This is a stupid test. No one is going to drive 30 miles an hour down a road full of speedbumps because lets face it, no one takes these trucks offroad. The same thing can be said for a road of rocks or other things.
Sorry Gephrey but anyone who lives off the beaten path would drive one roads as suck or similar. Thats what a truck it SUPPOSED to do. Its sposed to have the shit beaten out of it. It's supposed to take abuse and not give a shit. That's what ford makes.
First off you know that Ford is going to be the best in this vid because Ford is the one doing the comparison, and in the tundras defense the chassis was designed to flex. And also come on who in there right mind would actually be driving that fast on a road like that. I'm not biast I just like a well built vehicle and I've driven plenty but in my book the tundra is the most durable.
@Gephrey88 they invite the others to test as well, the toyota is inferior, plain and simple. look at the truth about trucks. it isnt trick photagraphy when the structure just isnt there for the toy
Toyota is nothing special like most Jap fans make them out to be. I have driven plenty of them, and to be honest, they are nothing special. Only absent minded goons refuse to believe in the advancement of any other auto manufacturer other than their own. Ford is one of the best auto manufacturers to buy from. It takes an unbiased car buyer to notice the advancement ford has made with their new ultra efficient ecoboost engines and to their new sync and my ford touch interface, and the quality.
come on now guys. since when do people drive trucks in this scenario in the real world? thats pretty much driving a truck on humps on a motorcross track AT 30 MPH. and i bet ford tweaked the suspension in this scenario. GO CHEVY!
the new toyota trucks arent as good as the old ones... the old ones you can add more stuff and it is lighter than the new toyota trucks.... the new yota trucks has the long heavy bed frames hich is no good for off road like rock climbing, the other trucks dont stand a chance against the old toyota trucks
The tundra is a toy the toyota hilux is the proper truck. Jap cars imported to the US are shitty, the EU and Japan domestic market ones are much better
that is not real driving conditions, 25mph! only a idiot drives like so, not even on a 100 acre construction site will there be roads like such if so project manager should be fired immediatly driveing like that results in reckless driving, driving to endanger type of traffic ticket loss of licience real driving conditions means real life situations not video editing ....
Toyota makes cheap overpriced garbage when it comes to trucks. Toyota started making the midsize Tundra in like 1999 and it gets roasted every time it competes with ford. Noone wants a truck that gets recalled all the time because its built like everything else that comes from fuckin china(half ass)
@Fx4Ranger2002 tard at list toyota makes fuckin recales and its willing to fix it but ford / chevy / and the rest will not tell u shit and u at your own
@grego10r Ford and GM just arent as cheap and accident prone thats all. Its just attractive looking import junk. Ever wonder why they only use Fords and Chevys as contruction site trucks, company trucks, or cop cars? Because Toyota along with all the other knockoff Japanese junk is horrible quality and cant take a beating peroid. Toyota trucks are flimsy and made from the cheapest shit on the market. Toyota trucks would simply fall apart under harsh use.
@Fx4Ranger2002 You're an idiot. Toyota Tundras/Tacomas aren't used HERE in AMERICA because they are JAPANESE. The Japanese cars that we import are FAR superior to any American piece of junk you can buy. I traded in my BMW for a Lexus. It's slightly better than German cars, even.
@VhUgGz So your saying, all imported toyota products are far superior than any american made vehicle? If they are all superior then why aren't we all driving a toyota product? If they are far more superior, then why do all tests put the tundra in last place Vs domestic pickup trucks? Why are 90% of work trucks on the us domestic?Take this video as one example. I have driven plenty of toyotas and to be honest, its nothing most owners make it out to be. They arent bad, but they're nothing special.
@chorstma44 Most of us are. The tests don't put them in last place. It was rated highest in overall dependability. Obviously, in the US, a majority of trucks will be American. In Japan, a majority of trucks are Japanese. Very few Japanese trucks are even available in America. Most Japanese cars are sedans, economy cars and sports cars. And while they aren't the best, nor are they anything exciting, they are better designed than anything America has made in a LONG time.
@VhUgGz My problem is how biased and hard headed most toyota owners are. They have driven toyotas their whole life and yet they bash on cars they haven't even been in or driven. I have driven mostly fords all of my life, obviously I am a fan of ford, but that doesn't mean every other company is junk. I'm just not a biased idiot and I give everybody a chance. But I have seen most toyota owners bash anything american, and refuse to believe anything negative about toyota, even recalls.
Flex is needed. Try to do a Magnetic particle testing on that Ford the best performer out of the three, I bet there is a 85% percent chance of hairline cracks on the welds, bolts bent or overstressed. Too much stiffness will break at some point. So basically its flex against snap.
if people would buy american made vehicles then we wouldnt have a big problem with the automotive industry. And just because its assembled in america all that money you spend on a honda, toyota, kia, or any other foriegn car gets shipped back over seas. i dont care if its chevy, dodge or ford just purchase american cars and if u buy a foreign car please keep your mouth shut about the economy.
After watching this, Google "Ford Raptor Frame Problem" to see real Ford quality. Lots of information and photos. Then make you decision on who is best.
It all has to do with the natural frequency of the trucks, they are all different and ford probably found a speed where their truck looks awesome and the others look like crap. With a different speed this could be a completely reversed situation.
@bitely450 Clearly you know something about theory of vibrations....unlike some on here. You are exactly right -- every truck has several harmonics where it will want to resonate and other frequencies where it has very low excursion. It would be trivial to find both the resonant frequencies AND the "quiet" frequencies for each of 3 different trucks.
@bitely450 You are also correct that any company could choose a frequency (a road speed in this case) where the forcing function does not match a harmonic for their truck, but causes the competitor to resonate. This could make their truck look good, and their competitors look bad. The only way to take that out of the equation is to test the entire spectrum of vibrations on all 3 trucks, which is not what is going on here.
My former boss used to talk up toyotas so hard, and we would have to explain to him how wrong he was and how bad of trucks they really are. Well he was able to see how right we were first hand when he throw a 50 lbs bag of dog food into the bed of his tacoma and snapped the frame in half. Needless to say both toyota and nissan know little about building trucks, if you want a truck stick with the big 3, they've been making trucks for a long time and know what they're doing.
anyone who brings up that stupid shit on top gear needs to come back to reality ..like i said to fenderstratguy,,,if you believe that top gear stuff then all of those stunts done with the charger on the dukes of hazzard all threw the years was also done with just one charger in the 6 or 8 years that show was on tv..if that toyota was so dam good..then why didnt they put it [UNDER] that building instead of on top??????
@corvetteboy10 was done at a ford proving ground the chevy used had different susp installed then what comes factory i know one of the guys that was on set lmao he told me the whole speil , dk about the tundra tho
and would never talk bad on a company that has made such a huge change that ford has done over the last five years. Both great made trucks and honestly im open to wich ever one has the best price and features. Cant say the same for chevy or dodge as of right now.
my 2007 tundra double cab limited 4x4 did have bad bed bounce. Toyota released a service bullitin to fix the problem free of charge. Being a skeptic I turned it into the dealsership for the fix. What a great improvement! im not going to say the bed bounce is gone because that is impossible on any truck under harsh road conditions but i will say its improved the ride 100% I owned a 2004 ford f150 wich was a great truck but i have to say the tundra wins hands down. i will always like ford trucks
The flex on the bed on the Tundra doesn't mean it has a weak frame. The frame on the Tundra is almost build like the 18wheelers. if you drove the 18 wheelers without a trailer on them they bounce on the rear Like the Tundra.
@blam7, 18 wheelers use open frames like the toyota. however 18wheeler frams are made out of 1/2 to 1/3 inch steel. toyota uses stamped sheet metal (1/8 inch thick) BIG DIFFERENCE. why not have a firmer frame of an f150. its rated to tow 11,500 lbs (3.5 V6 21MPG) thats 1,500 more then the tundra (5.7 V8 16MPG) and it drives much better. Plus you dont need to worry about takeing it in for recalles every month like the drive shaft joint failing or frame crossmembers popping out of the frame.
@123abcpa Recalls every month? Even if that's true, the recalls were almost always because of American-made parts, including ones made by Ford and GM.
Vibrating objects have natural harmonics and I believe it would be possible to vary the speed here and make any of the three trucks apparently "win." It's just a mechanics of vibrations problem. It is also possible to optimize a vehicle's design for a certain course or test track.
hello kids..i see alot of debate on this and read alot of the comments..well just look at it this way ...does ford chevy or dodge really have to prove them selfs?..the big3 have been making trucks longer then toyota is in business ..and help built this country and the very roads you drive on ,,i think the very long history of the big 3's trucks is proof enuff , while toyota are mainly used for getting plastic lawn furniture at walmart. or delivering flowers
@390merc65 Well well well... been awhile friend. the big 3 dont have to prove themselves, as toyota has once again proven themselves superior. Turns out, the next generation Tundra wont even use fossil fuel. You will get in and put a hat on that is hooked to the truck and it runs off your own sense of self-satisfaction! Also, the next transformers movie will see Optimus Prime being changed from a Peterbuilt to a Tundra. He will then single handedly beat down all the bad guys.
@benchn280 hiya buddy..for a while i thought i was on my own here..glad to see you can put your 2 cents in
i think you are correct..i hear rumors of that floating around the water cooler.i also heard toyota is such a good sport that from now on in the future toyota will honor all car manufactures recalls , including ford GM and mopar and honda brand vehicles and also Mercedes & BMW ..i also hear the next presidential limo will be a camry ,,bullet proof of coarse , and parking assist
@390merc65 lol nah Ill never leave this place! Yea I heard about how they are going to honor other manufacturers recalls. Now that is called being the better man!
@benchn280 yes it is..and next year toyota will build a rocket out of a lightly modified camry for nasa to not only go to the moon..but beyond to pluto ..and back all on a gallon of regular gas..and thats with the a/c on
...toyota was reported saying the mods to the camry only will cost an additional $100.00 ..and parts can be bought at lowes but they did not mention what parts are needed ..lol
@benchn280 ..you not only laugh in the face of me , but you also laugh in the face's of the highly educated , engineering staff at toyota not funny MR.....not funny at all...dont you read all of these posts were ppl are constantly reminding not only you , but me as well of how toyota came to this country and have hired trillions and trillions of hard working non union americans?,,and this is just in texas ..lol.
@benchn280 hey if you want to read some good dirt on toyota ,,read [ the toyota you dont know]..and see all the crap and lie's toyota does ,,,and how they are being investigated on slave labor and how some employs died from being forced to work 14 ..or more hours a day ...so if you have some time ti kill.just google that and read some..it will open your eyes even more...
Notice how they didn't give the same views on the Ford. And when they showed it from behind, it only only quickly, they didn't linger as long on the Ford. Also, when talking about the box movement and showing it at the cab, they didn't show as good a view and you couldn't tell at all whether it was moving or not.
That said, the Toyota was terrible. I'd say it's a toss-up with the GM and the Ford. Overal, the GM's a better truck.
Them where prolly the only three trucks that could take the test and actually hold up to it, dodge prolly broke to f*** down trying to take the test, but when it all boils down to it if you want a dependable truck Ford, Dodge, Chevy...etc, build it yourself.
Every machine will deflect more or less depending on speed ,guess what speed they chose?Thing is you never ever see Japan shit on other manufactures product ,and that is how you tell if a product is good ,it will speak for itself.
@fenderstratguy I think we can agree that an old model Toyota Hilux is built in a completely different world than a Toyota Tundra... Little toyota trucks have been built for years as well, the tacoma is a good truck, but when it comes to a full size working truck... they've been at it for 12 years... compare that to Ford or Chevy's record of almost 80 years
@Jmcconn110 "the tacoma is a good truck, but when it comes to a full size working truck... they've been at it for 12 years... compare that to Ford or Chevy's record of almost 80 years" I didn't know you got extra points for buying a truck made for 80 years.
@fenderstratguy That was a Hilux, this is a Tundra. lol, I admit that did impress me, but I bet they could do all that with an old F-150 and it would hold up just fine...
The fact that production of the TRUE Toyota Hilux ended over 20 years ago makes any point your trying to make completely irrelevant. This is a review of current production vehicles. I'd love the own a old hilux but the fact of the matter is (at least in the northern united states) you can't find one oem that is still drivable. If you do, they have had extensive frame repairs by a shade tree mechanic that was stupid enough to waste his time, money, and energy on it.
@evhkrmer5150 It's no more irrelevant than the majority of comments on this thread saying Ford and Chevy have been building full size trucks for years and years. I don't care which truck one someone likes better, one way or the other. I'm just pointing out that some of the logic on this thread is weak and you can hardly argue it's not.
".... I'm just pointing out that some of the logic on this thread is weak and you can hardly argue it's not."
I was not responding the video or thread in general. I was responding to your comment in specific retrospect. Whats the goal of "pointing out some of the logic on this thread", when your not even going to specifically respond to a stated opinion and argument. Why???
@evhkrmer5150 My comment asked if the poster thought Toyotas were crap, and gave a specific evidence that at least one model was quite impressive. You decided to call that point irrelevant, based on the age of the product I cited; that this is a review of current production vehicles. You disliked my response that not everyone seems to look at it that way
@evhkrmer5150 Fine. Here you go. I suspect Toyota could design an identical-looking course tuned to the harmonics of the frames they build, that would show minimal excursion for their truck body, but energize both the Chevy and the Ford. It's just basic theory of vibrations. All 3 makes are going to have different natural harmonics. Carefully choosing the frequency of the input will affect how the frames respond.
@sidescrollin not all americans are fat,,or lazy ,,or red necks cuzz they own a truck..lets be real here..toyotas suck...the only job site you will see a toyota on is parked out front of a flower shop
@fenderstratguy you dont really believe that on top gear do you?..if you do then you must also believe that the whole time the dukes of hazzard were on tv that they only ever used one charger all that time with all of those stunts
@fenderstratguy well buddy that toyota is the fucking beast i agree...i had a tundra and that car is a complete piece of shit...so i sold it and bought a ford f150 and im way happier...no offence but try them first so u can tell the difference
@fenderstratguy Did you ever hear of not resting on past successes? Plus, that was a Hilux 4 cyl diesel, the most simple truck you can buy. But, you would never want it as a daily driver. This is a Tundra, totally different animal. Besides for GM and Ford, no truck is a true truck anymore. They are all cars with truck bodies. Example being the nauseating Honda Ridgeline, the most useless and ugly... thing ever invented and produced.
I HATE TOYOTA, MAZDA, NISSAN, HONDA, HUNDAY, AND ALL ASIAN CARS AND FRENCH RENAULT . THEIR DESIGNS ARE UGLIES, RIDICULOUS, SISSIES, THEIR NAMES SOUND StUPID, THEIR LOGOS ARE RIDICULOUS. PEOPLE WHO HAVE THIS CARS ARE FOOLS.
I LOVE GMC, CADILLAC, CHEVROLET, FORD, LINCOLN, HUMMER, CHRYSLER, DODGE, JEEP, TESLA, SALEEN, ROLLS ROYCE, ASTON MARTIN, BENTLEY, MC LAREN, FERRARY, LAMBORGUINI, MASERATI, BOUGATY, JAGUAR, LOTUS, AUDI, BMW, MERCEDEZ, MAYBACH, THIS ONES ARE REALLY BIG CARS.
If you think that this Tundra looks funny, look at the Youtube video: Toyota's Quality. It's not one of the sponsored videos. At around the 2 minute point, you will see what I mean.
@RovingLandRover Look at your own last comment, genius. You were talking in the "future tense" with your little fantasy about my truck breaking down, and you (still in your little future daydream) would STILL (once again, future tense) be driving your Toyota, which, like many Toyota trucks will probably have rusted in half by the time my truck breaks down. Now dry your tears, toyboy, and face reality. Try looking up "Toyota corrosion, or Toyota frame rust" on youtube. Have some tissues close by.
@furiousgeorge1271 also the toyota recallathon continues! AND my grandmas 2000 something 4runner's frame and underbody is rusting out already and she bought it brand new.
@RovingLandRover So it's new insults you're looking for?Since all your sorry little brain can muster is:"dickwad","asshole","fucking idiot",and"faggot" I guess you need some help. How about this you inbred microcephalic? If my "faggot pile of crap" breaks down:
1. it's 30 years old and still going strong
2. Ive hauled heavy loads in construction, ranch work, and firewood (after work for a little extra money)
3. I will see you still driving the front half of your Tacoma which has broken in half.
@RovingLandRover youre fucking retarded. have you seen all the frame rust problems that toyota pickups have? toyota trucks have a habit of breaking in half, no other trucks American or Japanese have that problem.
@RovingLandRover "Dickwad"? Are you a 12 year old, or what? ONCE AGAIN, YOU ARE JUST AN ANGRY LITTLE GIRL WHO NEEDS TO CHANGE YOUR TAMPON. And once again, you're making it obvious that you have not experience with real trucks. TOYOTA MAKES FLIMSY, CHEESY, WEAK-ASS, PATHETIC POOR EXCUSES FOR TRUCKS. How much weight did you say you could haul in the bed? And as far as your stone wall story goes, my friend barely bumped a tree in his Tacoma, and it crushed the fender like a pop can. Poor toyboy.
@furiousgeorge1271 o and also the tailgates dont hold up to any weight. u know if yota built their trucks like they built their engines they might be some kind of a compare other than that i care about them as much as i care about those indian tata cars.
@RovingLandRover Again, change your tampon, little girl, then come back if you have anything intelligent to say (if you are capable). I've been in construction for over 20 years, and I know what real trucks are capable of, your flimsy little Toyotas don't cut it.Top Gear didn't compare to the punishment that US trucks go through on job sites all over the US every day, for over a century. Maybe your Toyotas build a hut out of sticks and mud for a couple of Somali terrorists, but ours built the US.
@furiousgeorge1271 I seen that top gear video and that is the only toyota guys have to talk about. I didnt think it was all that impressive. they beat the hell out of the body but why would that keep it from starting? i could beat my truck to pieces with a sledgehammer but I guarantee it would still start afterwards.
@furiousgeorge1271 You should take a little time and do some research regarding where trucks are actually made nowadays and then re-evaluate that statement.
And I'm sure your truck was never submerged in the ocean, washed ashore and completely roasted with flames at your construction site...
If the general consensus among most the population is that Toyota is a good company with great trucks, then guess what, they probably are.
@furiousgeorge1271 So a racist construction redneck worker in the field for 20 years. Wow i'd never purchase a piece of shit house that you've worked on. IT might be sloppy and poorly built with fucking nails missing almost all the studs. typical though. A construction worker has a bran the size of a pack of gum.
@EpiDemic117 lets not hack at peoples lives here lol were discussing trucks. Remember lots of this is going to be biased opinions, say i bought a chev or dodge and it just happened to be a lemon.. weather new or used.. then i was like mb ill try a ford and i happened to get a solid truck.. you can guarantee im a be biased towards ford and say that they are best no matter what. or vice versa if it were to have happened with another brand. just keep that in mind :)
Good video, just more evidence at Toyota's most recent attempt at building a work truck. Remember the T-100? What ever did happen to that thing? I still don't see them on the job sites, or pretty much anywhere anymore. I only knew one fool that bought one, and it failed miserably, just like the Tundra.
@RovingLandRover No major rust on my 30 year old Ford. Never been kept in a garage, I never wash it, and only minor rust on the front fenders. The frame is rock solid, and it has less rust (and less problems) than my friend's '98 Tacoma. Watch the youtube vids for "Toyota corrosion, Toyota quality, Toyota frame rust problem, etc." Or shut your ignorant piehole. You just can't face the facts, so you live in your little fantasy world, and continue to deny reality. Poor toyboy. Poor, poor, toyboy.
@RovingLandRover You haven't changed your tampon yet, have you? Still living in denial, and afraid of watching the youtubes of "Toyota corrosion, Toyota frame rust, Sequoia defect, or here's another one 0120091513, and learning the truth. I saw the multi part Toyota commercial called "Killing a Toyota" and it was pathetic. A shameless Toyota advertisement (advertising is the only thing that Toyota is superior at). Give me any Toyota truck, and I will destroy it just by trying to use it for work.
@RovingLandRover "Fucking idiot"?Sounds like someone is menstruating!Go change your tampon, and come back when (and if) you can try to carry on an intelligent conversation.Obviously the Tacoma isn't made to be a work truck, and apparently the Toyota Tundra isn't either. And to say that they will never fail, is naive. Tell that to the poor fools whose Tacomas rusted in half. Apparently you still refuse to view the Toyota corrosion, or Toyota frame rust videos on youtube because you fear the truth.
@RovingLandRover What a joke! Another Toyota pretty boy that doesn't know what real work (or a real truck) is. Just another angry toyboy. You're just all hurt because TOYOTA JUST HAD TO RECALL OVER 2 MILLION MORE VEHICLES SO FAR IN 2011! Wow, your cheesy little Toyota can haul a kayak! How much does a kayak weigh? 40-50 lbs.? Did you look up "Toyota corrosion" on youtube? Or look up their frame rust problems? My 30 year old Ford has never been garaged, and the frame is still rock solid.
@RovingLandRover For your info, no auto maker makes vehicles out of tin, it is much more expensive than steel, and less durable. Also my F150 has around 600k miles, and Ive only replaced minor things, and I used it for ranch work, concrete work, hauling firewood, and a lot of 4 wheeling and goofing around all over the mountains. Many Tacomas have been known to rust in half, don't believe me? Search youtube "toyota corrosion, toyota frame rust, toyota quality, etc." How hard does your toy work?
I HATE TOYOTA, MAZDA, NISSAN, HONDA, HUNDAY, AND ALL ASIAN CARS AND FRENCH RENAULT . THEIR DESIGNS ARE UGLIES, RIDICULOUS, SISSIES, THEIR NAMES SOUND StUPID, THEIR LOGOS ARE RIDICULOUS. PEOPLE WHO HAVE THIS CARS ARE FOOLS.

I owned a 2007 Tundra for just over a year. Nice truck, but I honestly had all the potholes and bumps memorized to work everyday so I could avoid them. No bull. I couldn't stand hitting a bump in the truck and watch the bed flex 3 inches in the review mirrors. I just hated driving it. Never owned a vehicle in my life that I owned for such a short period of time. I own a F150 now. When I traded the tundra in at the Ford dealer there were 2 Tundras traded in for similar reasons. It's a shame beca
there is a reason toyota's logo looks like a vagina with a line through it. you get no play if you drive one because your @ss end is shaking more than j-lo's.
@furiousgeorge1271 well i give you that, build quality they need to work on, they last a long time ya, but it seems that u push them to hard and they might, unlike the old time hilux's which are practically indestructible, but i mean im sure it was more than sponsored, the tests were also conducted by ford am i wrong?

Toyota makes cheap overpriced garbage when it comes to trucks. Toyota started making the midsize Tundra in like 1999 and it gets roasted every time it competes with ford. Noone wants a truck that gets recalled all the time because its built like everything else that comes from fuckin china(half ass)

@Fx4Ranger2002 tard at list toyota makes fuckin recales and its willing to fix it but ford / chevy / and the rest will not tell u shit and u at your own
grego10r 2 months ago
@grego10r Ford and GM just arent as cheap and accident prone thats all. Its just attractive looking import junk. Ever wonder why they only use Fords and Chevys as contruction site trucks, company trucks, or cop cars? Because Toyota along with all the other knockoff Japanese junk is horrible quality and cant take a beating peroid. Toyota trucks are flimsy and made from the cheapest shit on the market. Toyota trucks would simply fall apart under harsh use.
Fx4Ranger2002 2 months ago

They arent bad, but they're nothing special.
chorstma44 1 month ago
@chorstma44 Most of us are. The tests don't put them in last place. It was rated highest in overall dependability. Obviously, in the US, a majority of trucks will be American. In Japan, a majority of trucks are Japanese. Very few Japanese trucks are even available in America. Most Japanese cars are sedans, economy cars and sports cars. And while they aren't the best, nor are they anything exciting, they are better designed than anything America has made in a LONG time.
VhUgGz 1 month ago
@VhUgGz My problem is how biased and hard headed most toyota owners are. They have driven toyotas their whole life and yet they bash on cars they haven't even been in or driven. I have driven mostly fords all of my life, obviously I am a fan of ford, but that doesn't mean every other company is junk. I'm just not a biased idiot and I give everybody a chance. But I have seen most toyota owners bash anything american, and refuse to believe anything negative about toyota, even recalls.
chorstma44 1 month ago
Flex is needed. Try to do a Magnetic particle testing on that Ford the best performer out of the three, I bet there is a 85% percent chance of hairline cracks on the welds, bolts bent or overstressed. Too much stiffness will break at some point. So basically its flex against snap.
u238fist 2 months ago
if people would buy american made vehicles then we wouldnt have a big problem with the automotive industry.

777fuzzypeach 4 months ago
It all has to do with the natural frequency of the trucks, they are all different and ford probably found a speed where their truck looks awesome and the others look like crap. With a different speed this could be a completely reversed situation.
bitely450 4 months ago
@bitely450 Clearly you know something about theory of vibrations....unlike some on here. You are exactly right -- every truck has several harmonics where it will want to resonate and other frequencies where it has very low excursion. It would be trivial to find both the resonant frequencies AND the "quiet" frequencies for each of 3 different trucks.
fenderstratguy 4 months ago
@bitely450 You are also correct that any company could choose a frequency (a road speed in this case) where the forcing function does not match a harmonic for their truck, but causes the competitor to resonate. This could make their truck look good, and their competitors look bad. The only way to take that out of the equation is to test the entire spectrum of vibrations on all 3 trucks, which is not what is going on here.

I love how everyone suddenly becomes a mechanic on here.
ilovemud2010 4 months ago
My former boss used to talk up toyotas so hard, and we would have to explain to him how wrong he was and how bad of trucks they really are. Well he was able to see how right we were first hand when he throw a 50 lbs bag of dog food into the bed of his tacoma and snapped the frame in half. Needless to say both toyota and nissan know little about building trucks, if you want a truck stick with the big 3, they've been making trucks for a long time and know what they're doing.

my 2007 tundra double cab limited 4x4 did have bad bed bounce.

The frame on the Tundra is almost build like the 18wheelers. if you drove the 18 wheelers without a trailer on them they bounce on the rear Like the Tundra.
blam7 6 months ago 6

390merc65 8 months ago
@390merc65 Well well well... been awhile friend. the big 3 dont have to prove themselves, as toyota has once again proven themselves superior. Turns out, the next generation Tundra wont even use fossil fuel. You will get in and put a hat on that is hooked to the truck and it runs off your own sense of self-satisfaction! Also, the next transformers movie will see Optimus Prime being changed from a Peterbuilt to a Tundra. He will then single handedly beat down all the bad guys.

@fenderstratguy I think we can agree that an old model Toyota Hilux is built in a completely different world than a Toyota Tundra... Little toyota trucks have been built for years as well, the tacoma is a good truck, but when it comes to a full size working truck... they've been at it for 12 years... compare that to Ford or Chevy's record of almost 80 years
Jmcconn110 7 months ago

fenderstratguy 6 months ago
@fenderstratguy That was a Hilux, this is a Tundra. lol, I admit that did impress me, but I bet they could do all that with an old F-150 and it would hold up just fine...
FordMaverickFanatic 6 months ago
@fenderstratguy
If you do, they have had extensive frame repairs by a shade tree mechanic that was stupid enough to waste his time, money, and energy on it.
evhkrmer5150 6 months ago
@evhkrmer5150 It's no more irrelevant than the majority of comments on this thread saying Ford and Chevy have been building full size trucks for years and years. I don't care which truck one someone likes better, one way or the other. I'm just pointing out that some of the logic on this thread is weak and you can hardly argue it's not.
fenderstratguy 6 months ago
@fenderstratguy
Why???
evhkrmer5150 6 months ago
@evhkrmer5150 My comment asked if the poster thought Toyotas were crap, and gave a specific evidence that at least one model was quite impressive. You decided to call that point irrelevant, based on the age of the product I cited; that this is a review of current production vehicles. You disliked my response that not everyone seems to look at it that way
fenderstratguy 6 months ago
@evhkrmer5150 Fine. Here you go. I suspect Toyota could design an identical-looking course tuned to the harmonics of the frames they build, that would show minimal excursion for their truck body, but energize both the Chevy and the Ford. It's just basic theory of vibrations. All 3 makes are going to have different natural harmonics. Carefully choosing the frequency of the input will affect how the frames respond.

Apparently you still refuse to view the Toyota corrosion, or Toyota frame rust videos on youtube because you fear the truth.

that toyota is hilarious. so this is toyotas attempt at building a work truck? how funny!

@furiousgeorge1271 toyboy sums it up pretty well!

I owned a 2007 Tundra for just over a year. Nice truck, but I honestly had all the potholes and bumps memorized to work everyday so I could avoid them. No bull. I couldn't stand hitting a bump in the truck and watch the bed flex 3 inches in the review mirrors. I just hated driving it. Never owned a vehicle in my life that I owned for such a short period of time. I own a F150 now. When I traded the tundra in at the Ford dealer there were 2 Tundras traded in for similar reasons. It's a shame beca

@296jayce Sure it was sponsored by Ford, that is obvious, but why don't the Chevy and Dodge look like they are going to fall apart like the Toyota?

@furiousgeorge1271 well i give you that, build quality they need to work on, they last a long time ya, but it seems that u push them to hard and they might, unlike the old time hilux's which are practically indestructible, but i mean im sure it was more than sponsored, the tests were also conducted by ford am i wrong?
