  • That is once nice frame

  • It's beautiful.......Thank you for the very, very close up.

    Loved the cracks and detailing

    Luck you :)

  • Wow, Amazing!!!!

  • very good video, incredible

  • I love this painting!!

  • The magic of this work is that the girl appears as though she had just slowly turned her head and noticed the artist, and he captured that precise moment.

  • I recall a visit I made to the Mauritshaus and the room that housed 3 Vermeers ,including this one. The girl looks at you from the painting in such an intense way that when I decided to leave on turning I still felt her eyes on my back!

  • I look like this woman of THE GIRL WITH PEARL EARRING.I came across the painting about 2 years ago in a magazine I get of reproductions and antiques.Although I am familiar with paintings I didn't know about this. When I saw it I was in shock cause I look just like her.I put a picture on facebook and everyone says I look like her. When my family saw it they were in shock to see it and how much it looks like me.

  • wow such a beautiful painting.

  • he truely captured that young lady in his painting

  • It's not a pearl, it's of metal. Vemeer painted commoners and middle class

  • Beautiful painting. The frame is quite beautiful too, and the details of the paint, with those tiny cracks crawling though the surface... thanks for the close up.

  • Absolutely beautiful! Thankyou

  • don't you have a better quality video? if you do please upload it!

  • I could sit there for hours just to look at this fantastic masterpiece!! She's simply beautiful. Thanks for the post.

  • It is a rather small painting in real life, but very lovely!!! Scarlett Johannson doesn't really look like her, but I LOVE her in this role. To me the model has a bit of a smile and wonder and happiness in her eyes.

  • Ooh you've gotta love those lips and eyes. I guess that's why Scarlett Johannson got the role in the film.I didn't realise it is such a small picture.I suppose if all you see are reproductions you have no idea of actual size.

  • the movie is fictional.

  • Thanks for the shots of Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring. She is simply beautiful! Tot ziens

  • wow.

  • cool!

it is allowed to people take photos with flash? :S its strange its suposed to damage the painting ...

I would like to be there too! :B

    Greetings from Chile :)

  • I can't believe you left there so quickly. I would've stayed there for hours.

  • I'm jealous. I'd love to see this in person.

YouTube's great, but it's just not the same as setting your eyes on the work itself.

  • ...excellent...enjoyed video...thanks for the post

  • Love the painting!, tnx for the video!

  • My pleasure. Thanks for visiting. HS

  • Is it the original painting? Where it is? I´m dying to see it, and seing a Vermeer exhibition in Madrid.

  • Yes, it is the original. You can see it's relative size to people there. It also shows brush strokes, heavy use of paint which is unusual for Vermeer.

There is another "girl" type painting atributed to Vermeer, though not in any books of his work but it sure looks like his. Black backgrond and other similarities to Girl.

Anyhow, enjoy. Which ones will be in Madrid?

  • Hola, at the moment there isn´t anyone, but I saw one or two at National Gallery in London 3 years ago. I live 300 kilometres from apart of Madrid, so I´m waiting to Vermeer to rush there. Sorry mistakes, I´m learning English.

  • Enjoy and safe trip. Sorry I don't speak Spanish or I would gladly communicate that way.But as one says in Dutch,

    Tot ziens

    (G'bye)

  • one of my all time favorite paintings, so beautiful!

  • I am pleased to have brought it to you.

  • This painting is the best of all times for me, better than Mona Lisa, I really want to see it in the museum, but I´m kinda far(Argentina), I envy you (in a good way of course). Really awesome details!!

  • I am so pleased you enjoy it. It is even more remarkable in a larger format. I have a copy of it on my living room wall, but after seing these paintings in their original state, allI notice is the flaws in the reproduction. But yes, it is a special painting, which I agree, holds as much or more intrigue than the M. Lisa. Hope you get there soon. It is a wonderful place.

  • thx a heap...but why are there cracks on the gilr's face?

  • Hi.

The cracks exist in the topcoat, some sort of varnish I suppose. You tend to see them on losts of paintings. Some reproductions leave them in, some blurr it a bit to get rid of them. It also depends on the lighting. Truth is, when you stand back a bit you don't notice them. Note however most of Vermeer's paintings I have seen have no visible brush strokes or varnish. This video was taken at the Mauritshuis (MauritsHOUSE), in The Hague, The Netherlands. Thanks for asking.

  • I always wanted to see this. Thanks.

  • Is it the original? Where is the video taken?

  • Yes, this is the original and it is at the Mauritshuis (Mauritshouse)museum in The Hague. In girl he applies his paint in heavy brushstrokes on the collar and the reflection is visible in the earring, along with the windows and Vermeer's camera obscura.

There is a third Vermeer in the same museum, a biblical setting. I don't remember what it is called and you would never recognize it as one of Vermeer's. Pretty unremarkable.

    Thanks for watching.

  • hello how come it has 1632-1675?

  • To be honest, I don't know. It certainly overlaps with his lifetime. It would likely be somebody's guess about his era? I will have to check to se his assumed birthdate.

  • @jamie6754 Vermeer was born in 1632 en died in 1675.
