This ship has had poor maintainance for a long time! Just about everyone on the world cruise in 2000 became violently ill due to poor ventillation in the crew quarters which spread to the passengers.
The de-mineralization equipment of the ships water system was always in dis-repair.
P @ O cruises and the present owners have been well aware of my posts since 2000 regarding this ship. misterfact@yahoo.com
I doubt things have improved on the Artemis! They advertised a $10 million refurbish but in my view: "once a rustbucket, always a rust bucket!" The safety staff, maintainance staff and crew
accomodations officer- totally incompetent in 2000!
I shudder to think that those people are still in charge of other ships.
4. Washing machines that leaked- causing 8" of water in the laundry
room: (with no water drain in the floor) a common occurance. The ship was made in Finland and some idiot there in charge decided that a laundry room has no need for a water drain in the floor. I guess he figured that every maintainance staff in the future would replace worn out water hoses in the washing machines in a timely manner! WRONG !!!
It's hard to believe this is an OLD ship. My father worked for Princess from the early 70's til the mid 90's. I must have sailed on her 12 times. I LOVE this ship. I know it lacks a lot of the amenities that passengers want now. But she was one of a kind. Built in 1984....All outside cabins. Two decks of balconies. This ship was a standard setter. Watching this video brings back so many memories. Especially seeing what was the Horizon room. That was the "disco" back in the day. Long may she sail
Came off this ship end of March. Thoroughly enjoyed our cruise (section 5 of Grand Asiatic - Singapore to Cape Twon). Lovely ship and great atmosphere. Have been on Azurra, Ventura, Oceana, Arcadia etc but this one was one of the best. Small can be good! Smashing video brought back some happy memories. Shame the ship is going over to the Germans now.
I never knew Artemis was formerly Royal Princess. Guessing it's no coincidence that the ship due to replace her soon, Adonia, is currently sailing under the name of .... ?!?!
@haraheta1 - i, my name is Mauro Soru and i worked on Royal Princess in the same time as second cook, i worked also on the sea princess and i spent about 3 years between those two ships, beautiful time impossible to forget
Are all P&O ships like this? I'm going on a school trip and we're driving down to Hull and then going from there to Zeebrugge. Will mine be like this?
I was on the Artemis when it was the last cruise with Princess when it used to be the Royal Princess. You know this little ship used to be the biggest ship in the world in 1989?
Looks pretty sweet. Looks very formal too... If one was looking to take a cruise for the night life (women :) and some all night bar action is it a good option? You hear so many bad reports about P&O its hard to get a good idea if youv'e never been. Ive heard bars close early, bad food, and not enough seating in most areas if ship is booked. Also heard bad things about cabin noise and vibration.
Just came back from a wonderful cruise to Bruges, Artemis is a beautiful ship, the pools are gorgeous and the people are so lovely and can't do enough!!! booking our next cruise tomorrow on Arcadia, but Artemis really was a classy ship, having a balcony too made the trip even better! very good video, well made!
I went on the Artemis last month for a 15 night transatlantic cruise to the Eastern Caribbean. Its a great traditional ship with the huge added bonus of it being a child- free ship. Its a shame that P&O have sold it. I hope the replacement ship lives up to the Artemis!!
Hi! I reaaaaaally want to go on a cruise. Me and my mum (im 12) really want to go on Ventura on a meditteranean cruise but my dad says no :( its looks so cool!
i had my first cruise on this ship when she was Royal Princess on a cruise to Norway in 2003. is great that some1 has made a proper film of this beautiful ship THANX :)

That's is just for starters. I sent photos and horror stories to the
Coast Guard. Never heard back from them. Princess was and still is the "McDonalds"
of cruises. Poor maintainance of EVERYTHING on the ship: water drains,
decks, etc. They don't remove rust from deck rails and other metal
parts on upper decks. THEY JUST PUT WHITE PAINT OVER THE RUST!
misterfact100 5 months ago
7. Lint and paper trash (fire hazard) behind the clothes dryers in laundry rooms. 8. Every two or three days- the smell of sewer gas throughout the
ship! 9. NO LIFEBUOYS ON UPPER 2 DECKS! No floatation devices,
what-so-ever on those decks! If someone fell overboard from the ship
or from another ship while at port- you have to run 400' to either end
of the ship and dowm 2 flights of stairs to get to a lifebuoy or anything that might float!
misterfact100 5 months ago
All that bacteria-ladden water is probably sloshing around at the bottom of the ship ready to rust out the hull and let sea water in!!
5. Leaking rusted water pipes in the ceiling corridors. 6. Food with no flavor. con't

All I can say is that I was a crew member on the Royal Princess (now the Artemis) in 2000 and what I saw was:
1. Overflowing toilets 2. Plugged shower drains (overflowing showers)
3. Loose upper deck floorboards (tripping hazzard)

i worked in the galley during the maiden voyage to South Pacific and Asia
in 1987,no doubt that at the time the MV Royal Princess was the best
cruise ship in the world!i spent two years of my life there and no
regret at all!hard work of course but lot of fun!
Best regards to all the former crew of Royal Princess!

I can see why P&O have sold this ship. She is very dated compaired to a modern vessel.

nightmare down stairs in the engine room. Too old.
lampost1 3 years ago
Why would you go to the engine room?
TRWolf 3 years ago
To earn money. I'm a marine engineer. Ships dont run themselves lol
lampost1 3 years ago
I worked in that ship back in the 90's, it was still P&O Royal Princess. I had a real good time round Europe, Baltic and Acapulco-Sn Juan.
It sure was kind of a thing to get used to sleep on E-Deck, can't imagine the engine room.
