What an ending! Love banished the evil darkness and created Belle's (and Disney's) perfect mate: a rich, handsome, white male. Belle fell in love with THE BEAST, not Prince Charming. She was HAPPY to be with a grotesque monster. That was the point of the film -- love overcoming ugly. But Disney HAD to make him a white rich male. The message being, of course, that rich white males are BETTER than BEASTS. Yet the point of the movie was that one's appearance shouldn't matter. Why, Disney? Why?

The big swell in the music at the end made me cry. This is a really truly beautiful fairytale. I love it so much. I remember having the bed set and the book and some of the toys. I was all about this movie when I was little. Such a beautiful story. A happy ending. Awwwwww.

Beauty and the Beast is the BEST. One of the BEST Disney movie ever. Belle's motivation is very mature: finding something greater than herself. And it's great when you see that what she's been looking for is in the last place you'd expect! Also, Gaston's a wonderful villain, the side characters are hilarious, and the story is so well put together, that sometimes you forget that you're watching a movie! Disney needs to make more of this stuff. Bring back the old-school animation!

Seriously, it's the combination of the full choir singing the theme, those lyrics and then when the horns pipe in and it turns into a stained glass picture of them....this just seems like the most timeless and classy ending to any Disney Film. Here's something interesting- the final animation of Belle and the Prince is actually reused animation from the final dancing scene from "Sleeping Beauty". The animators just cleaned it up and changed some of the colors and features.

Something I just realized that further illustrates Disney's boss animation ability- you can actually see the prince's facial structure, nose, and of course, eyes, in the beast's face. Also, has anyone ever noticed how pretty much all the scenes in which the beast is saying or doing something important, the camera takes a glance at his eyes? Disney really played up the whole "eyes are the window to the soul" thing with him. It's the one thing about the prince that never changed. I love that!
