RIP Luciano Pavarotti--i didn't care about opera until i heard this man sing-and i adored some of his wonerful "friends" singing concerts to raise money for charity--stars like ricky martin--mariah carey;placido domingo;stevie wonder;and many ;many more--some of these shows were broadcast on PBS
@melollylolly Thats how I was about opera until I heard Beverly Sills sing! This was just recently and now I listen to opera all the time. And Im only 17!
@Pectoris4 oh yes her, I embarassed myself TERRIBLY, a site I was once on, had her listed as living as feb. 2007, as my mom mentioned her in summertime, (I knew her from night at the opera), I shouted out "she's still living!" she relipied "no she's not, she's dead, died recently"
F$#K! all I can say, would've had 100th on sept 3 2010.
RIP Joseph Barberra, Yvonne Decarlo, Mike Evans, Bob Carrol Jr., Steve Irwin, Peter Boyle, Luciano Pavarotti, and Merv Griffin. Boy, was that an even worse year for celebs who were on TV..
Do you mean John Inman? He was known from British television so he'd have to be pretty famous (we're talking Rowan Atkinson/John Cleese-level here) for him to be mentioned at the EMMYs.
@filmidioten As a fan of "Are You Being Served?", the British department store comedy which became such a hit in the USA thanks to Public Television, I agree that the unforgettable John Inman deserved to be recognized. But let's face it. In such tributes, there is always someone who will be overlooked. It is a difficult task to remember everyone.
WTF? No Dabbs Greer? I can't believe they'd leave out the guy who played Rev Alden on Little House on the Prairie, but they'd still include a producer?!
This memoriam was only showing people who died before september 2006 that's why there was no Dabbs Greer, Darlene Conlay, Robert Altman etc cause they died 2007 not 2006. Though Robert Altman died in september 06, so they probably just missed him.
Think it's a crying shame that Joseph Barbera did not get a massive round of applause, considering all the shows he helped create.

I note the omission of Kitty Carlisle, long time quiz show panelist who died that year at age 96
