No, she hits a complete pike position upon landing which is a deduction. You have to show a stretch/open body as you land. While the vault was gorgeous for the first half, she just is a little under rotated and pikes down the very last part.
I think she kinda had to pike in order to land on her feet. Her first 1992 Olympics vault is the best one of her life! Only if it very .025 of a point higher, she would've at least tied for first.
Right. Had she not broken form and piked, she definitely would have landed on her face or her knees. I agree about her AA vault in Barcelona. Much much better than here and worthy of a 10.0. Too bad two of the six judges didn't feel the same.
@tide32athlete no, 12bmills was right, it was a whip not a pike, the pike position needed to be held longer in order for it to be a pike, but she did whip her body around which looked like a pike but wasen't
@luv4cookie1 No, I'm sorry, but you are incorrect. The vault is a LAYOUT Yurchenko with a full twist and I've competed it many times and taught the skill many times. Your body is to remain laid out/stretched for the entire vault. Piking down or "whipping" as you call it, is a deduction. Just ask any judge or any credible gymnastics coach.
@tide32athlete I said whipping to mean that she wasn't piking. Plus, it's a bigger deduction to pike. With whipping through, it looks better, so there isn't as much of a deduction. But I think we all can agree that her first Olympic AA vault from 92 was perfect and deserved to get a 10, but at least she did better than any other American gymnast in medal count.
@12bmills LOL call it what you want, but she hits a 90 degree pike position. Just pause it or watch it in slow motion.
Yes, her first vault in the AA in '92 deserved a ten, but she got a 9.975. It was more worthy of a ten than Milosovici's ten on floor in Event Finals.
A 9.912 seems a bit generous for a vault with such a big pike!
