  • The Verve are one of my favorite British bands along with Oasis, The Beatles, Stereophonics, Radiohead etc.

  • Mick Jagger and Keith Richards wrote some nice rock n roll pop songs, but they never wrote a piece of orchestral music in their lives. The sample in question was from a orchestral interpretation of the Rolling Stone's song, "The Last Time", by the Gary Oldham Orchestra. Mr.Oldham took some liberties with the song, to say the least, and at least to my ears, the orchestral version sounds absolutely nothing like the original Stone's version.

  • In my humble opinion, The Verve and Oasis were LAST true bands..

  • @DannyMadFerIt the verve is great but its a total rip off of U2 from his voice to the shades, to the style of music the way the songs are presented and filmed, i mean its okay with my I love U2 but dont say they are a real band! they are a product of a marketing plan, what worked once will work again lol

  • cant believe this aint in the millions for views. That means there are a shitload of people missing out!

  • this concert is really deserving of that overused word epic, every song is spot on and richard voice is giving me chills right now, unbelievable gig

  • I don't know why but Richard Ashcroft's carefree attitude reminds me of the Gallaghers'!

  • sounds way better live than the videooo love it

  • semplicemente stupenda una delle più belle della storia della musica............THE VERVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • Oh wow he sounds vocally better live than the actual video.

  • check out the cover i did (:

  • such a shame the music we all love is tied up in all the coperate shit that we are paying for today & for the next 20 or 30 year's! long live music may it keep reigning supreme!

  • I hope you understand ....

  • Nobody makes music like the British and I'm a Mexican from LA. I love everything they do. From the Kinks to New Order. I had this CD on my 6 -CD (before i-pod) for two years. I can listen to this album everyday.

  • @popova Hi my friend, respect to you and all, you love our culture and music, we love your chillies x

i was there that day ...awsome

  • I bloody love being fan of verve and being a puuuuuure arab ^^

  • I'm not British; but boy, this is speaking to my soul directly. I’m a little weird about the way I listen to music. I can’t get enough of a song that has grabbed my heart and will play it over and over and over for days. This is one of those songs. Well, and Rather Be.

  • @1linames There is nothing weird. Songs like this one i play over then a decade, over and over again and never can get enough.....

  • Simply awesome

  • why does it matter where the songs come from as long as we listen,if it makes you feel good then listen to it more, peace to the world

  • tas ir kaut kas ... this is something ....

  • 12 dislikes from Justin Bieber...

  • I feel the music in my bones. I wish I could kidnap this band!

  • British bands are really awesome. This truth cannot be denied.

But it doesn't mean they're good because they're british.

    They're good. That's enough.

Just like there are other good artists all around the globe.

  • @mrvaugier No but it has a lot to with the culture and background they where brought up in. But yeah there are other great bands around the globe

  • all the love i have is in my mind.. i hope u understand!''

  • Not gods - Englishmen. The next best thing

  • Yeah and there is The Smiths as well very true isn't enough space. Poor France - no wonder they grumble about half their chart being full of music from the English speaking world. Apparently even in Medieval time - people from other parts of the world admire English music - and that time has come around again. Thank you The Verve!!!

  • @WistfulDog British rock n roll would never have existed without the US. Simply, its in the US that blues and jazz have been invented by the blending of cultures and slavery. It's an american thing to begin with!

  • @WistfulDog Yes but, I heard french cuisine was a million years ahead english gastronomy.

  • U.K + USA = the best bands in the World ! hands down

  • I feel lucky man

  • i always get happy when i listening to that song. life`s good!

  • impossível escutar sem pensar no filme Show De Vizinha *-*

  • Ashcroft to N Gallagher 2 weeks before Glasto "Hey Noel, any advice on headlining Glastonbury?" Noels reply was " Er no cos we are shit, and are crap, we cant headline Glasto because we are no better then status quo" Ashcroft "Some mate you are you miserable cunt!" Noel "We got lucky, our kid is a twat, the rest of the band look like a bunch of labourers, but at least I now know 4 chords!! How good am I?" Ashcroft "Not very you stupid daft manc"

  • @coltsuperocean10

    Oasis>Verve

  • @yesyesohyay10 yeah ovarall yeah Oasis is better, but a performance that year? Verve.

  • proud to be from Wigan x

  • Well Keith Richards and his Rolling Stone mates should donate to The Verve Bitter Sweet Symphony Relief Fund, regardless of what his asshole agent did to the Verve. If you listen to a reporter ask Keith about it, he blows it off by saying that is lawyering crap, but Keith you picked your agent, take responsibility, and show some class. This is one of the great legal tragedies of musical recording history. Richard Ashcroft wrote 98% to 99% of the musical composition. Long live the King Richard!

  • @midkollen It wasn't The Stone's "agent" nor was it their management company that sued The Verve, it was their former publishing company, ABKO. Sadly, back in the day, many of the publishing deals were structured in a manner in a way where groups lost the rights to their music in exchange for much needed cash up front. This is what happened to the Stones. They have no control over that part of their catalogue nor any say in what happens with the licensing of that portion of their catalogue.

  • @midkollen i agree 100% being american we did not here to much about this over here.but i love the verve

  • @midkollen as much as i respect and like the stones, they deserve their status, i actually love their song "the last time". But to me it's a simple matter of ego, of Keith hearing the bittersweet symphony and simply going, "damn look what i could have done !" but he didn't do as you say 98 or 99% this guy made it, there's hundreds of songs that has a few chords that are the same, but with a little twist and nobody does that shit. listem to "beat it" by MJ and revelations audioslave, guitar riff

  • @midkollen What's really sad about that situation is that they had permission from the "Stones" to sample that orchestral piece, but they came back and said "they used too much of it." That case would have been thrown out of court in America!

  • @DNAPAFC its a great country to live in isn't it. We are very lucky.

  • Didn't Keith Richards say at one point (dont remember where I heard) that Richard Ashcroft's song writing is today what John Lennon was then. This is an incredible song and I wish I heard them live!

  • slight tinge of Eddie Vedder in Ashcroft's voice. sick.

  • @ledzedelin Canada has Arcade Fire. I'm not sure anyone else is necessary.

I saw R.A. open for Cold Play during an arena tour. He played with no backing band. It was epic.

  • the crowd looks fuckin awesome with all those flags

and R.A. is awesomeness itself with that guitar and the mic to his heart

  • Inesquecível!!!!!

  • Britain > America

  • ledzedelin I would also add one of my favorites - Yes, and also Genesis, Rolling Stones, Ten Years After, Uriah Heep, Supertramp and the list goes on.

  • Yes we have some of the best don't we, SOME, not all folks, how about: The Doors, Beach Boys, Neil Young, Hendrix, Kiss, Springsteen, Nirvana, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Velvet Underground, Eminem, Madonna, The Black Crows, Pearl Jam, REM, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Prince, Er.............and then there's Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Louis Armstrong, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Miles Davis, Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young, Mama's & Papa's, plus so many more there isn't space....

  • As an American I can say, the Brits definitely have better music than Americans. Americans have louder rock music, but Brits better rock music ;-)

  • @deanwindass10 yea but america has fat people PWNED

  • British music is so much better than american music. Dont get me wrong love Foo Fighters, Nirvana etc. But the way we go about it is so much better. We feel the music more. So in my opinion the Yanks can smoke my balls.

  • Oh noes, America isnt even close to England.. my opinion.

  • i want to wear his guitar

  • I absolutely love this song

  • Si , ustedes los britanicos son lo maximo, mis respetos

  • im playing this when i die as iv been lucky to meet my wife to as thats what the song is about to his wife if you see him live thats what he says shame im not a song writier are id make my own song up before i go ;0)

  • The Verve, best thing to come out of wigan other than me!! ;)

  • Totally underated as a singer/songwriter

an absloute Legend in my eyes

right up there with all the greats from the North West of England !

  • Memories <3 sum chanter, sum choon <3

  • you can criticize, analyse, break down and coldly state a negative opinion about any piece of music, but that doesn't and never will especially in the case of this song, change how great or special it can be.

long live great bands like the Verve

  • 12 people have sex with their mom

  • voll sch****

  • the verve and oasis... they run in my veins

  • I thought this was a video of the verve not oasis?? Talk about oasis on one of their own videos!

  • One of my favorites

  • July 2nd, 2008... this was the place to be

  • one of the best... bring it back

  • Hate to be the one who says it (In fact no I dont) We British have the best music in the world, not saying any other Countries are bad just we got - Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The who, David Bowie, The Clash, Sex pistols, Oasis, The verve, Cold play, Gerry Rafferty, Black Sabbeth, Blur, Radiohead, The cure, The libertines, Pink Floyd also America are fking awesum - Jimmi Hendrix, The doors, Nirvana, Foo fighters... so much more but running out of space :D Britain and America = best music.

  • Comment removed

  • @lepzedelin You forgot Muse.

  • @TheMrSpiff mousse they are history getting worse by the day so commercial

  • @lepzedelin i dont like the doors, nirvana or foo fighters its only noise

  • @lepzed - As a Yank I agree. Brit music 64-75 is KING. Took blues-R&B & sent it back brilliantly re-imagined. The 60's WERE the UK. + Icons: Beat, Who, LZ, Bow, Clap, RoSt, PFlo - Oasis, CPlay, RaHe. No contest.

But the UK can love 100% crap too. So odd. Go crazy for a one-hit wonder, which disappears, so next week you go wild for a new no-talent band, then it fails, ad infinitum. Happens everywhere, but the UK is so small & homogenous that it's more susceptible. Gary Glitter, Bananarama, etc.

  • @lepzedelin fookin hell yeah xxxx

  • @lepzedelin As a Frenchman living in Britain I couldn't agree more mate :) Anglo-Saxon music is awesome, not only pop rock, but also jazz and blues and all that stuff. You can eventually blame Britain for its food but when it comes to music, Britain has definitely got talent :)

"British wine is like French rock n'roll" - John Lennon

  • @lepzedelin As a Frenchman living in Britain I couldn't agree more with you mate :) Anglo-Saxon music is awesome, not only pop rock, but also jazz and blues and all that stuff. You can eventually blame Britain for its food but when it comes to music, Britain has definitely got talent :)

"British wine is like French rock n'roll" - John Lennon

  • @lepzedelin I agree, greetings from Chile.

  • @lepzedelin

yeah exactly you have or ad so many good bands there so can you please send some of them this way to Canada!!!

  • @lepzedelin RHCP n Greed Day are also top quallity bands from over the water m8...

  • @lepzedelin Don't have to tell me twice. I'm a patriotic american and my iPod only has British bands. American music has nothing on British.

  • @lepzedelin im not british but that is true! haha british music leads the culture of rock, a very close second is America! ahha

  • @lepzedelin I agree with you. If I could chose between being british and portuguese, I would definitly chose to be british, except when we defeted you in euro 2004 x)

  • @lepzedelin you didn't mention the greatest of em all: Queen

  • Comment removed

  • @MJBOW1 Oh god no!

  • @lepzedelin You forgot The Stones.

  • @lepzedelin Kasabian, Stone Roses

  • I'm spanish, I love british music! But i think that apart of that the bands are really good, the lenguage I think the most important element that makes these bands be succesfull. thx!

  • @lepzedelin No doubt about it. you Brits can't do much else right but you do produce the best music. Britain made 80's music available for us. Without you, we get stuck with damn lady gaga and Justin Bieber. PLEASE, get some new bands so we can get rid of rap music and this other losers they push on us.

  • @lepzedelin

ya your'e right, the best Music comes out of those two Countries. And this I say as a bloody German.

    Keep on the good Work.

  • @lepzedelin As a proud American, I have no problem agreeing with you...the best bands in the world have always been British. You forgot The Stone Roses. Something about you lot that have the music thing figured out. I suspect it has something to do with the cool brit swagger.

  • @lepzedelin What about Depeche Mode?

  • @lepzedelin You forgot the best of all..........QUEEN!!!

  • @lepzedelin

I fucking love comments like this.

  • @lepzedelin that is so true but then we have the worst coming from america too. miley cyrus, selena gomez, jonas brothers, demi lovato, lady gaga, keisha, fucking justin bieber. should I go on?

  • @Catpotato Bieber is Canadian which makes them also responsible for Celine Dion

  • @lepzedelin i'm from mexico and i got to say you are totally right, i mean i do love pearl jam, nirvana, the ramones, silverchair, foo fighters, and so on, but for some reason british have the best song writers. My theory is that it's got something to do with the weather. it's a reflective weather.r. But it's just a theory.

  • @lepzedelin

I'm Canadian. I completely agree with you.

  • @lepzedelin fuck america, british bands are much better

  • @pdlp13 Fuck America? If it wasn't for us Americans, some of your fav Brit bands wouldn't exist. BTW, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Ray Charles say hello. So do Aerosmith, the Allman Brothers Band, ZZ Top, Television, The Ramones, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, Waylon Jennings, Van Halen, Guns N’ Roses, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Santana, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Heart, R.E.M., Husker Du, Prince and all of Motown and classic rap.

  • @Joelaroc7 Oh, and there's Beck, Black Crowes, the Smashing Pumpkins, the Doors, Pavement, Frank Sinatra, Talking Heads, the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, the Steve Miller Band, KISS, Boston, Frank Zappa, Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, Blondie, Devo, the Replacements, Jane's Addiction, Faith No More, L7, Helmet and the greatest of all songwriters, Bob Dylan. I can mention more American artists in a heartbeat but I think you get the point.

  • @Joelaroc7 *in a sarcastic tone* yeh well we gave the world East 17. Yeh, so you can take all of those amazing artists you just mentioned and stick'em up your arse.

  • @Dougolai Yeah, because those guys ain't got nothing on "artists" like East 17, Spice Girls, Take That, Wham!, Boy George, Boyzone and Westlife.

  • @Joelaroc7 you said it!

  • @Joelaroc7 American oringines are Brit ..... You just have a think about that???

  • @lepzedelin you have the best taste in music aka same as me :)

  • @lepzedelin not to mention The Rolling Stones....

  • @lepzedelin I'll agree. I love Brit bands all those mentioned. However they wouldn't exist without Elvis, Motown, many Blues singers, the Velvets, and don't forget UK's punk rock was influenced by Television, Iggy, and the Ramones. but dammit, you Brits do have a knack for embracing and making that stuff your own.

  • Soo amazing. Goosebumps,man...

  • When im die im a lucky man! U can play this Song on my funeral!

  • fucking awesome!!!

  • gives me chills!

  • best male voice ever.. overcome just by mercury and perhaps liam

  • Good feeling....best ever.....

  • I Feel No Disgrace With Who i Amm.... I cant Describe my feelings I just Love it... Just British Music Can do That.........

  • @IronKdv I get your point but leave out the nationalism. All great music gives that feeling, countries are irrelevant.

  • @HeavySabre70 Is not Nationalism im Colombian I said that coz i Think British music is better that music makes you Fly man i not saying that the Other Music is Bad but its my opinion you know ... I respect your opinion

  • @IronKdv It doesn't matter if u r Colombian.I like alot of bands from the UK too,(Verve, Massive Attack, My Bloody Valentine etc) but I also like certain American groups (Jon Spencer,Beck, Moby etc), Australian groups (Nick Cave & the Bad seeds, AC/DC, The Church etc), French groups (Stereolab,Daft Punk,Air etc).I get a great high from Verve, MBV etc but I can get a great high from Nick Cave records. My point is that one countrie's music is not better than another's.Its about individualism.

  • @IronKdv Why don't you just say that you love bands from the UK? Or that you love The Verve and that they take you to a special place with you tune in? With creative pursuits like music or painting or sculpture or whatever, you can't really say to say one is better than the other.Who is better? Monet or Francis Bacon? Bacon was English and Monet French. They are both amazing artists but they have such different styles. U can't say one is better than the other. Same with music.

  • @HeavySabre70 Mannnnnnnnn!!! Is just my Opinion Im a Fan of British Music man And i will always Say .. British music is Better than Usa... And is my Favorite

  • words cant describe how good this is

  • Urban Hymns is a masterpiece, but Storm in Heaven and Forth are also fantastic Verve albums. Richard Ashcroft is an absolutely brilliant singer, one of the best in the entire UK and the musicians in The Verve are also great...the sound that comes out in their live shows is huge....I hope they regroup and put out another record and tour.

  • Urban hymns was a freak and brilliant album that will never be bettered. I wish he could do it again but I fear it will never happen.

  • Lucky man is that true verve classic - no song sounds like it...stands on its own...pure genius...

    Their greatest song

  • ...best Song ever....

  • My my myyyyyy!!!!!!!! My?

  • good music

  • this song sounds much better on record unlike most of their songs the guitar intro is amazing on the record but its kinda crappy live

  • Happiness more or less

  • 10 GUYS ARE UNLUCKY MEN!

  • Am I the only one that see a lit bit of liam gallagher style in their glasses and voice? he could be easily the new oasis vocal. great band. same oasis generation. Cheerssssss

  • @fedorEight, have they started giving sectioned mentally insane people access to YouTube? Fucking hell! At least there's no sharp edges to harm yerself on! How do you manage to use the laptop in a straight jacket?? Well at least you're not chasin kiddies round the swings no more!! Can just imagine you in ya padded cell rocking back a forth and singing James blunt songs to youself til they think you've calmed down enough for em to let you out fir a little walk. Fucking nut job.

  • awesome!!! perfick

  • everyone seems to talk about how this song is beautiful or about ashcroft's voice, but in my opinion the true genius behind the verve is nick mccabe. his guitar work is otherworldly.

  • the older he gets the more he sounds like liam gallagher.

  • @125possom or is it the more liam gallagher gets.. the more he sounds like richard ashcroft you got it all wrong brotha..

  • @125possom

apart from the fact he was around before Liam !

I think Liam wants to be Richard Ashcroft !

  • AlucInanTe eSTa cancIOn de La pTm... cuandO vendran a peru pa Ir a cOncertO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • still just as good as he was back in the glory days, unlike some others...

  • @pegger18636 liam gallagher?

  • @MrMUGS94 yeah man, I'm a massive Oasis fan and got into the Verve a bit more recently, might seem a bit weird but I'm from Canada so yeah. I know the issue of Liam's voice is a bit tired and overtalked about already but for good reason really, it's just such a shame and a piss off lol. Have you heard the new BE single? Well dumb question, I've gotta say I'm a bit dissappointed though. Anyway it's good to see Ashcroft still gettin it done here in 08, only its too bad they broke for good as well.

  • @pegger18636 its alright its growing on me.

  • brilliant live i love it. please listen to my cover version :) :)

  • wish i hada seen these guys live before they broke up THEY ARE FUKIN AMAZING I LOVE THE VERVE PITY THEY BROKE UP ......:(:(

  • @FedorEight you really have no taste in music clearly, because before you ive never heard a bad thing about The Verve (learn to spell), so stop making you crappy fart "music" and listen to real quality stuff like this, i realise everyone has their own opinion but who couldnt like this :P

  • THE GREATEST (MODERN) BRITISH BAND*

(*that was until they disbanded again)

  • @atrumira Well i would have to say second greatest modern british band ( the greatest is Oasis)

  • @brieflycake

No offense (to each their own) but each time I see Liam's sneering face I want to punch it.

His voice also make me want to Van Gogh my ears.

  • @atrumira Sneering face? What has his expression got to do with what he has done for rock 'n' roll?

  • @brieflycake

Oh-oh...I've swatted the hornet's nest = drawn the ire of some1 who features Oasis for his channel background. I've done it now...

Did I not preempt my reply to you w/ these words: "no offense"?

By stating that I didn't 'appreciate' liam's sneering face, was this in any way a detraction from Oasis' contribution to rock & roll?

I simply dislike liam & especially his attitude. He thinks his shit is golden. At the 11th hr on several occasions he has refused to play at concerts con't>

  • @atrumira > brieflycake con't

And on 1 occasion, after having a stereotypical blowout w/ Noel, he sulked off into the audience, sat next to a fan & heckled Noel/refused to play. Noel went on w/ the concert (& gained my respect for doing so).

As for liam, if I'd been that fan he'd been sitting next to I'd have told him to get his winey/faggy-haired,dick-face down on stage & play what we'd all paid him to do. The gall of this mega-asshole to take his fans' money & then carry on like this.

  • @atrumira >brieflycake con't

liam was also banned from Cathay Pacific related to an incident where he hurled abuse at passengers, threw food around & got in a fight w/ staff & before u say this is cool/life of the rock star, etc I say this is just the trademark of a supreme asshole of the highest order who really needs to be handed his teeth in a little ziploc bag.

P.S. As a vocalist, his range is shite.

P.P.S. Oasis are vastly overrated & are now, artistically, a spent force

    (no offense :D )

  • @atrumira This is exactly the sort of attitude everyone has. No1 actually looks deeper than the surface. Perhaps Liam, when he was young did make mistakes, but they were most probably born of the fact that ever since he was a boy his older brother (noel) constantly put him down and lorded it over him. Therefore the things liam did, such as not going on the USA tour, were probably because he was striving to shake loose of noels control.

  • @atrumira continued: Noel effectively (dont get me wrong, i have massive respect for him) took control of what had been Liams band (as you probably already know, called the rain). This is bound to have pissed liam off. Not because he Noel joined, obviously he wanted him to join, but because he took such control. What Noel wanted, he got. This doesnt make what liam did right, but you should at least look at the roots of what he did, which make it more understandable.

  • @atrumira Perhaps you should ask me first if i have taken offence before drawing your own conclusion. For your information i did not "take offence" i simply enquired about your hatred for Liam. Liam's "sneering face" is part of his performance, its not as if he walks around all day with a sneer. Liam (and noel) have been the last true rock band left until he broke up. All over similar bands had imploded long before. If Liam is such a dick head how come Richard is good friends with him?

  • @brieflycake oasis wrote a song about the verve singer

  • @FunLovingCriminals77 Cool. Which one was it?

  • @brieflycake cast no shadow

  • @FunLovingCriminals77 oh cool, i only recently got into that track. Its pretty good.

  • @atrumira En Latinoamérica la salsa suena tan sofisticado como para ti lo es el género del Rock. Cuidado que hay música buena por todo el Planeta.
