It seems like many of these commenters don't care about their food. Cheap is NOT better. When I was growing up we spent 1/4 of our income on food. Now, people want to spend 10%. I would rather rent my house or buy one with less room and eat good food instead--organic, field fed, humane ranchers and farmers. What is more important than what we put into our (and our children's) bodies? We need to think systemically and not just for today. Garbage in garbage out.

Also, CAFO does not derive from people eating animal foods. It derives from greed and shortsightedness. And good luck healing the biosphere if people stop eating animals. You cannot solve deforestation or global warming by plowing land for tofu. You do not have to plow land to raise cattle. Period. By the way our overall meat consumption has barely risen since 1974. Grain is the centerpiece of our meal, not meat.

Make your money some other way, work for a living for once. And if you would like to explain to the class why all that carbon from oil being added to the biosphere's carbon cycle is not going to affect the climate, we're all ears.

The people who live near CAFOs want to be left alone and have their freedom from its pollution. The rest of us want the freedom to not have to subsidize your food choices (they all come from corn) or your medical bills later.

@baddogonline I am curious as to where the truth is in your opposing view? I don't see any logical arguments in your post. Unlike you I have actually lived near these operations and know the truth. Unlike you I have reviewed the studies that show the negative effects of this approach to industrial agriculture and find them worthy of concern. Personally I think you are probably just a troll.
