ive had a h2 for 2 years and got 10 minutes out of it, It has never worked according to the instructions. mine would only work on mains if i have batterys in it to start with, thats odd to start with , then the unit started to get really hot only with the batterys in it. and had to take out the batterys. now it just sits there as nothing works on my shelf of crappy bits it is a piece of shite for what you pay, the idea was good but they got the chiniese to make it, big mistake zoom
There are problems, if you mean using external mic, I have experinced that it makes background noise, like sshhh-sound (I don't know the excact English term for this).
the h2 makes recordings from cassette players or vinyls as well: they are brilliant and if they have some scratching you can try different programs to let it disappear.
I can thoroughly recommend this wonderful and inexpensive gadget. I bought one about five months ago and record live gigs for bands and piano recitals at a local church - the results from the onboard mics are amazing, and I've just bought some pro mics that I can plug in - the tests on which are truly excellent also. I've got lots of technology that's ended up in the junk draw over the years - but this will never do so!
I used this last night; drummer with the biggest kit I've ever seen, keys, lead electric guitar on an amp, electric bass thru an amp, and me on acoustic/vocals thru a mixer/cab. We were all packed in a room pretty tight (15'x15') and the results were AMAZING!
Granted, I've never recorded with a 'mini-recorder' like this before but I was stunned with the results. We recorded exclusively through it's 'over-the-air' mic -= no direct inputs. The unit was placed about as far from the amps/cab's as it could have been and still, great results. I was between my cab's and the unit, and I heard myself better on the recording than I could live! I'm buying one - period!
everybody praises this thing in how good it records live but what about multitracking, i notice it has a 1/8 input for a mic (unless you go to a mixer) how can i plug my gtr, bss etc?
I think the H4 or H4n is best for your concerns to be addressed. I play piano so I don't have this problem but I've researched recorders and this is what I found. I am expecting an H2 in the mail within the next day or so to use for composition rehearsals. Hope this helps.
For the stuff I use it for, it works out brilliantly. It's beautiful. No mic hiss. It does have handling noise but that's just because of how much of a preamp the mic has. I'm a music composition/technology student and I record a lot of live music and lectures. I also do a lot of file encoding and sound stuff. It works extremely well.
buy an adapter that converts the larger size to the smaller one. i use one to plug my bass and guitar into my computer's line in port. costs around 5$ at almost any music store

Completely agree. If you're having a junk draw, however, can I have a ticket?

We use them at my school for taping radio shows at the malls, plazas, etc. The are very good, I think.
