Walt Disney experienced first hand the problems with leftist unions who closed down his magical cartoon movie studios. He experience hateful union mobs and striking employees. He was hurt and surprised by this turn of events. Unions were not for workers then and are not for workers now. Unions are for themselves and their powerful union bosses who become wealthy with the collective dues of union member employees.
"The Liberalisms that really are American". Good distinction. Liberalism IS American, and must not be confused for Communism by morons who don't know America while claiming to defend her.
@mowriter Liberal is a vague term, communism in the United States is Liberal, as is Socialism, but so is Libertarianism which is more or less the polar opposite of marxism. Modern democrats are deemed liberal for their progressive ideas, and because they tend to favor social welfare programs. Whether you agree with it or not, Welfare, Medicare, Medicaid and other such programs are Socialist in principle. However, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and this was one of many gov't mistakes here
@QueenetBowie : well, then, let's keep it to the context of the actual video! Patriotic Americans being called Communists simply because they held (for the time) Liberal beliefs. And clearly Walt distinguished between out and out Communists, and those with liberal (pro-freedom) beliefs. I honestly don't know what McCarthy held as his standard for Communist sympathies...and perhaps that was the point? Unclear, vague, threatening ambiguity?
@mowriter To be fair it was a strange time. It was like slavery and imprisoning the japanese during WWII, we've made a lot of mistakes, We've come a long way. And Disney was just a business man, the 1930's style business man, "Let me keep all the money" business man. Communism was the bane of wealth (and still is)
You cannot fight big government with big government.

Well said, Disney. I heartily agree, Sir. And thank you Senator McCarthy.

Walt was convinced that the infamous strike of 1941 was (partially, at least) the cause of Communism.
