Yes Indeed!!! Such beautiful playing and dialogue. Jan brings out the very best in anyone he performs with....For me, if there is a god/creator their voice/cosmic sound is the sound of Jan's horn! See him live was like no other musical experience I have ever had.
I heard his 1977 group with David Torn(gtr), Michael Dipasqua(drums/percussion) and it was unforgettable for the dynamic range. The played from whisper quiet to metal band roar, when the good ship Garbarek was in flight. The trio above are, of course, from the STaR session. His sound IS immediately recognizable. Some sax players prefer a less nasal sound ...to me it just has a sound closer, at timeS, to a violin and ocassionally, almost trumpet-like.
I have listened to many saxophone players and I have heard no other player with such a sincere mornful tone. Garbarek's expression has captured the moment better than any other sax player I have heard.
