  • this version sounds so generic that it is a pain to listen. vocal is capable but all the magic is simply GONE

  • Is it true that they are going to release their LAST album in spring?

  • @AnimusLiber69 I read about it , its sad, but i think they will also relase something after that ,maybe. At least messiah is also preparing his solo .

  • please let me die in solitude..

  • In my opinion, Johan Langquist has the best doom metal voice I've ever heard. Epicus was a masterpiece with him.

  • @pickmetofight There's a new recording of this version of Solitude with him, from 2007. It's here on Youtube if you look it up.

  • He's like a mix of Ronnie James Dio and I.C.S Vortex

  • Check out the unreleased and rare 2007 version with JOHAN LANGQUIST

    (from doomology 2010).

Awesome version! JOHAN's voice is a miracle!

    /watch?v=xi1v1SmPDNk

  • Great vocals, very powerful but, rather listen the original by johan landquist.

  • He's not a horrid singer, per se, but...he sounds really generic. I infinitely prefer Johan Langquist's vocals.

  • who gives here one negative vote???? oh no!! no!! rob SINGS!

  • I really like Rob, and he's an amazing live frontman too.

  • The old version is much better. All the magic is gone now

  • No. Messiah all the way.

  • Kurde Messiah Marcolin miał zajebisty głos ale przyznać muszę Robert Lowe również posiada charakterystyczny i tak samo zajebisty głos. Solitude nagrana z Robertem jest wersją ow iele lepszą niż oryginał a album King Of The Grey Ilands jest prawdziwym majstersztykiem!!

  • @ScrapMonster88 Tak obaj panowie mają zajebiste głosy tylko że Solitude w orginale (i żadna piosenka z Epicus Doomicus Metalicus) nie była śpiewana przez Marcolina

  • Candlemass with Robert Lowe is just another Solitude Aeturnus.

  • This song takes you to the black tunnel, but with no light at the end and brings you back to life only after it's finished.

  • robert lowe isnt just the best candlemass vocal he has the the best voice in the 21century

  • Rob shouldnt be allowed to touch Messiah's stuff. This is bullshit!

  • @Cannon0014 He can touch it as long as people remember Messiah is the master of these songs. These versions have their own Merits. But they lack something compared to Messiahs stuff. Just my 2 cents.

  • @Cannon0014 This isn't Messiah's; Johan Lanquist sang the original Solitude :/

  • @Cannon0014 Messiah didn't even do the original, though. Lanquist did.

  • @ConsecratedOblivion Are you serious? Wtf... Johan and Messiah sound VERY VERY alike then

  • @Cannon0014 seriously? not even close...

  • I like these vocals better, but instrumentally I prefer the original

  • Comment removed

  • wow... i came to this song expecting to have bad opinions (because Langquist is my fave CM vocalist) but i'm pleasantly surprised. I need to listen to more Lowe work.

  • Rob is a great vocalist.

  • Luxury problems :D technically, Johan could be the worst singer who ever sang for Candlemass, and he is so incredibly awesome I bet 90% of all traditional Metal bands in the world would murder to get someone like him in the band. I would! All four singers were nothing less then magnificent.

This version of the song ist great. It gives it an slightly other feeling. It's more intimate this way, and way more epic, though I miss a little bit the sheer desperation the original has.

  • owful............

  • I honestly can't decide on which vocalist I like the best....I'll just say Candlemass is a band that has always had a phenomenal vocalist, regardless of the era.

  • @JTOwens89 word!

  • @JTOwens89

Agree. It's actually a great pleasure to listen to this two fantastic version and compare the differences

  • Rob sounds better on the Lanquist stuff than Messiah....and it takes a lot out of me to say anything bad about Marcolin.

  • Johan>Messiah>Rob

  • as far as this song is concered I suppose.......

  • Lofl, you are insane. Johan was by FAR the worst. It goes Messiah>Rob>Johan, but Rob is earning my respect, so soon it will be Messiah/Rob>Johan

  • Thomas wasn't bad either. Chapter VI was a good album.

  • Johan's version sounds so much better .. much more emotion if you ask me. This one does nothing to me , Johan's version gave me the shivers when listening to it.

  • Robert is still my favorite of them all. Then Messiah and Johan.

  • for me the order is the exact oposite..

    :( i want johan back

  • Best song by them. Well, best version of this song by FAR. I can't believe they never kept this awesome singer....... D:

  • excelent singer. !!!!!!

  • most comments here compare Messiah to Lowe. It is really shocking that no one acknowledges Johan Langqvist whose performance in Epicus was just astounding and in my opinion much better than anything any singer after him did with Candlemass.

To me, the original version in unsurpassed.

  • It was darker but Lowes version is more epic sounding. Thats just my opinion

  • Johan's my personal favorite Candlemass vocalist, followed closely by Messiah, then Lowe.

  • Well , i like more messiah . But i have to say that this song sung by Langqvist its 4000 times better.

  • messiah and robert are both great but i liked the way messiah acted in videos and live haha but like i said they both fucking awsome

  • Only bad Candlemass singer was between chapter Chapter VI and From the 13th Sun. I've been listening those albums least of their discography though, but thats my opinion.

  • b.S.

cHAPTER vi WAS GREAT epic metal (in the vein of B.S. the headless cross- tony martin))

From the 13th was a perfect album also - great vocals in the vein of ozzy

  • I love old version. This is only ok.

  • I think both Rob and Messiah are great singers... but for some reason I think Solitude from 1986 is better than this version (even it's not sung by Messiah).

Anyway - great song and great band. Candlemass forever!

  • fuck messiah, robert lowe is god of doom. Keep the good work. :D

  • You've listened to Candlemass for 7 years and never listened to Epicus where one of the greatest singers of all time sings on? Johan Längquist? Messiah have a crazy voice but I can't stand it live, it's not bad, but he is so god damn lazy. Lowe in Candlemass is still a grower, but his work in Solitude Aeturnus should be heard by everyone who enjoys doom. A living legend in my books, that voice is just great, so fucking great.

  • Agreed. I think Robert is the best one of them. Messiah sings in some of the best candlemass songs, and its perfect. But live his so annoying! He never holds the notes, still he can't keep his mouth shut for one second live.

  • Absolutely, he rants on and on "hey hey hey hey" and dances, but the actual singing part? Uh-uh, no no just laaazy. I envy and congratz everyone who will enjoy Candlemass playing Epicus with Johan next year, headbang for me too and cheer him good, he deserves it!

  • i think this is a badass song. you cant help but like any well made version of a great song.

good vocals. i think i'll always be partial to the original but good job on this.

  • Both Johan's and Robert's versions of this is great. Though i don´t think Messiah sings it that good.

  • No, Messiah did not sing the original studio version from their first album, that was Johan Lanquist[not sure about spelling]. I like this version too, this remake, but on the same album they had Robert redo "At The Gallows End", Messiah's masterpiece, that was did not come out well, to Me. That one they should have left alone. The new album should be great, its going to be called "Death Magic Doom"

  • I actually think Rob did a better job with At The Gallows End as well. The only song from the Messiah era Rob should never cover is Samarithan its absolute perfection just the way it is.

  • @ForegoneWay Messiah does not sing on the original.

  • @ForegoneWay

Really? That's interesting. I think the Rob Lowe version of Solitude is better but the original Gallow's End is the superior version. Either way, we're debating Candlemass after all, so let's just agree to rock on.

  • if im correct, messiah didnt sing the original version either.

  • sucks ,messiah is the king

  • I love both versions of this. I grew up on the original, but Robert is awesome. All 3 are wonderful vocalists!

  • Hate to say it but I agree this version is much better than the original.. like old school Candlemass though.

  • They were a huge band with Messiah. But Lowe is better. He is like a Vocal God.

  • haha Huge :P

  • i like this version more than the other..the first sucks but this is fucking awesome!!!

  • Rob Lowe is fucking brilliant! Love his voice.

  • Love this version :D
