's political propaganda butt-boy and so he gets the shiny projects but all he knows how to do is special affects and putting down white people and culture in every way possible.
I remember when the "western" Godzilla came out in 98 or something. I puked in my mouth a little. Nothing beats the original 54 Godzilla. The 98 one was just gay and so hollywood
@mechatyler The majority of G-Fans seem to have died out around the time of GFW. The group of people left in their wake that call themselves "G-Fans" are pretty much only united by their utter hatred of any actual Godzilla movie except the first one.
They are also all children, so none of them understand why it's not kosher to just "be okay" with Zilla. Some don't even know what GINO means. No, that's not a joke.
I noticed that Dr. Laurence G. Barnes didn't know about one of Godzilla's body features: his arms and hands. According to a special feature on the new dvd of the original film, the art department's final version of Godzilla's appearance, made using a very early children's book on dinosaurs and a dino issue of Life magazine, had the body, legs, tail and head of a T-Rex, the arms and hands of Iguanodon, and plates like Stegosaurus.

so Japan stole our ideas and made this all time classic monster, if we never made king kong and that other monster movie godzilla would've never came to be so in short it was imagined by us and made famous by the Japanese
no dude the idea was not stoel from out movies infact i dont tink the first godzilla movie cam out until lsomewhere in the 1920s and king kong came out in 1933
fmoe2750, what are you talking about? King Kong is still a very classic monster, just as popular as Godzilla as well as having the credibility of being first. Why would Jackson have bothered to make his epic had it not been for the creature's enduring and legendary reputation?
In response to your claim that Japan "stole our ideas", I beg to differ. They were definitely INSPIRED by our monster films, yes, but they ADDED ideas to these films that hadn't been done before. Their monster was different from any American monster at that time--it breathed fire, it was invincible, it was mean spirited, etc. The film also was much darker in tone than the US monster flicks of that time. Their additions made Gojira stand out from the rest of the monster pack, making it unique
true, the old Japanese man at the beginning thought he saw what appeared to be Godzilla because of the legend, but it was a new monster, later renamed "ZILLA", so if you think of it that way it was a BAD ASS movie.

Final Wars was an awful film. It was so bad, that it bombed in Japan when it was released and only barely made the money it cost to make it back, when it was released internationally.
oh ur saying if they remade king kong vs. godzilla, thats the staff u wud want on it? at first i thought u were sayin that john carpenter did direct it, was like WOO no way
1. John Capenter can tell a story look a Halloween and his remake of the Thing
2, Tim Burton should make the story dark look at the original Japanesse virson its dark and gloomy
3. To the die hard fans. a guy in a rubber G costume is a tradition that has withstood the test of time. but to the genreal public its down right laugh able. make him cg with trademark featuresJackson could pull it off look at Kong
i wouldn't mind america taking another go at it, but i was so disappointed in godzilla 1998 so i'm a bit skeptical like you. i think they ought to place it in back in japan 1950s era, not modern-day NYC...WTF WERE THEY THINKING?!?! i could see hollywood trying to make a trilogy of it, but it definitely needs to go back to japan in some way.
@Twackius I don't think actors realise what the movie's going to be like when they film it. They make it one scene at a time, often out of sequence, and without seeing the special effects or action sequences. I'd imagine Broderick isn't particularly proud of that particular film. That said, he might not be a fan - he's trying to sell a film after all.
It's that dinosaur thing that kids gravitate to. Kids, generally, are drawn close to things that are bigger than them. It's a kind of subconscious parental instinct, and, in a sense, dinosaurs & monsters (like Godzilla) represent a kind of parental symbolism. Why do you think Barney, Jurassic Park & Godzilla are such a hit with children?
Is the new monster derived from Godzilla's cells? Or a new bioengineered monster, or a monster accidently brought back from outer space (like in THE X FROM OUTER SPACE-1967 Shochiku).
the new monster is derived from charles durning's cells. it is also bio-engineered from raymond burr's exhumed cells, and brought back to earth by nick adams's cells.
