On top of being one of the top players and best rebounders in history, I've always liked Charles Barkley because he's outspoken, brash, and always says what's on his mind. He says all the things we want to say, but wouldn't have the guts to say and take the heat that comes with it.
he tells the truth. but occasionally he goes overboard early in his career he spoke on pure emmotion without thinking.
He is also very misunderstood. His commercial on athletes not being role models was misunderstood he meant parents are the kids examples not that athletes have a right to do anything off the court
Barkley was a real nigga and a GREAT player. Never be another Sir Charles. a 6'4 Power Forward that was the league MVP.. If I didnt see it myself I would never believe it.
very strong power forward, athletic, leaper, skilled, intelligent player, funny, bad boy guy in court,........... wooooooooooooooooooooooooooheeeeeeeeeeeeee.......................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If it weren't for those old guys the guys of today wouldn't have anything to admire and find inspiration off of. It's like Kobe Bryant would be as great if Michael Jordan wasn't? Probably not, he most likely looked at Jordan in awe in found inspiration to take his game to the next level. If everyone were scrubs, Kobe would probably be a scrub too. Present learns from the past.
If the kids today only knew how good Barkley was. They think Lebron was a freak of nature. Barkley was like Lebron only better. If he was playing today he would be the MVP!!!
He's my second favorite athelete of all time (Iverson being first.) But NO WAY is better than Lebron. More skilled (excluding atheleticism) no not even that.
Defensive rules have changed since Barkley's day and it now favors the offensive player. Until Lebron wins an MVP or two, I have Barley ahead of him. Lebron may be a better passer but Barkley was a better rebounder. Both could score and played similar defense. Barkley would be a MVP player today.
Today's rules favor the defense more than those in the 80s and 90s. Yeah they call more ticky-tack defensive fouls. But more importantly they did away with the man-to-man rules to allow zones and effective trapping. That is why scoring is lower now.
And no Barkley couldn't contest any MVP race with LeBron.
Lebron is a freak of nature...y do we gotta look at Charles Barkley to confirm that? Lebron is 6'8 260 basically all muscles, as fast as anybody in the league. and as athletic as anybody. he's 3rd most athletic in my eyes behind Howard and J Smoove(dont argue this part, my opinion). but he is a freak of nature
I wasn't arguing about Lebron. I was arguing Barkley's greatness. I know Lebron is a freak but most people overlook Barkley. He is one of the greatest forwards to ever play. This video is of Sir Charles not Lebron.
but u said "If kids today only knew how good Barkley was...they think Lebron was a freak of nature" that basically implied that Lebron isnt a freak of nature cuz u seem to believe the stereotype of my generation being ignorant. i dont need to have lived in the 80s to know that Magic Jordan Barkley Ewing and all those people were great, highlights, stats, and reputation are good enough.
I didn't intend for it to sound that way. The younger generation is extremely intelligent and have a lot of knowledge about the game. I wasn't trying to insult anyone, nor was I trying to discredit Lebron. I was merely pointing out that Barkley was a beast, a freak of nature. What bothers me is when younger fans blast me saying, "Wilt, Russell, Bird, Barkley etc...couldn't play today". How would they know if they never watched them play? I apologize if I offended you.
yea my bad. its just that in my experience everyone from the 80s is the same. always sayin "the players from this generation would never have been able to stand on their own 2 feet in the 80s" now this can be true. but is it necessary? no, times have changed, and they cant seem to adjust. and they always take it out on my generation.
@Verdis1 he was a butterball, my sister served him a chocolate mocha at the double tree in 1999 when he came to the fred meyer challenge, he was a butterball turkey. my dad got his autograph for me, he said hes not a dick, he is humble in his eyes. people misjudge him.
I remember this; this was like early in the 1990-91 season and I think Philly's record was like 8-3 going into this game; they just lost Johnny Dawkins for the season but they won this game and Barkley hit this huge three. The Sixers were good that year but bad trades and injuries cost them the season.

If Kobe and Paul can contest Lebron for MVP, I am quite sure Barkly would give him a run for his money.
