Before they stick me in the ground I plan to sing this song in front of a live audience with this scene from the movie, "Heavy Metal", playing in the background...I'll surf the crowd during the guitar solo....:-) Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio....rules !
@101Restoration I was 6 years old when i saw it, it was on HBO and me and my sister snuck out of our rooms to see it late nite in our living room when our parents were asleep,
and the first thing to come outa my mouth was....."this is like no cartoon i ever seen" LMFAO

Here's an idea for a Heavy Metal AMV with video game music. Take this scene (the entire battle sequence starting with "to the council chamber" right before starting the music) and put it to Green Jelly's 16-bit rendition of 'The Mob Rules' from the soundtrack to the Super NES game 'Spiderman & Venom: Maximum Carnage' (it's the song that plays when you fight Carnage).
Loved this movie since i was 12 in 93 watching it on TBS with Vampire Hunter D, Rock and Rule, Robot Carnival and American Pop as they rocked my world. I even bought HM on video when it hit stores in my malls when i was 15 and bought the osundtrack too, i had a huge crush on Taarna as she's up there with Cheetara. Can't wait for the new movie! this movie with Akira and Ghost in The Shell were my teenhood faves that i still enjoy at 29.
This version is different that the "Mob Rules" album version. Is this version on the movie soundtrack, or is it the MR version? If it is on the soundtrack, I will go out and buy it, immediately.
@kyokogodai The different version (the one that is in the movie) is on the soundtrack. But not the extended E5150 intro. I would definitely get it. The version is amazing (a little more live, raw and heavy) and there is a lot of other cool music on it as well.
if they go through with that third film with james cameron, sack snider, guiermol del toro, david fincher and rob zombie they should remake this with the town in cgi and the invaders in normal 2d handrawn style showing that 2d kicks cgi's ass
Yes that would be awesome and i hear the new movie will have different animation in each of the 10 stories such as 2D handdrawn, CGI, Clay, Stop Motion, Flash and anime in each one. They should hire Yoshiakta Kawajari (Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, Animatrix and Wicked City) or Katushiro "Akira" Otomo for a segment, Will Vinton for a Clay segment, Henry Selleck (Nightmare Before Christmas) for a stop motion segment etc. how about it?
@Johnlindsey289 Yes and Akira Toriyama(Dragon Ball),Ralph Bakshi(Fire and Ice,Wizards), Sho Fumimura(fist of the North Star), Masamune Shirow (Ghost in the shell) , R.Crumb (Fritz the cat) and Matt Groening (Futurama) should all write segments for the film that would be sweet!
Good choices! how about Peter Chung (Korean animator/designer) who made Aeon Flux and Animatrix for a segment? afterall Heavy Metal is an influential magazine and movie as they spawned many things like Blade Runner, The Fifth Element, Avatar, The Matrix, and many more.
@Demon, i thought the tarna stuff was slow as well, but effective! - a different feel... and i liked PLENTY of time watching tarna, keep it as slow as you want... if you see how they modeled her and the ACTUAL model they used for her and how they did this film, and this part of it as you mention, you would better understand...
its all so CGI and rip offish these days that i think they should advertise NO CGI and put that as some kind of label on movies these days...
I agree but it's early rotoscoping which means it's not as good as the same CGI rotoscoping used in Avatar or Lord of the Rings Trilogy. If you like this movie, i recommend these similar movies: Akira, Ninja Scroll, Wizards, Fire and Ice, Starchaser Legend of Orin, Ghost in The Shell, Fist of the North Star, Fritz The Cat, South Park The Movie, Fantastic Planet, Rock and Rule, Princess Mononoke, Wicked City, Heavy Traffic, Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend, Golgo 13 etc.
@Johnlindsey289 Ok, did not know. And yes, I have seen almost all of those movies, ant they are all exceptional. Of the ones I have seen, my fave is a tie between Akira and Ghost in the Shell. Do check out GITC: Innocence if you get a chance.
Does this segment remind you of an r-rated Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind? same stuff of futuristic world, a prophecy of a female warrior to save the world from evil and these barbarians are like the Tomekians. Have you seen Avatar? very similar to HM (both magazine and movie) as Cameron is a fan of both and used it as some of the elements for his new movie along with Last of the Mohicans, Dune, Star Wars, Nausicaa and Ghibli movies, Fantastic Planet, Lightyears etc.
@Johnlindsey289 Although I am a slavering anime fan, I have never, I am ashamed to admit, seen Nausicaa. I have seen most of Miyazaki's (sp?) films, but I have yet to see it. I did see Avatar however, and I have to say, it is one of the greatest movies ever.
Cameron was influenced by both Den and Taarna and even the visuals with the world, story and creatures are like out of the magazine and 1981 movie. Do you think Taarna could win in a fight with Neytiri?
the first time i saw this movie, i was waiting (not knowing what songs were in the movie) the whole time to hear some black sabbath. then when this scene came and all hell broke loose all matter of evil creatures parading the streets with chaos, the voice of Ronnie James Dio blew my friggin mind, this was the best part of the whole movie!!!
This movie was the shit! I wish I could find the original comic book versions, especially Gremlins/B17. South Park did an homage to HM in the Cheesing episode, too.
before any youngsters chime in blasting me with whatever filth they listen to today, calling metal or thrash, i just wanna say one thing. this to me seems like the eraliest example of what we called in the 80s-speed metal, or thrash. it looks like it evolved from this super fast shit.
Juanjo, esa película es de dibujos animados, del año 1981 y se llama simplemente Heavy Metal. Si puedes hacerte con ella en cualquier formato, no dudes: buenísima de punta a cabo.
This scene was so great! Wish you had the clip from when the volcano erupts and everyone gets turned unto radioactive monsters to where they are breaking down the inner scantum and they kill the elders.

And another thing, why doesn't this city have a standing army, or even a police force? And later into the short, why does the kid start to brace the doors only when the barbarians are in the building? Why didn't he do it right when the city was attacked? If these jackasses are that stupid, maybe they deserved to die. I love this movie, but that city is just so stupid!
@Dramph, unless these tarakians are like jedi or something and she did get around to doing some super hero stuff and even sacrificing herself like jesus-obi wan...
funny comment, good one in any case...
i also think they did some excalibur rip off in this part of the movie... the sword imagery and ritual... great film, my favorite animated movie of all time, i've largely avoided all animated movies, still waiting for more ANTI-disney type movies more in line with HEAVY METAL

I just want to point something out. since this is a desolate future, and resources are scarce, wouldn't it be really expensive to make spikes instead of bullets? I mean sure, it's a lot scarier, but it would be really hard to manufacture.
