@funkycatglasses01 No problem ;) oh, yes, it must have been scary. I remember I had a drawing of this kind of a doctor in a book when I was a child and this person always seemed very scary and almost like demonic for me, so I don't think I'm ever going to forget about the plague doctors.
Suits the dance of death, I think, because they didn't usually succeed in curing their patients from the plague.
@maskaradka Ibelieve the 'duck's bill' over the doctor's mouth was full of sweet-smelling herbs. This was when they thought disease was carried by bad odours ('malaria'). So a sweet odour would 'protect' the doctor from catching whatever the patient had. I wonder if this was where the name of 'Quack' for doctor came from?
Also probable is the descent from "Quecksilber" (mercury) as in early modern age mercury salves or mercury plastesr were traded, for example, as a cure against (excuse my bad english)
@OstrogothRome Dude, stop spamming this already. It was an interesting idea, worthy of discussion at first, but now it's just obsessive zealotry.
If you're not going to do anything besides moan and groan, shut up. This world doesn't need more apathetic doomspeakers.
If I must enter the Dance of Death, I will dance with fire in my heart and a smile on my lips. Anything less would be an insult to Death, as well as this brilliant piece of music.
@WTFAANU Death comes to all men; death is the ulltimate democracy. If Death could vote here, what would She (for death is silent, mysterioius, efficient, dark, sometimes lingering, but then suddenly swift - surely a Gothess if ever there was one - yes what comment would She vote for. I shall watch our respective votes with interest, my dark friend.
@OstrogothRome What death wants is kind of irrelevant. Ask any old fellow who's had a rough but fulfilling life-they aren't afraid of death in the slightest, nor do they court it on an active basis. They know a truth that most of us don't.
Y'see, most don't realize how powerful Choice is. I associate with nurses, soldiers and priests, and all groups-the three groups most involved with the final processes of death-agree that many people have avoided unnecessary Death simply by choosing to.

@OstrogothRome I think you are being overly cynical. A significant number of people will wake up and realize what they are capable of before that happens.
However, you are partially correct; there will almost certainly be a time-soon-when the Danse Macabre comes to the fore. It just won't be as all-consuming as you predict.
People are good at sorting immediate problems with short-term fixes, but uderlying structural issues take longer and are more painful. Short-term, we can jack up food production more with unsustainable fixes like energy-intense technologies,and population will continue to grow to meet the new food production levels. BUT when we pass peak oil, the rich will grab the last few resources as long as they can, and we're all in for a rough decade or three.
@OstrogothRome Would it then be accurate to say that you believe there is an oncoming period of near- or total anarchy caused by society's unsustainable lifestyle as a group?
@WTFAANU Very possibly, unless an informed piublic and a more-than-usually publically spirited body politic starts taking action soon (I don't pretend to know what all actions required might be). Our problems might begin financially, not resource-wise, e.g. with a further collapse in consumer confidence, much reduced borriwing, collapse in asset prices (so less oil etc sourced), decline in jobs and salaries, then less money for the poor, productivity falls, less resouces for all...
@OstrogothRome I think that there are more of those informed public fellows than you might think. I can think of many of the top of my head-distant family, friends, acquaintances-who have spent the last few years stocking up on survival supplies. And no matter what you think of the Tea Parties, they show that a massive number of people realize what is wrong, even if they aren't quite sure what to do about it. The body politic is starting to improve too, thanks to folks like the New Jersey sen
@OstrogothRome As for what to do about it, I have an idea;
Today's online culture is teaching people that there are no real consequences. Because of the massive number of ways we can hide/lie about information, and the increasing number of things that are automated (which shouldn't be), people have gotten used to the (foolish) idea that they can eliminate the risk and annoyance from their lives.
The answer is simple; start eliminating various "safety" laws, like speed bumps and Z-T schools.
@OstrogothRome It will cause a lot of tension at first, but more quickly than you might think, a significant number of people will realize (gasp!) that they, and they alone, are the only ones who can keep themselves safe. Soon after that, they will realize the best way to do so is teamwork.
It's all about ruining the "Lazy is Good" attitude America has created. No-one can honestly argue that a large piece of modern America's culture and rules create an environment where stupidity thrives.
@OstrogothRome - Beautiful pose and you I fear are close to the truth. Things cannot keep going the way they are going. Our planet is being mismanaged by psychopaths. Problem is - most people are so dependant on our "technology" they wouldn't know how to grow their own food, tend to animals and make their own clothes.
@OstrogothRome - look @ us - we SHELL them !!! I know what you mean, but everything counce!!! But this is not the meaning of the song. This is very difficult to explain this song in english - excuse me.
Reality TV is schon was Feines...
'La danza de la muerte' isn't the same that 'dance of the dead'. 'Muerte' means 'death'. 'Dead' in Castillian (Spanish doesn't exists.. common error of almost everybody) is 'muerto'. Or 'muertos' in plural if you like. Quite different meaning.

Those are the three herbs in agony
For all pharmacists and doctors.
It's about the black plague.

Thanks for this, yes I did write it, also this...
Years pass, and people come once more, but not to sell and not to buy,
Not to give but only take, to take from empty streets and fallen houses,
Travellers come to stare at empty places, their uses long forgotten,
But as you pass and stare as well, so ponder this,
Will those travellers come again one day,
And gaze this way upon your city too?

@OstrogothRome An empty town, deep in the Arabian Desert dust,
Its sand filled streets once full of love and hate, of deep romance and shallow greed,
Streets once full of sound, now mute witness to what might have been,
The money changers now all are gone, but time’s changes carry on regardless,
Love’s serenades no longer fill its lanes, but the desert sands whistle on forever

@OstrogothRome I think you are being overly cynical. A significant number of people will wake up and realize what they are capable of before that happens.
However, you are partially correct; there will almost certainly be a time-soon-when the Danse Macabre comes to the fore. It just won't be as all-consuming as you predict.

@WTFAANU
OstrogothRome 1 year ago
@OstrogothRome Would it then be accurate to say that you believe there is an oncoming period of near- or total anarchy caused by society's unsustainable lifestyle as a group?
WTFAANU 1 year ago
@WTFAANU Very possibly, unless an informed piublic and a more-than-usually publically spirited body politic starts taking action soon (I don't pretend to know what all actions required might be). Our problems might begin financially, not resource-wise, e.g. with a further collapse in consumer confidence, much reduced borriwing, collapse in asset prices (so less oil etc sourced), decline in jobs and salaries, then less money for the poor, productivity falls, less resouces for all...
OstrogothRome 1 year ago
@OstrogothRome I think that there are more of those informed public fellows than you might think. I can think of many of the top of my head-distant family, friends, acquaintances-who have spent the last few years stocking up on survival supplies. And no matter what you think of the Tea Parties, they show that a massive number of people realize what is wrong, even if they aren't quite sure what to do about it. The body politic is starting to improve too, thanks to folks like the New Jersey sen

@OstrogothRome As for what to do about it, I have an idea;
WTFAANU 1 year ago

Problem is - most people are so dependant on our "technology" they wouldn't know how to grow their own food, tend to animals and make their own clothes.

bone184c0915 1 year ago
@bone184c0915 Yup - klar doch.

phil23m 1 year ago
@phil23m
Reality TV is schon was Feines...
MFG

'La danza de la muerte' isn't the same that 'dance of the dead'. 'Muerte' means 'death'. 'Dead' in Castillian (Spanish doesn't exists.. common error of almost everybody) is 'muerto'. Or 'muertos' in plural if you like. Quite different meaning.
Saludos =)
