  • "MIssed it again!"

    LMAO!!!!

  • I watched the show as child and even though I can't remember much about the humor- I was young, probably didn't understand some of it, I know that I dearly loved all the characters. I LOVED this show and can remember being so upset when I heard the show would never be shown on TV again.

  • Funny is funny..black or white.

  • It's always a good time to buy. So says the Realtors.

  • I see only comedy here. I've seen shows where whites act the same way. It is just comedy that's all. Fantastic actors with great talent. If we can't laugh at each other then we have a real problem. We laughed at all in the family! Why can we not laugh at Amos and Andy? Because it was made in the 50's? Give me a brake.

  • he said gyp a couple times, thats a racist term referring to gypsies, knew this show was racist :p

  • look at the black shows on today, the comedies is there any difference yet this was racist? Only because it came out the 50's and 60's it MUST be racist.

  • @bobbollu

bc they were not saying MF to everything and giving glory to shot up knuckledraggers.

Hehaw (sp?) was just as """degrading"" but whites were not trying to be something they were not.

  • My question is this: Did people view thiese shows as everyday, normal people in silly, over the top situations just acting, or did people view this as the way black people really are? Was there any other type of shows that depicted truths about black people and how we really lived back then, or just a bunch shows showing blacks being criminals, stupid, and easily swindled and black mailed? When you laugh at this are you laughing at the comics as actors acting or at how you view all black people?

  • @TheJujis86 The problem lied in the NAACP's view of things. It was the only view of Blacks on Television & their was some merit to that arguement ,however pulling the show wasn't the answer. (Tho it wasn't actaully done until the show was in reruns) Most Blacks I knew loved the show also. And Whites I knew didn;t look back on it & say,'Gee,all Blacks I knew were just like that". It also showed Blacks in respectable positions.

  • I grew up watching this sitcom with my Mother. We loved it and I wish they would bring it back....Thank you for posting to share with us.

  • I grew up watching this sitcom with my Mother. We loved it and I wish they would bring it back....

  • "I figured that might be some re-concussion" Love it!

  • My favorite one for 60 years

  • This is Friggin Hilarious....Andy bought a stucco house, that makes him the Stuckie!!

  • Very peculiar that those people who find fault with this classic humor have no problem with George Jefferson walking all over Bentley's back.

  • go big Andy

  • I doubt that Lightning was as stupid as Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, who thinks that Vietnam is still North and South Vietnam.

  • That big dark skin black guy look like Cedric the Entertainer lol

  • This was a great show they should re run it on tv again I enjoyed it for the acting and the comedy value there wasnt many other shows that could reach their standard of comedy Great show

  • I have a box set of the A&A show. I look at all of the black people who were working and lost there jobs.

  • Comment removed

  • This is one of the best classics of all time!! I still have to watch it over and over! Thanks so much for this video!!

  • I Never knew that Lightning and Congressman Hank Johnson were one and the same person!!!!

Then again, maybe he's not??????..........................I doubt that even Lightning would be dumb enough to think that Guam could "tip over and capsize".

  • @rrmfg Lightning is a helluva lot smarter and a lot more honest than these black scumbag politicians like Johnson, Obama and the rest of the race card goons.

  • Sanford and Son and England's Steptoe and Son were modeled after these hilarious comedies. The radio version of Amos and Andy boosted the morale of hundreds of millions during WW 2 when the world was threatened by Nazi annihilation, human subjugation and genocide of all the races considered inferior.

  • Lightning = Barak

  • Back during the 20s - 50s maybe this was racial but the majority of the world took great strides to put those days behind us!!!!!! I see both points you guys are discussing, but realize it's life and it will never be a perfect world! When life gives you lemons make lemonade plain and simple !

  • some of the true comedy classics...i lost one of my best friends because he felt this was racist...this is true comedy and i'll go to my grave loving it....

  • we can thank the damn NAACP assholes for taking this great show off tv forever.

  • No difference between Amos and Andy and Blacks, when compared to The Beverly Hillbillies, All in the Family, Green Acres and on and on and White people. IT'S COMEDY, At some point ya gotta get over it !

  • The steriotype of backs in Amos and Andy is no worse than that about Irish and Scottish. The problem with blacks is they can't take a joke.

  • Funny clean comedy without profanity which is not seen in black comedy today. It shows blacks in much better terms than the todays balck humor that calls them "niggers", "hos", etc. I wish it was still on TV.

  • @TribalSuperman101: Your "tons of examples" so far can be counted on one hand. Furthermore, they discount that proportionally, films which depict white people unflatteringly are in the minority, in light of a METRIC TON of films that star white people as anything they choose to be. Heroes, mostly.

Dated media like Amos and Andy were merely what black actors were ALLOWED to have at the time--depictions that pacified mostly white audiences, that weren't threatening to the status quo.

  • just comedy ,no worse than black comedy today.Black comedians today will with no hesitation say nigger.I have'nt heard kingfish call andy nigger.Today whats the difference with the tyler perry shows. He got them acting stupid as all outdoors. If you gonna talk junk about a stereotypical show TALK ABOUT THEM ALL my bros and sistas. Also how can any people have a nerve to talk about african american issues if you have been so lazy in life as to never have studied correct grammar and spelling.

  • @tribalsuperman what u dont understand is the fact that black racial slurs have negative historical meanings that white people made up to oppress blacks and keep slavery going amoung other reasons i can tell you how black negative slurs or characters origanated like brute but do u know the origan if u do which u probably dont has little to no negative backround as that of a word like coon i respect but dont agree with your opinion and would like to see what u think so please send a message

  • were they talented actors/comedians?? YES! but the material is often derogatory towards blacks..

  • American Blacks are different than the african american blacks simple reason christain blacks verus islamnic blacks

  • I always loved Amos and Andy and I never thought of it as being racial. I loved them as people, not thinking about the color of their skin. It was only when the blacks had it banned that I ever had the thought it was a racial show. Can't we just love the characters without it having to be a racist thing?

  • Yes, there are some racial undertones here, but it's not as bad as watching white men paint their faces black and seeing them mimic black stereotypes.

I have to admit though. That bit in the end where the guy is lured by the dollars thrown on the table made me laugh hard.

  • @hanes3777 Do you even know how black face started and what the real intentions were? Learn some history and then criticize.

  • You're seriously aren't understanding the whole racist America of the 50s huh. That dense.... I'm talking about Amos and Andy because its, ya know, the subject..White Chicks was greenlighted because it was profitable. Basically another "lol black people and their racist ways" Now THAT can be another discussion, but you can't seem to grasp that America was racist during the 20s and 50s...

  • You're really not understanding that blacks, and minorities in general have long-standing stereotypes against them. To be blunt, whites don't have stereotypes since slavery because they created the negative stereotypes while put themselves on a pedestal. Why don't you understanding this????

  • And this is where you show your true self......You just generalized an ENITRE group. Im black myself and Im most certainly not racist. I WILL say that since I don't dress like the so-called typical blk person, and hate hip-hop I was picked on during high school. The point I'm trying to make is that they end 2 b very vocal. Just because u dont see white people spew shit and put on a smile doesn't mean they aren't racist themselves. Not even gonna touch Obama...Cracker is the is the racial slur...

  • I'll reply to both of your comments.

Christ you're stupid...That would be the media's attempt to not always have the "black brute". Good in ideal, but terrible in actual execution. THAT ISN'T BEING RACIST. In your first eample, if they constantly showed black or minorities as the rapist murderer....do you see wher I'm going. And your 2nd example is showing your racist beliefs. You looking into this wayyy too much.....

  • People seem to love pulling out the Liberal/Concervaitve card all the time.

The fact still stands that at the time, America was racist. A majority of Blacks were confined to certain roles like this. Today, people can say all they want that its comdey and funny and all, because the world has changed. But America was racist, period. Do you know any of the Black stereotypes portrayed commonly?

  • You have to be stupid to not see this as racist today. Thing is, the anti-black stereotypes was very damn ingrained in American culture some people didn't even realize. Black people had to find work in an Anti-black system. So they weren't "selling out". It was the only work they could find.

This shit isn't about political correctness.

  • These guys are so dumb they could be white men.

  • There is nothing racist or stereotypical about this show. It is just real funny.

Rap is racist and degrading to black people.

  • He looks just like my Lawn Jockey.

  • kingfish reminds me of foghorn leghorn

  • i need a house too , i thinlk i'll call the king -fish , he may have a house for me ,

    tweet in my tweeit

  • Filmed at Hal Roach Studio's in Culver City California.

Great funny TV Show. Kingfish always got it in the end.

    Great listing.

  • amos & andy were two very fine actors, its good clean entertainment,,i can"t say that about the crap thats on tv today

  • where you standin, lightnin'? livingroom or bedroom?

"Uh.. I'm still in the backyaaaard. "

    LOL - lightnin rules!

  • I grew up in the days when Amos n Andy was a TV Favorite..Back in those days we didn't think of this show as being "Racist" just FUNNY!!!! oh I am Afr-Am....

  • These guys could never imagine in there wildest dream a Barack Obama in the White House, God Bless America.

Peace & Love From a old Hippy

  • WELL HELLO DARE!

  • The old Amos And Andy TV show cast blacks in a more favorable light than 97% of the current black sitcoms.

  • 3:58 - 4:20 HAHAHA

  • That's a fuck'in ass damn shame. Those were the only kind of parts a black man could get in those days. I'm glad those days are long gone.. And i'm glad most white folks don't have that kind of mentality anymore.

  • a two white man show wouldnt be written by blacks at that time. Even today there is no such a show or sitcom on white people that is based on racial prejudice. but Amos & Andy was written by 2 white guys showing the image of stupid, corrupt

swindlers, sellig of their friends for a little dollars

  • Why not? Would you object. if 2 black men, wrote a show about white people,

like Spike Lee. I think, you are a racist!!!

  • There is no such thing as Politically Correct it is just made up bullshit. P.C.= just touchy people.

  • hahaha silly spoox

  • if you guys were not ignorant- you will notice that this show was racist. And it will make sense for these people to label it as rascist at this time because everyone knows that back then you would not see any Black person at the same level of the white person. Yes people are swayed by what they see on tv and it still has the power to use methodsin order to display how people really acted.

  • ya....black people did sell out to play the roll though. to make money

  • why is everybody complaining about way back when, you guys sound so stupid. Its funny how you idiots keep talking about how messed up today is but you dumbasses still use the technology of today, laugh at all the comedy movies, and still tune into the comedy sitcoms.

  • hahaha so true

  • these guys were geniuses, the actors and the writers. It's too bad they didn't receive the exposure and promotion they deserved because of misplaced political correctness. they were the Kings of Comedy of their day.

    ere

  • Give me a break with the clowns crying that this is racist.

If THIS is racist...then "The Andy Griffith Show," "Hee Haw," "I Love Lucy," "Green Acres," "The Beverly Hillbillies." "F Troop" and "The Honeymooners" must be racist too, since they all make fun of white people!!

Hey....did anyone notice how much funnier ALL of these old shows were BEFORE everyone starting worrying about being so "Politically Correct?" Modern TV SUCKS by comparison.

  • @mc2NY I couldn't agree more. Political correctness has destroyed Hollywood.

  • i only watched this for a history project. It's plain racist!

  • Some of people are just plain stupid whats the race have to do with the fact these guys are funny? the writers who wrote the scripts were super funny and these great actors made it the best shame on any of you who make racists remarks your kind is no longer needed in this world.

  • Why cant now and day black ppl be more like this :(

  • ummm because its is a racist show and was made to be so. they were two white men playing two black men

  • not in the t.v. series. in the radio they were white. in this video, the whole cast was black. the studio insisted on it.

  • Your remark is 100% racist. You can plainly see the actors here are not white.

  • Two white men? Huh? It's not a racist show at all. By today's standards it's pretty iffy, but all journey's start with a step.

  • If this was on prime time today it would be a No.1 hit ,I have seen some of the others it is funny,it is some of the funniest material out there. These guys had talent. Unlike todays shows my kids can watch this.

  • lightening was a killer. hilarious. i'm sure everyone knows someone like him.

  • Lightnin was played by the late Nick Stewart. He was also known as the voice of Brer Bear in Disney's Song of the South.

  • He was some times billed as Nick O'Demus. He was a talented actor.

  • This was the best comedy show ever produced...it took them 4 years to cast the actors in the show, and a more talented group has never been put together. This show was the original "Dumb & Dumber" and the writing was also first rate. It is a shame it got caught up in the politics of the 60's....there were many blacks and whites cast in the show that were "normal"....it was just the main cast that were so wacky...and funny.

  • There is nothing wrong with Amos and Andy show. I just happen to be a proud black person and to see black people performing at their best,is wonderful.Especially when other races back then thought blacks were inferior these men and women prove then wrong. This is only acting and am sure some blacks were proud to see black faces on the screen.

  • You need to go educate yourself. These men and women were NOT respected. Point Blank Period.

  • jrose, you have a good point BUT Racism stops with your lips closed and let others if they must tear down the Race be the fools of themselves. We are all here together and Racism is needed here only needed here are people who have a kind soul and a open heart.

  • Yeah, it's much better now with how a lot of blacks call each other the N word and make fun of the white people. I'm glad they came so far.

  • sooooo funnyy

  • As a white person Im so sorry that people before me were so sad to be Racists and be so unhuman.....these guys were funny and its a shame people white did not see the humor and how funny these guys were.

  • Thank you. A guy whose not endorsing racism for once.

  • Only in America.

  • What happened is integration

  • I'm just amazed at how well behaved the negros were back then. What the hell happened?

  • Great old show. Too bad we live in a world that needs to censor it.

Tim Moore: you were the best.

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • This is comedy, not a documentary ....Know what I mean.......Vern.

  • Prejudice is expecting every black character on television to act like some group wants them to look and talk. This is comedy, not a documentary example of role models and how people really live. Both black and white people liked these characters and it only was labeled "hate and racism" in the 1970s when those who weren't there became offended for those that weren't offended. I guarantee only a moron thought that's how black people acted when this aired. It's the same now.

  • now that's what I call a house

  • Racist white people...

  • I find nothing racist about these shows; sure the actors were made to look silly at times, but that's what comedy is. We viewers loved these actors, watching them every evening and growing to feel like we knew them personally. How can you hate someone who makes you laugh?

  • @unclewalt56 These shows were great. Good clean comedy. I grew up and still live in the deep south in a county where black and white population is 50/50. We ran a country store where 75% of our business was black. Everyone, black and white loved this show. I never thought all blacks were like Kingfish and Andy anymore than I thought all whites were like the 3 Stooges, Abbott and Costello, or Laurel and Hardy. Red Foxx said that Tim Moore(KIngfish) was his all time favorite actor. My choice too

  • @unclewalt56 Agree 100%

  • Love this show as a kid

  • Seems to me that on radio or TV, the show should have been "Kingfish and Andy." You really didn't see (or hear) Amos that often.

  • Thank You For Posting; Barack, and Michelle move into the White House, Ya'All.

    Cheers!

    Valkyrie Ziege Mourne

  • This is funny . It is neither racist nor prejudiced. Sandford and son is similar and Al Bundy is the same but white.

  • I agree with you on that. But remember this was at a time when they were the only Black people on TV. Imagine if this was an mostly black country and the only White show on TV was My Name is Earl......You would be pretty pissed. But Amos and Andy aren't bad compared to how we portray blacks as clowns and monkeys in the rap music of today.

  • Get ready to pay reparations with President Obama in charge.

  • White house turned into Black house!

  • This was one funny episode!..these actors were STARS!

  • They each should have been burned alive at the stake for this buffoonery-- sell outs to their RACE

  • "you smell that penicillin?" LOL!

  • "I'm gonna open everything that's closed, and close everything that's open!!!!" ROFL

  • "MISSED IT AGAIN! bahahahahahahah

  • How come Andy seems like a funny version of Cedric the Entertainer?

It sucks these guys will be forgetten by the New Generation and never get their credit for being pioneers back in their day due to supposed racism.

  • Pioneers??? They're are sellouts to my race, better dead than alive.

  • u trippin bruh

  • the white water scandal of bill and hillary clinton!!!when we lost amos and andy...we lost a distinct warning that made us ,as americans all vulnerable!!!

  • Yep, "part of this house is missing."

    :) 5 STARS.

  • is the honey mooners racist? neither is this i wached as a child never saw the color just the humer. if you think this is racist maybe your the racist?

  • anyone who does not think this show is racist has an iq of 30. look at the time it was made in. research the producers. get familiar with racist black stereotypes and characters. Uncle Tom cough cough. Lord help me. Why are people so dumb?

  • Well, I don't think you can judge the past by today's standards. After all, by yesterday's standards, gays would be considered

sick people. In the past, slavery was accepted, but now it isn't. Black people used to be refered as "colored people"...there was nothing racist about it...just a discription. Today, they are "people of color". The more things change, the more they stay the same.

  • Agreed.

  • Learn your history before you start shooting off. when Amos and Andy started in the 1930's (as a radio show)it was performed by two white guys and it was very racist. Then in the middle off World War 2, the network decided to make it into a real black show. They hired black actors to play the parts, set it live on stage, brought in special guest stars each week, and brought in local black musical acts. People confuse the racist depression era show with the later show, which was not racist.

  • As a black male, I actually found this quite amusing. However, I do see your point. The show was clearly undermining the self-respect and general advancement of America's blacks during that era.

  • my favorite show when i was a kid. i have them on video but need to transfer to dvd. Saphire was the grandmother on a recent sitcom, csn't remember which one

  • "That My MaMa" from 1974-75

  • my all time favorite show when I was a kid. I have all of them on video but need them on a dvd now. Saphire was still working of a tv sitcom as late as 10 years ago, don't remember the show, she was the grandmother though

  • wHEN THE NAACP GOT THIS SHOW BANNED FROM TV THEY ALSO CAUSED THESE WONDERFUL AFRICAN AMERICAN PERFORMERS TO LOSE THEIR JOBS - IT WAS SO RARE FOR AFRICAN AMERICANS TO HAVE REGULAR TV WORK IN THOSE DAYS - SO WHAT PURPOSE DID IT REALLY SERVE - THE NAACPS AGENDA IF YA ASK ME!

  • The NAACP is full of shit.

  • Watched this as a kid all the time. Never thought about race, just thought it was funny.

  • I'm black and I find this pretty funny. Thanks for posting this.

  • Pretty funny? This is not about racism,it is comedy, and this show is some of the best ever.Anyone that thinks different is stupid.

  • I loved watching Amos & Andy. Great comedy.

If anyone has a problem with that...I could care less!!

  • The part of Light'n was played by the great Nick Stewart. He was also cast as the voice of Brer Bear in Disneys' "Song of the South". Years later, he reprised the voice of Brer Bear for the Disney ride "Splash Mountain". He was the only original (animated) cast member still alive when the ride was created in the late '80s'.

  • AH i love famous amos' cookies they fucking ROCKKK

  • know what, you don't have to swear to get your point across....

  • I remember enjoying these as a child of the 50's... Some people are just too sensitive. These are funny and just as funny as I Love Lucy or the Beverly Hillbillys...

  • Isn't "gypped" racist?

  • its good they banned this. blacks have come so far since then. even though they are charactures, they speak better than 90% of the blacks do now, ya understand what i'm sayin?

  • The show made Andy, Kingfish and Lightning somewhat stupid characters, but the other black actors were represented as professional intelligent citizens I thought. Look, other shows have taken certain characters and made those characters stupid. Do you all think Gomer and Goober on Mayberry were fine representatives of small town rual whites? It was done to make the show funny. FUNNY! Get it now?

  • i was being sarcastic. did you read past the first line of my post? for those of you who dont understand sarcasm i will clarify; its NOT good they banned this, blacks have NOT come so far since then. i was sreious when i said they speak better than 90% of the blacks now, and ''ya understand what i'm sayin'' was an example of the black dialect that is prevelant now. get it now??

  • thats an ignorant statement you have factual evidence of the 90 percent statistics just stupidity on your part

  • thats an ignorant statement you have no factual evidence of the 90 percent statistic just stupidity on your part

  • i was giving the benefit of the doubt, it's more like 99.99%.

  • These epsisodes rock!!! LOL

  • Only Popeye can rival "Penecillin in the air, bonifried,reconcussions...". so, Popeye is racist.

  • I have been looking for this for many years for my Dad. Can anyone tell me where I can purchase the show?

  • The whole series is sold on Ebay, on DVD. Good luck and enjoy it!! Great comedy that most will never get to see. Redd Foxx said he learned most of his stuff from Tim Moore!!

  • Alagonquin J. Calhoun was one of the funniest characters ever on tv.

  • the origonal Amos and Andy in Vaudeville were two Jewish Men in Black Face,

and they were going to do the tv show but Lary Goldburg says you either get an all back cast or there no show---so they did and it was a hit...

  • no way was it a hit. the show was cancelled after half a season because it people finally realized, after seeing it on TV, how demeaning it was to African Americans.

  • That's simply not true it was a huge hit.

  • On for three years and 71 episodes

  • That's great comedy. The thin house bit is one of the funniest comedy segments that I've ever seen. I saw this years ago on a PBS discussion about A&A and I'm glad I found it here on Youtube.

  • As a black man,I don't find Amos and Andy to be any moer offensive than Sanford and Son,Good Times,Martin,or any other black comedy that followed it--I just find it very funny. Besides,if you see what passes for black entertainment these days be it movies,TV,or music,I WELCOME Amos and Andy!

  • This is a lovely show. My wife is Caribbean French and African Decent; and I am French-Lebanese. She, nor I find anything at all

    demeaning in this lovely comedy.

White people during the '50s made hilarious programs with other whites making fun of silly situations. This show was just great!

    Thanks for your comment.

  • After 60 years,I still remember this episode. The one where Andy+Kingfish move a dinerand the show where the Kingfish is drafted into the Army were really funny. The Kingfish hid in the basement and came home two days later with a chestfull of medals.

  • Kingfish gets drafted is very funny...will post that one also.

  • The house is just a facade. Like at Universal Studios in Los Angeles, California.

  • Very true, guys. I didn't mean to sound glib nor to fight any battles.

  • I'm from the South, y'know, Irish-bred white trash(with a Masters degree.) and if this is bad, then why show the Beverly Hillbillies in reruns? Thank you, hellokitty. I totally agree. It's just f'ing funny, folks. There are always cons and suckers, in every race,,,,wait, I think I Love Lucy played on that a lot. And as hometown as Andy Griffith was, well, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with those stereotypes...hmmm....

  • well said. All of the cry babies on here arent even black. theyre just guilt ridden self-loathing white people. newsflash: blacks dont need whites to fight their battles....

  • complain all you want, this show was a part of many baby boomers upbringing, and these are indeed fond memories. these dear people were the first pioneer black actors who established themselves as entertainers, and opened the doors for other black entertainers to continue.

  • Well, the Little Rascals' Farina character (Allen Hoskins) and Our Gang's "Sunshine Sammy" Ernie Morrison got paid lots more than your favorite white characters. I grew up watching this stuff and these guys were talented AND funny, however it doesn't dismiss the fact that negative stereotypes were portrayed, as much as I laughed or not. And Strangebright, nobody was lynching Beverly Hillbillies, Andy Griffin types OR Marx Brother types either.

  • true, god love em. they still existed however, and we loved it, we know better now about the cruelty of it all, but it doesn't deny its artistic achievement.

  • I agree wholeheartedly.

  • If there IS any complaint about this show, it's probably this- EVERY episode seemed to be a variation of "How does the Kingfish con gullible Andy THIS week?". No other series- radio and TV- used the same situation so successfully!

  • OK, ummm, does Abbott and Costello ring a bell?

  • Ahhh. Such a treasury of negative stereotypes.

  • Um....are you high? This scene plays pretty much the same (meaning FUNNY) as if it were the Marx Bros (oh, wait, they were Jewish, more negative stereotypes). How dare you diminish these actors' abilities you Racist jackhole?

  • No, I am quite sober, oh mighty, name-calling internet warrior. Do you deny that the Amos & Andy show played to some negative stereotypes that America has/had of African-Americans? Certainly the actors are talented, but it doesn't take away from that. Finally, on what basis do you dare to call me racist?
