  • Pugs are very SMART.

my little guy does the usual stuff - sit, stay, come, crawl, rollover, high five, shake hands.

    and more ...

i can get him to find my other slipper or shoe.

if his water is out, he tells me by barking politely.

when we play fetch, he puts the toy directly on my hand.

when i say 'clean up time', he picks up all his toys and puts them in his toy basket.

best of all, my little guy plays soccer. i kick the ball and he rolls it right back to me.

    so yeah. smart.

  • My little girl is very smart, but stubborn as a mule sometimes.

  • How often do you need to walk the dog and how long ? :)

  • gosh, all of these comments make my late pug sound so smart!! haha

but seriously, she learned how to sit, shake, rollover, beg, wait, come, and speak.

I remember when I taught her shake - it took, honestly, no more than half an hour. I just did the trick over and over until she started doing it without me actually touching her leg. And, that was after like the tenth time, so pretty quickly!!

Mollie was a very smart dog, and she just so happened to be a pug!! :) rip little muppet xo

  • i am having so much trouble with my pug.

the whole no punishment thing doesn't work. but i don't punish too much anyways because i'm not a harsh person.

so she thinks she can just get away with things, but when she gets a reward, that's a bonus !

  • Pugs Do not learn fast. I have had a few and tried to train more, they are rather stupid and take much much repetition to teach a simple trick!

  • @SuperGeekInc They're not stupid, they are just a stubborn breed. Perhaps you are the stupid one that can't seem to teach a simple trick.

  • @SuperGeekInc

You must be an idiot. We got a pug for $300 and just because he doesn't learn things on the first try doesn't mean he's stupid. He is VERY obedient and now listens very well.

There are no bad students, just bad teachers and YOU, sir, are a horrible teacher.

  • @numbah16 thats really messed up. He's is probably a better teacher than YOU.

  • @TheKgirl2114

    How so?

  • @numbah16 sir may i ask you something? i want to teach my pug to stand up like say stand up and when he will sit to stand up sit in to his 2 legs he knows to do give me five and give me his hand can you tell me pls ? thank you

  • My dog is turning three this June... He only knows how to sit and wait for food/treats. I tried teaching him how to shake and roll over. He just stares at me. Is there an easy way to teach him those tricks?

  • does gentle leader collars work on pugs?

  • They make ones for the smooshy faced dogs. I would recommend a harness. If your pug pulls a lot on walks just change direction or stop until they calm down. It may take a while but after a bit the pulling will lessen and eventually stop=)

  • my pug had an eye removal surgery at around four months of age...i think that maybe this is a reason why it is so hard to house train him and he is easily distracted and just honestly does not seem to care about anything...how can i teach a dog who might have something wrong, mentally.

  • For house training, it is a matter of watching him like a hawk indoors and getting him outdoors before an accident happens. Have him on leash indoors so he will stay close. If he starts showing signs of needing to wee or poo take him out and lavish him with a praise and a treat when he does his business. Consistency is most important.

  • I used your book to train my chihuahua puppy, he is 7 months old now and VERY well behaved. However, I just got a pug puppy- she is 4 months old. Its a real hassle training her, it seems that she is not as smart as my chihuahua.. I can't even get her to learn how to "shake". I am a good trainer, as you can see in my video, I am currently strength-training my chihuahua how to do a handstand.. Any advise with my new pug?
