  • and Gram Parsons too.

  • Thank-you Eva. I'm sorry your family and friends and the world doesn't have you physically here to hug and love. I believe your energy will fill us all forever sweetheart. Bless and love you always and forever

  • This was very ......... very hard to watch.

    Thank you Eva.

  • Excuse me...I have to go cry now.....

  • Simply incredible

  • Rest in peace beautiful soul

  • Wow, I totally cried.

  • Her smile is like a goddess.

  • She lived my favorite quote:

"there is nothing so strong as true gentleness, and nothing as gentle as

    true strength".

How gifted she was. How fortunate we

are to have had her, even briefly.

  • does anyone know the name of the song playing from 1:29 to 2:10?

  • That'll be "Way Beyond The Blue". It's on the Eva Cassidy "Time After Time" CD.

  • Thank you.

  • marvelous just marvelous

  • she's the best

  • she's an angel....

  • i salute you God's angel ms. Eva Cassidy. Truly God is amazing because before He took you from this world, from us, He let you sang songs beautifully and soulfully. Thanks ms. Eva and family and friends for sharing us the warmth and coolness of her angelic voice, her life is an inspiration. Thanks Hengehugger. thanks youtube.

  • I Think the perfect word to describe what She gave us. Bette Midler's song "Wind Beneath My WIngs": "Thank you, thank you, Thank God For you."

  • there is no singer that can make us emotional like eva..

  • I can relate having lost a sister a brother & many friends to cancer God Bless Them. The pain is always just below the surface for family & friends.

  • her mom said that when she was dying-she never complained-even though the pain was horrible-she could`nt walk--she was bed ridden. she said she had, had a great life with no regrets. I cry when I think of her life and her end--Thank God for her

  • Once Dr. Ben Johnson was touring a mature English garden and he made the statement that these are the things that are hard to lose(when you leave the world). I think Dr. Johnson's statement applies to Eva. She has captured my love and soul as one human being's love to another. Love transends all the cruel bonds we humans endure. Thanx to Eva's love & talent we can escape into a little world of love & beauty for even just a short time. This will refresh your soul.

  • There is a book called Songbird, its no longer published so you'll be lucky to get one!! There is a musical based on Eva and her Story. The girl that plays Eva is amazin. Shes even met the approval of the real Chris Biando and Eva's drummer Raice.

  • I was listening to her tonight at work and I was thinking the same thing that someone should make a movie or write a book about her life. This woman continues to give even after she has passed on she always comforts me when I take the time to listen. Bless You,Eva

  • Eva reminds me of Elvis. He became larger than life when he died. After 30 years he still retains his place amoung great singers and what a greater tribute are those Elvis impersonators and his inside clique. They are the ones who keep the flame of Elvis' name and work alive. I hope Eva's memory is carried on by her fans as Elvis was carried by his fans.

  • Someone, somewhere has to write her life story! Someone has to make a movie about this wonderful person! I am very very touched...

  • What a amazing voice and amazing life story !I am deeply touched.

  • All I can say is "WOW"!

  • U commented exactly what I was going to say!!!

"WOW"! I cant say anything else either!

  • I stumbled upon a gem!I'm A fan after a second.Touched for a lifetime.cobykoehl

  • We lost an angel! Thank you for posting this video!!!

  • Shit!.I'm crying.R.I.P. You'll be immortal in your music.

  • th u Hengehugger, i accidentally came here searching for karaoke songs & have never heard of her, what a beautiful voice! you know they say that God leads "us" to places & people, (i believe that), so i guess this was no accident i got here. what an inspirational voice & beauty she had.

  • thank you for the post. i never knew the whole story. thank you.

  • Eva was so beautiful and talented! The world is truly blessed to have been touched by her wonderful singing!! Tamara xx

  • Eva had a gift for getting every drip of emotion out of a note. The only other female singer who comes close is Alison Krauss.

  • Thank you, thank you. I never got to see this before. What an amazing signer!

  • Hengehugger,

Thanks so much for posting this beautiful story.

  • Thanks you SO much for these videos ... absolutely beautiful

  • Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful!!

  • Eva,Eva,Eva..... Your beauty as a singer and as a person will stay with me forever. I just stumbled upon your grace on You Tube and will never be the same again. Please Rest In Peace, and may your voice continue to resonate in the Hearts and Minds of all who are fortunate enough to hear you sing on this Earth or wherever you may be now.

  • wow.

  • As a voice teacher who has worked with Grammy award winning artists, and who teaches the real bel canto, Eva Cassidy is a hero of mine. Her parents should be SOOOOOOOOOOOO proud as their daughter was gifted beyond their wildest dreams. So much that this make me cry so hard every time I listen to it.

  • omg

  • Open your eyes

...and appreciate our gentle, unassuming artists while they live

  • Eva was a very special lady who will continue to live through her music. I am also sorry for not having known of her while she walked this world, but the sound of her voice reinforces the beauty in this world. God love her.

  • i'm completely agree with you...

she wasnt a lady...she was an angel on earth..she's only come back from where she came from...

    (sorry for my english,i'm italian)

  • You are forgiven, I am Filipino.

  • Eva..u will last forever..u r amazing...u were like an angel who came on Earth and left an amazing gift for the people..thank u for that..u will never be forgiven..

  • Eva..u will last forever..u were like an angel who came to the Earth and left an amazing gift for the people..thank u for that...u will never be forgotten

  • That is a lovely programme for a lady who has themost beautiful voice imagineable.

  • I also wish I'd known about or seen Eva while she was alive, JazzRocks. But I agree w/RSB: our lives are richer for her inclusion in them, whenever Fate ordains that to be. To paraphrase a quote that ended the Boston Globe story on her:

''I remember when we first aired the story, a substitute jock who heard it on her way to work came bursting into the studio and said, 'No, no, you're wrong about this! It's a miracle that her voice was recorded at all! It's not a loss - it's a gift!'

  • This why we should appreciate people when they are living. Give flowers now not when they are dead.

  • I'd been playing common peoples' music 40 years when I switched on the TV late one night. By the time I heard the syllable "-where" I was a total wreck. I was already pretty much gone at "Some-" but I just wasn't fast enough to believe a voice in the world could sing a second note like that one.

I've said it elsewhere, but thanks to her band for such brilliant support.

  • I hate the fact that I discovered her 11 years after her death. A wasted 11 years musically.

  • It's NEVER too late. I discovered her two years ago. I wish I'd had the opportunity to see her in person. But, nonetheless, our lives are richer because of her inclusion it it -- great or small.

  • The first time I heard her sing I went to a on-line store and bought her CD because I had to have something by this amazing singer/talent.

  • Impossible to watch this and not cry.

  • There are so many lessons to be learned from this! Whoever you are, Hengehugger, I thank you.

  • He heard Eva sing 'Amazing Grace' and didn't record it. A complete moron!! I just wish I could hear her version of 'Amazing Grace'. What a lost opportunity...

  • I thought the same thing! Her "Amazing Grace" would probably have been mind blowingly beautiful.

  • her version of "amazing grace" is absolutely magnificent. it is done acapella and is available for download. (i found it on limewire)

  • correction! the "amazing grace" download on limewire was mislabeled. it is a beautiful rendition by leann rimes, not eva. apologies.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this Nightline show. I can't thank you enought. I love Eva, every "find" of video or audio is a "gift." Thank you again. x0

  • I just heard of Eva just minutes ago from one of my customers and i looked her up on here. What a wonderful voice and to my suprise she was friends with the God Father of go-go music Chuck Brown you learn something new every day. RIP EVA

  • Eva you were truly a gift from god...

  • Thanks for posting these three videos. She was a wonderful talent.

  • Thank you for sharing this with us, Eva, an artist in the truest sense of the word, her story, OMG the tears.

  • I was very moved by her story. She's the only singer that I know that can move you to tears. I'm going to buy her cds right away. THanks for sharing this....

  • thx, is all i c an say. have ordered her cds. i am humbled.

  • thank you..

  • God I love Eva Cassidy. There is so much pure emotion in all of her songs. If Eva's songs don't move you to tears, you'd better check your pulse. She did such incredible interpretations of other people's songs. Take "Time After Time" for example. Cyndi Lauper wrote it & has a very good rendition, but listen to Eva's interpretation & how much more feeling she has. Same thing with "Over the Rainbow". Eva made it a completely different song of incredible beauty. - Zen Doc

  • I been a musician for 40 years, classically trained, and I really think she's the greatest singer I've ever heard.

She sings Fields of Gold better than Sting, It's a Wonderful World better than Louis, Over the Rainbow better than Judy and Cheek to Cheek at least as well as Mel.

It's also amazing to WATCH her sing: it looks like she's not doing anything.

You listen to other singers and, compared to her, it's sounds like amateur night.

  • The finest singing gift the world has ever known share Eva with those you love

  • Amen to that. I question if she ever had any training. I haven't heard but if she didn't, I would have to say she is an incredible talent.

  • her voice is so honest

  • Thankyou very much for posting this! I've loved Eva's music for years, but this was the first time I've viewed this coverage of her. Truly and amazing lady, both for her talent and for her determination to live her life to the fullest.

  • Thank syou so much for this as it has touched me so much!

  • The only thing I don't like about this broadcast is the fact that they didn't mention that she died from Melanoma, the #1 cancer killer of YOUNG adults like Eva. Unfortunately, most people think skin cancer can't kill you. We need to get the word out, becuase it is a preventable cancer, but NOT a treatable one. Eva is one of my heroes, not only musically, but because she and I share the same cancer. I can't wait to sing with her in heaven.

  • I hear people say all the time that a song moved them to tears. That never happened to me... until I heard Eva Cassidy.

  • Wonderful video. Thank you for sharing.

  • one of the most heartwarming stories i've ever heard...i remember when i first heard an mp3 of "somewhere over the rainbow" years ago, i had no idea who it was by, yet i found myself playing it over and over....thx for sharing these her wonderful story....

  • I'm a grown man. That made me cry. I'm an atheist but I'll take one tiny moment and thank GOD her music will live on. RIP Eva and thank you.

  • Am balling my eye's out myself and am the same

  • When I first heard Eva Cassidy singing Somewhere over the Rainbow on Radio 2 I was so moved to tears I had to stop what I was doing and this had me in tears again thank you. She had such a beautiful voice a great talent taken from us too soon. Thank you for sharing.

  • Beautiful! Thanks so much for this.

  • so amazing. i heard this all on the radio a while back, but it stil has the same effect on me. tears, tears and more tears. she truly is amazing!!!

  • Thank-you so much for uploading this segment. I'm a big fan of Eva and never saw this. Got to go wipe my tears now.

  • Her songs are so great. I love her Cyndi Lauper covers.

  • i think i can see the way out now

  • Talk about turly beautiful talent that left this earth too soon. It turly sad. Infact im holding back the tear while im writing this. Hopefully Eva has found her little place over the rainbow.

  • god, her voice is beautiful. her rendition of Fields Of Gold is so moving. it brings tears to my eyes.

  • haunting voice

  • Aque Ne!

  • My Dad had told me about this Nightline segment for years, but I wasn't able to watch it...until now. Thanks so much for uploading this and keeping Eva's legacy alive.

  • Wow! I just learned something about myself. Thanks, Eva!

  • Truly beautiful

  • Thank You.

  • Thank you for sharing this.. I have looked for it for a long time. I think Ella Fitzgerald would have loved Eva's singing imo. Ella was one of Eva's inspirations as she grew up listening to Ella and Billie Holiday records of her parents.

  • So moving. Thank you for posting this video.

  • effortless vocals. left us way too early.

  • eloquent

  • This is the first time that I have seen the ABC piece. Thank you so much for posting it.
