  • I use this with cotton yarn and makes WONDERFUL washcloths!

  • @LadyArtemis1975 That is a great suggestion. I bet they absorb a lot of water.

  • @tjw1963 They do and they scrub very nice.

  • Well, first off I would like to say Thank You! All the videos you have posted have helped me with all my questions and I have been able to crochet without getting stuck on something. Your great a crochet! I want to make my grandmother that is dieing a blanket for her wheel chair. because she gets cold alot! She is a Christian and loves God so much! I hope to be able to put a cross on the blanket, but I need some help trying to figure out how to do that. I am young so I need some help.

    -Rachael(:

  • Hi Teresa, first of all i wanted to thank you for your videos. I am new to crocheting, but within a week, I was able to crochet 3 beanies with your help.(: My next project is to make my God daughter a baby blanket with this pattern. Can you possibly help me change the amount of chains and stitches to make a blanket with this pattern?

  • BEST WISHES AND A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

YOUR A ARTIST AND I APPRECIATE YOU SHARING YOUR ART WITH ME.

  • @directedbyhp Thank you Angela and Happy Holidays!

  • Thank you so much for this tut! Im gonna make My daughter a hello Kitty scarf using this pattern thank you thank you! Looks perfect and warm!

  • @KenzieSations This technique would be better working it all together.

  • @pinkplaidparty I think it would be better to make it in one piece.

  • Is there any way to do this with 2 colors? Thanks!

  • @brerenny Yes, you can make it with 10 colors. You will change colors each row.

  • hey teresa, i want to make this scarf but i want it to be wider. how many chains should i make ? im more than new at this!!! this is what my yarn says 50g 1oz 3/4 and the hook is 2.50mm thank you , I love your tutorials!

  • After doing the more advanced stitches, the basic ones are much easier. Thanks. :D

  • Teresa, would the basket weave make an ideal throw. I love your crochet videos

  • @itsajoke53 It would make a nice and warm throw

  • What size needle to you use for the basket weave stitch? I also am NEW to this... just browsing videos right now, but going to buy some materials... just wondered for the basket weave, what size needle?

  • @carrascudo I am using a size I/5.5mm crochet hook but you can use any size

  • Teresa, is it possible to do the basket weave stitch around a square piece? Like to just keep going around the square and some how increase in eack corner, kinda like the never ending granny. I don't like how the never ending granny is coming out, to many big holes. So I thought the basket weave stitch would be nice. But I don't know how to do the increases at the corners.

  • thank you for teaching people crochet I've learend alot from you like baby booties

and now many mothers ask me to make for theire babie

    tnks

  • i first came across basket weave when i bought the pattern for a baby blanket, i liked it so much i made another two baby blankets following the pattern. after that i used basket weave to make a blanket big enough to overlap my double bed.i made it all in one go too,not out of different coloured squares sewn together.with the whole of the blanket over me as i crocheted each row it was warm work, especially in summer.this makes such a warm material,so soft too.great video.

  • Love u! Love! Love u! Thank u soooooo much for all ur most helpful vidoes. Just one question though. I would like to make a long skirt for a 2 yr-old baby using the basketweave crochet. How many rows horizontal and vertical would u recommend? Thank u.

  • Hi Teresa, much thanks to you for posting crochet videos. I am veeeeery new to this type of crocheting. I wanna make a baby's blanket for my cousin who's now 6mo pregnant. I want to at least have it ready be4 her baby comes. I find that this video was the most helpful for me because some parts were done in slow motion. I greatly appreciated that. Keep up the wonderful work and I'll keep watching.

  • @Vlupshus Thank you very much! Congratulations to your cousin!

  • I love your lesson ^^/ You are so good in teaching :) Teresa-sensei m(_ _)m *bow*

  • @seawaterwitch Thank you! I appreciate your kind words!

  • I love you Ms. Teresa!! Because of you, I now sell hats and scarfs!!

  • @MelDovesWorld You are so kind, thank you! I wish you much success with selling your hats and scarfs.

  • What is the multiple? I get lost when there isn't any on your written instructions. Thank you :)

  • @rinnylin four is the multiple

  • hi Teresa. i just recently got back into crocheting and found your videos to be very helpful. i tried doing this basketweave scarf and have been going for more than 20 rows but now it looks too stiff for a scarf. i am using an 8-ply acrylic (Homemaker) and a size 5mm hook. i am not a beginner at crochet but i obviously don't have much knowledge on the yarns+hooks. any thoughts on this? anyway, i just want to thank you for making things easy thru your tutorials! =)

  • @dionaflor I would suggest a smaller yarn, something 4 ply and a larger crochet hook, size I/5.5mm or larger. This will make the scarf more flowing and not so stiff.

  • @tjw1963 will do. thank you!

  • I tried this method of crochet and it was incredibly awkward. I hold my crochet overhand, like a drumstick. Much faster for me.

  • @gypsyqueen64 Either way of holding the crochet hook will work.

  • if i do a chain of 44 will it work the same?

  • @mzalaineyous Yes, 44 will work. As long as you are working in increments of 4

  • wondering how I would change colors to make a two or three tone basketweave blanket?

  • you are so easy to understand. thank you

  • @pnann55 You are welcome!

  • @pnann55 hi there theresa, i just wonder if you know how to crochet a sample of raspberry stitch...i really love the pattern but don't know how to do it...thanks.

  • bellisimo, gracias

  • have to learn this, love baby blanket

  • Thanks :-)

  • very lovely. thanks for the vid

  • @occaligirl714mia You are welcome!

  • can you use that for baby as well the red heart?

  • @mecca115able There is a wide range of yarn that will work with this stitch. Yes, baby yarn will work. We can forget about brand as well and try different brands.

  • thank you so much for posting this video ive been wanting to learn how to front post and back post crochet

  • @avampiresdoll You are welcome!

  • Oh wow!! Thanks for doing the slow motion on this! I think I actually understand!!! Now to get my yarn and needle and actually TRY it! :D

  • @DebiB62 Please make a video response to this video once your project is complete.

  • @tjw1963 uhm.... I wouldn't hold your breath on that one if I were you! LOL! I've never made a video in my life!! At least not one for YouTube! I just recently got a small and very cheap model camcorder but I've not really used it yet for anything like this. It's doubtful that I could get decent shots of crochet stitching. I'm also very much a novice and can't seem to control the tension in my work; so it turns out warped. At least now I can actually see how the stitches are DONE though!

  • I always get so confused with the base chain. I can never tell if you are suppose to chain under one link or two links and nobody ever is clear about that. Can you please clarify, it looks like you are chaining under one.

  • @Kamalve I am crocheting under one which is easier. You can crochet under two, which will be neater. Both ways are correct.

  • While I enjoy your tutorials, I think the slow motion video is distracting. This is especially true since you can always rewind or fast forward the video at will.

  • Your work is absolutely incredible! But my grandmother and i are having an issue...we are both making separate blankets and each time we start, our blankets are taking a skirt form. My grandmothers chain is very loose and its still taking this form, mine is tight and yet is still making the skirt form. They are both a simple double crochet pattern. Do you have any idea as to what's going on with our blankets?

  • @isamarie94 What happens is when the chain is to loose or to tight, this will restrict the work at the bottom so it will expand as you are progressing. The same is true when you start off to loose, your work may get progressively tighter. You need to compensate by using a larger crochet hook if it starts off to tight., then go back to the smaller size for the rest of your work. With the looser chain, try making it tighter or use a smaller crochet hook.

  • This stitch was fun to make. I was crocheting along with you. It makes the work puffy and thick, nice stitch for a warm project. Thank you.

  • @WarisitaBoricua You are welcome! I appreciate the comment.

  • You are such a magician - Thanks !!!!

  • @cbinsento You are welcome!

  • I'm expecting my first son in May.. I love your work! You're a wonderful teacher! I want to make a baby blanket out of this design, how many chains should I make in the beginning?I can't firgure out what the right length should be since I'm new to crocheting.

  • @vbautista87 Congratulations on the expected baby! I will estimate a chain of 135-155.

  • can you make this whole scarf with one skein of yarn?

  • @Alibidancer929 It will probably take more than one skein.

  • AWESOME IDEA TO USE SLO-MO

  • I love your videos. They are so simple and easy. Really great! This is what youtube is about just sharing your talent. Thanks so much!

  • @dsb188 Thank you! I have a great time making crochet video tutorials.

  • I just recently found crocheting as "my thing" and I want to thank you for all your super helpful videos, they are the best I've seen on youtube =] and you have taught me a lot.

I've already made some hats, scarves and amigurumi

..I do want to say this, in this particular video your hands seem to go too fast for the camera and end up blurring, kind of distracting =[

  • You are a great teacher, so easy to watch a follow and unlike many you show how to begin the project. I have also not crocheted for a long time and decided to have a go and make a hot water bottle cover for an elderly lady for a christmas gift and now everyone wants one, even my teenage daughter! There are some fab wools out there and I am loving your designs. I have even had a go at making some flowers to add to the front of my covers! Leaves next....

  • Hi love your video's, i haven't crocheted in a long time i want to make blanket for the back of the couch as a gift, can you tell me if this will make a nice pattern in an onbray sp. i need something really simple, i ordered 4 big ball yarn by bernat, made by lilly. how many stitches do i start with for a good width. and do you think this will be enough each is 630 yards. or can you suggest if i need something easier. i need it for Christmas, hopefully this Christmas lol, thanks so much

  • I like this pattern and I think it could be a men's scarf, could it? If not, do you have any pattern for a men's scarf? Thanks and as always, I love your work.

  • @emelydr This would make a nice masculine scarf!

  • Oh snap. That was just. D:

Gah. I need like. a BEGINERBEGINERNOOBBEGINER Course. :(

  • you work is flawless and I am learning a lot form you .....thankyou so much..

  • @asmaMs20 I appreciate the comment! :)

  • Completed 2 blankets they look beautiful! What woukd you recommend as a border to finish it off?

  • @Kaiseih You could do a single crochet or reverse single crochet edging.

  • Can you use this stitch for a hat as well??

  • Can you make a hat with this stitch???

  • @javajoe415 Yes, you can make a hat. I have a tutorial with this stitch and will forward the link to you.

  • @tjw1963 Thanks!

  • I LOVE this I am trying to make a baby blanket for my new grandbaby. I have a problem at the ends it always seems uneven. Any suggestions? It seems as though I am dropping stitches. How many shoukd I do for a blanket ? Thanks!!

  • @Kaiseih I suggest you count your stitches so the edges remain even on each row. I would estimate a chain of 200 to start. You can always adjust if you find it is to long or to short.

  • thanks for helping me understand fpdc and bpdc! watching your videos explained it better then pictures could!

  • Ok,this basketweave idea is great but Iam trying the 1st row front post and the 2nd row back post and it's turning out beautiful and it's faster to work with too...I think I'll try your idea on a blanket!!

  • Do you have a video for a crochet baby cocoon ??? I really want to know how to make one !!!

  • Thank you so much you are amazing. I really like that you show it in slow motion. Thaaaank you!!!

  • Teresa thanks for the videos I crochet a lot but have never tried some stitches cause I thought they were complicated, your videos make them look easy. Thanks and keep them coming.

  • This is my next project. Your tutorials are just fantastic. Thanks from London!

  • @pptexts You are welcome. I appreciate the comment.

  • can the basketwave make onto a blanket????

  • @iheartdanceplusstar Yes, you can make a blanket.

  • Iheart dancer, Hello !! I made these into 8 X 8 squares and made a lap blanket, it turned out really well and was so fun to make. Good luck with your project.

  • @iheartdanceplusstar

I did an 8 X 8 squares blanket, it turned out really well. good luck with your project.

  • This is a fantastic video!!! I have been searching for this stich all morning. I made an afghan before from this stich and forgot the technique. Thank you so much for posting this. I have saved it to my facebook page so I will always have it. Your instructions are clear and easy to follow. I will check back often.

  • Teresa, you are absolutely the greatest!

  • I have made a bunch of 6in basket weave granny squares, how would you suggest to crochet a border to connect for an afghan?

  • @mbowlin33 You can work single crochet for a border. When you get to the corners, you will want to work 3 single crochet for the increase. This will allow your squares to lay flat as you are making the square.

  • @tjw1963 hey teresa! when doing a border-on the sides-would you do 2 or 3 stitches in the side stitches? i know you'd do 1 of course in the top and bottom. thanks!

  • Oh man, you saved me so much frustration. I love this visual effect to crochet. The more I did the stitch the more confused I got. Watching your video explained and answered my questions, it is always FPDC in the beginning, BPDC always. THANKS again.

  • You hold the hook and yarn just like I do! :) Thanks for your videos!

  • This is so cool!! Thanks so much for these videos, they're a real help.

  • This is a truly beautiful pattern. I bet it would be great for a throw?

  • Love the slow motion stitches.

  • @MsCarmenb Thank you. :)

  • I just moved to Ecuador and need a hobby. I haven't crocheted in about 25 years, but after watching your videos, I can't wait to get started again! Your videos are really easy to follow. Thanks!!

  • @tresakon You are welcome.

  • love your video...

  • @toopangel Thank you.

  • Is is possible to use this technique to do a 'mock' cable effect? I would guess if I shifted the front post/back post over one each row, it might work?

I LOVE your videos, you taught a lefty to crochet after I don't know how many years of wanting to, but never having anyone able to teach me! Your videos are fantastic.

  • how do you change colors or add a new skein of yarn without messing up the shape/ends??

  • If I used 2 colours could I only do colour changes in different rows or could I have the vertical lines (of the basketweave) in one colour and the horizontal ones in the other one? Do you know what I mean? Would appreciate your help! Greetz

  • @trillajenn You can do color changes.

  • Do you know how much yarn is needed to do a queen blanket with this stitch? Thank you for teaching me everything I know!

  • @livefastanddieyoung I would estimate 20-30 skeins of yarn. This stitch will use more yarn. It is always better to have to much than not enough.

  • thanks for your great videos! Well done and easy to follow....and great that you have done some for us left handed folks---please continue to show the left-y version too.

    Much appreciated.... :)

  • @Cshellz58 Thank you. :)

  • EXCELLENT. VERY THANKS.

  • @krmyna1 You are welcome. :)

  • first of all thxs for your videos. I've learned sooo much, more than i thought possible (in 2 weeks) but im having problems with the edges of this scarf.

I've watched this video like 20 times and still don't get it. I noticed that one edge is straight and the other isn't. well i can't seem to get one of the edges straight. I've been trying for 2 days and can't do it maybe you can tell me what i'm doing wrong. sorry if I'm not making sense, it's hard to explain

thxs for any help you can give

  • @loca10922 You do have the option of making an edging of single crochet along each edge to cover up the stitches if they do not look right. It does take some practice to make sure that your stitches are aligned. Sometimes if the count is off the edges may not seem straight.

  • Hi Teresa! Im planning to make a basket wave blanket for my baby. How many chains should i start with ? I tried making 112 double crochet ... im not getting it right though

Can you please help me :)

    thanks

    thanks

  • This is my favorite crochet stitch ~ I've made about 3 afghans so far. The only thing about it is that it's a yarn hog....takes twice as much but is sure worth the effort. The end result is a rich pattern and it's very cozy.

    Thank you for the vid

    ~phoebe

  • Thank you for this video. I never knew how to make the basket weave stich and now I do. I had the square done and I'm going to keep on going till I have enough for a scarf. I used dark blue color and it's going to be a scarf for my nephew for this winter. Thanks again, you are the best teacher.

  • @emelydr Thank you.

  • thank you ka....

  • This makes it so easy! Thanks!!!

  • Thank you for the new stich that I learned today... You are awesome!

  • @TheMissyfiona You are welcome.

  • very ggggoooooodddd! mwah, will definately try this.

  • Can you replace the double crochet with any other stand alone stitch such as treble crochet or extended double crochet ect.?

  • @m828502 You can replace the double crochet with the triple crochet, single crochet or half double crochet and use them as post stitches.

  • Omg Thank you so much for posting this. It's the best ever!!!!

  • @mineagain Thank you.

  • @tjw1963 You are very welcome. I made a scarf with this .

  • Cool pattern! Im going to try this! Thank you for all of your videos! They are all very helpful and I'm learning to crochet!

  • hi Teresa how many chains would you use to crochet a throw???

  • @eldergreg I am estimating around 175-225.

  • شكراً جزيلاً

  • Thank you for sharing! This is such a cool pattern!

  • At first this was tricky, but once I got the feel of it, I was getting better. Thank you so much, I am learning a lot from you.

  • is there a video for a basket weave scarf if not how many chains needed to make scarf ??

  • I want to use this patter to make blanket not baby blanket. How many chains do i need and would came out just like you show us? thank you so much. You are a great teacher.

  • thank u for sharing..i know how to do SOME crocheting, but, i REALLY want to teach my daughter- its hard for me to word the steps. your video is nice, i have 2 check out your others too. NICE! my daughter can learn on here now;) thanks

  • it always starts and ends with front post? youre awesome! thanx :)

  • this is a great pattern just wondering if you could make a blanket in this pattern? would your starting chain need to be longer?? i was wanting a baby blanket

  • A baby blanket would be around 125-150 chains.

  • You are welcome.

  • Thank you so much Teresa! I made this into a scarf and it was AMAZING! I'm on to conquer the hat for my boyfriend now.

  • You are welcome.

  • Teresa, thanks for sharing this video. I love your work. I have a quick question... when you get to the end of the row, do you chain 1, turn, then chain 1 at the beginning of the next row?

  • There is only one chain 1 at the end or beginning of each row. I like to use the chain 1 as the step up to the next row, then I work full stitches instead of the typical chain. The chain 3 can look sloppy and leave gaps and holes.

  • can i do this instead of double crochet, can i do triple crochet??? plz plz plz reply back, i need to know. U r the crocheting queen. that is why i asked u, lol

  • I have watched so many of your videos and this is the only one I can do as of now. I'm super excited that I have FINALLY moved beyond the single and doulble stitch. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

  • You are welcome. I appreciate the comment.

  • How would you make a baby blanket?would you do a whole lot of single chains (saw 100 or 125)to start or would you do squares and sew them together? The more help the better. thanks so much!

  • I have tried for years to crochet patterns other than sc and dc and understand them and I haven't been able to. watching your videos has been the best way to learn and I just wanted to thank you for all of your videos! I have referred so many people to you because I have been getting so many compliments and it is all thanks to you! Thanks so much!!!

  • this video is perfect. thank you

  • Thank you for all your videos.

I'm so glad I found your site. I love trying new stitches and watching your videos makes it so much easier than trying to read a pattern.

  • You are welcome. I appreciate the comment.

  • i crochet alot at work, i have used this stitch making placemats.I may use it next to make an afghan for this really cute trucker that comes to my job site alot.

  • That will be one way to catch the "cute trucker's" attention. Good luck with that if you make him an afghan.

  • I'm thinking of trying this stitch for a simple rectange shawl. What do you think?

Im hooked on your great vieos!

  • It will work up as a heavy stitch, so if that is what you are looking for it will work well.

  • Thanks Teresa!. As usual it is a great video which has given me some great ideas. I sure do appreciate them. Keep them coming. Thanks again.

  • You are welcome.

  • Teresa by using your instructions, I have made twenty or so scarves doing the basketweave stitch. Eventhough your video is done right-handed, I crocheted them with my left hand. Thanks! Good Job Well Done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you.

  • BEAUTIFULL
