i liked the walk movement but the ather two remind me more of a dog rather than a horse . . a horse has strong trot and gallop , a movement that makes you fall in love with not laught. . .
I would suggest shortening the horse's neck a bit, it looks abnormally long; but the withers look fine to me, my mother owned an appaloosa with high withers, he was a pain to ride bare back though.
Idk if the the neck it too long, but the withers are to high. A correct horse's wither should be as tall as the coup. And he's pretty swayed back...lol
Most horse games are made by people who don't, ride, work or know anything about horses. If you get someone with a true passion with horses to make a game..that game would win a grammy.
it's amazing =) walk and canter are looking amazing =) but on the trot it looks as if it has a really long neck lol :P but I still like it ;) thumbs up =). x
perhaps you can do horses for many games which are out now which are AWEFUL! I know how hard horses are to animate, my fave is the trot, the walk seems sluggish perhaps you are taking too long to make his back legs walk forward, although i do notice his rear legs are rather curved outwards. if that makes sense. overall well done!! I bet animating him made you pull out a few hairs ;)
(Continued because of char limit) Keep up the hard work, you're already better than 75% of the animators I've seen on Youtube. You've got great talent! :)
Very lovely animations. Suggestions: For the walk, his back legs need to lift off the ground sooner. Because they stay planted so long, the motion becomes noticably jerky when they finally lift. Second: During the trot, his front legs extend too far on the backswing. Start bringing them forward slightly sooner and you'll see a marked improvement. Finally, I noticed that during the run cycle his back dips very low just behind the shoulders. This is probably due to the rig, but it looks unnatural.
@MoogieSRO Much thanks for the detailed critique. Only thing is, not sure about the comment about the back legs on the walk, that may be more to do with the extension of the legs than the timing (they are a bit too far back). Still, duly noted, as well as the other two points.
The detail is very good and the mechanics are correct, but I think it looks a bit funny because the withers are so far up its neck. However, horses are difficult to get right.
I have to say, at an angle, the left back leg, is ( really ) big!! Anyways, really awsome animation!! I bet you would like making movies like, shrek for instants!!
It's so cool how you understand the horses movements and you are really close to get it perfect. You have done it better then most horse games thou ^^
other than the fact that the horse's back is really shallow, the canter should be rounded, and the muscle tone would never allow such exertion in a real horse, it would be too weak, that is AMAZING! do you have a special program or something?!?!?
Amazing animation! Just a tip from a biology standpoint: The horse's back doesn't bend when he moves. Usually their back is the move quiet part of their body. Otherwise, you're EXTREMELY talented and you should go to Hollywood! :D
this looks really cool! but, this is just an observatino do not take it personally, it looks as though the horse doesnt have a free head,.. *not meant to be rude* just an observation. i know how hard it was to make this ive tried it..... didnt turn out to well.... very good! =)
I know how hard it is to do 3D animation, but observing the movements of horses for a long time, I feel that the movement is right, but there's not enough energy. Like, the movement of the horse is too stiff.
Where's the gallop? x3

I might add the 360 is a little fast, Whilst trying to focus on the leg movements the spin is causing dizziness.

Ah, I wish I could view it in slo mo. :) The pictures blur together in the run cycle.
I have been looking for a video that shows the difference between the 3-beat canter and 4-beat gallop.

Horses run more 'in a line' than what you have here. The feet are too far apart while he runs.

I've just looked at a few cantering and trotting horses (real ones) on this site- and there's no tail flapping up and down in the cycle.
Having said that, I'm still impressed.

the walking is much better than the first video. great change between the two.
and the canter/loop thing said earlier? i think that was either just a very fast canter/loop, (what ever you want to call it) or a plain out gallop
totally jealous though. perfect animation! thanks for making these!
