  • SLOW

  • I hope they will implement the MeeGo UI Concept from Nokia... It looked just amazing...

  • not so smooth...

  • i hope they finish it soon cause i want it so bad

  • Fucking slow

  • bdw how is he charging the phone lol

  • i dnt understand this logic what is the point of releasing a video which gives negative perception of this os then people who want nokia to survive argue its at an early stage and all so why release such a video wtf!

  • @sun131089 most likely it is to create a response. And the response they are looking for is feedback. Because the Marketing department of Intel/Nokia could collect new data and revise their product.

  • @sun131089 to show whats been done so far, duh!

  • Premature OS..needs time still

  • Put to full-screen mode and go to 1:05 and look at Y when he presses C...weird...

  • Why not you implement multitasking just like in Maemo?

I think that is best (for multitasking manager).

  • @dragonny4master Nvm, I saw that they improved in 1.1

  • lol its not the real OS.

give it time ffs... it's just beta

  • very slow +1 !

  • cool shit

    lol you have no contacts...

  • the dialer app should work with sideways swipe to navigate between call history, dialer, address book etc. Having the upper bar as the only way to go between them makes use with one hand impractical.

  • will meego work on 5800?

if not what are the requirement for the handset version?

    thanks

  • Can I install this on my HTC Desire?

  • "The PictureApplication allows us to see Photos" WHOHAA, pretty awesome -.-

First App that represent MeeGo is the PictureApp? ^^

  • tak tak tak silde ^^ - slow Engine! UI? Dont know, but this isnt intuitive. Design? Ok, a preversion that shows funktion, but:

Nokia, you ruled the Mobilephone Market for years - what happens that you are 3 Years too late with this stuff. Look at Andorid, iPhone OS4 and last but not least Windows Phone 7

I saw Symbian Developments that where way better than this wannabe ;) But at first: Solve your hardware problems, either your N97 feel like a 49$ Phone.

  • realy low shit Nokia realy... thats amazing fail...

mega slow OS mega low speed everything suxx and watch that screen? hahaha more light grey then black..

  • Probably running loads of debug software on the background. That's why it's running that slow. Hope it get's a lot faster...

  • i take back what i said about meego looking ugly. if you head on down to Softpedia, you'll see some alleged UI screenshots of meego. looks extremly nice. kudos to nokia and intel :)

  • this shit will never be as good as android.

  • looks incredibly like android, it looks good, but i think intel/nokia will not get what they are attempting to, beating android.

  • meego is looking pretty ugly at this stage...wonder what the final nokia version will look like...perhaps something like the pre-alpha tablet version? one can only hope.

  • Please make the slide to unlock smoother because it's really bad if it's not smooth. And in my opinion, the meego's UI is uglier than maemo's UI. The landscape mode of the homescreen really ugly because of the bottom bar. And the apps menu's UI is the worst because it looks like a chinese replica of an iphone and it's 3x4 not 4x4 or 4x5. MAEMO IS BETTER THAN THIS!!!

  • android wannabe

  • @BlazeMan2010

Android isn't a true open source OS.

  • Will the keyboard have word surgestions displayed like Androi/windows mobile & iphone, is yes GREAT, it no WHY.

  • hi

    youtube meegoexpert

you can seea nokia meego ui

  • i can see the black mouse icon~

  • its pritty good.but PLEASE LET THERE BE VSYNC so we can experience some smooth operatability..

i hate the laggy scrolling and unlock slides!

  • HOW THE EFFF IS THIS THING CHARGING?!?

  • hiding the bottom bar may confuse lot me dumb people! By the way , nokia has their own meego ui

  • Looks promising, the applications grid should be 4x4 though.

  • Hei

the device is not from nokia or intel, theu use it for testing,

  • What are the specifications on this phone? The device appears to lag a bit.

  • How is Meego any different or better than Android?

  • @BruhMan1969 its basically a desktop OS on a cellphone. Whether or not this is "better" remains to be seen, but I have a feeling that Android will be more functional thanks to developer support (apps) when compared to Meego.

  • this current ui is simple for mass market to understand, it is also targeted to geeks with desktop class app and games

  • I was very exited to see the the MeeGo tablet experience, but this.. ..bores me to death.

  • Not as fluid as maemo 5!

  • i love

    micro browser

    transmission

    snes emulator

    vlc

  • yes, little things do matter these days

nokia underestimate the power of eye candy

  • @Ibodnano Yep, and do I have to say, they always have? Just look at Symbian.

But I am hoping though, that they actually THINK this time, and optimizes it like hell, and makes the interface smooth and slick, and also put in a few features android and iOS doesn't have... An easy to use and rich app-store is very important, and they have to do a lot of work and make as many partners as they can.. Also, they have to release it on slick-looking devices, not plastic bricks..Im hoping they listen now.

  • @cfm247 well Meego is suppose to be the final build of Maemo, so Meego is basically Maemo 6.

Right now, the best handset Nokia has for offer is the Nokia N900 running Maemo 5, and it has GREAT potential, it's smooth and very fast and everything about the phone is just pure awesome. I own one and can tell you that with confidence. The problem is that Maemo 5 will be ditched, as their final project from all the previous Maemo builds is to create Meego in the end. So ya............

  • it looks really gd and a suggestion is to make it more attractive visually...u can put more animations i have a nokia x6 nd the little animations are rally fun and appealing...as they say the little things matter :)

  • windows phone 7 looks sooooo much better

  • windows phone 7 looks sooooo much better

  • my opinion is that meego team try to make the ui as simple and appealing as possible to suit the mass market need, dont forget meego is still the computer os on mobile phone, i am sure you wont miss nice ui that other os have

  • They should do the n900 multitasking thing it was a LOT better!

  • Suggestion: make it more visually attractive and engaging. It looks very dull as a first impression, but in reality its a great OS.

  • This doesn't look too promising. Sure, it's a pre-release but still.. Appears laggy and not too handsome. Why all the video edits? Did the UI crap out or take 10 minutes to do something? Sucks, because I hate both apple and android and would like to see Nokia on top.

  • soo slow !!!

  • It is easy to use actually It is because nokia and intel want their meego to target mass market hence they need to chnage the maemo style

the ui looks fine to me, it looks a bit like mac os x desktop to me,

they need to get the best ui from their competitors os, and combine it into one , which we call it meego ui

some commenter at engadget call it

iwebdroid 7 , it is cool, it is the king of mobile os and the future of obile os as well

  • Why they needed to make it so difficult to use? Looks slow when effects drags behind (okay, not final version but still). And so many buttons all over the UI. You need to click and click almost everywhere just to get simple stuff done. MeeGo does not look (or feel, in phone) good distribution. I was very dissapointed when I tested it. Moblin (MeeGo) works well in Netbooks, but in smartphones it is not so wise. They should use KDE Plasma Mobile!

  • I hope intel and nokia marketing team is good

  • we cant say it will be laggy n slow in a Nokia phone. :-)

and u cant say it's ugly. what you see is not how it looks like to your eyes. we wil c how it competes other OS later. truhponen :-)

  • Looks a lot like METRO UI from microsoft...

  • work to be done for october release

widgets space, which can be accessed by hide the switcher by flicking vertically,

small changes to the looks of icons, theme,

    hope beetter than maemo5

  • the application menu window should not cover all the screen real estate , let us see some of the widgets and wallpaper in the background

  • meego gestures i have found,

pinch out out bod in to change card view to grid view when in open app view

flick vertically to make open app view to go away! And back to homescreen , will flick vertically again in homescreen to take me to open app view again?

  • 0:45, alter video much?

  • Wow, excited to see how Nokia and Intel carry this on, I love the UI, more industrial than web 2.0 style UIs. Great stuff.

  • looks great for an pre alpha

it would be great though to integrate 2 user interfaces like in the meego tablet os

-one advanced graphical UI for faster multimedia accessing

-one simple UI for applications and basic functions

    this would be awesome

nevertheless, even if this will not happen, i would prefer using meego rather than google surveillance with android

ill keep my fingers croosed for meego

  • if all u android lovers or iphone lovers want to see wat meego really is look up maemo 5 on youtube then look up moblin 2.1 or the lggw990 and put the two os together n u get meego haters

  • just wait till the final release is out meego suppose to be a higher os then maemo n maemo os is better then any os out there yall need to read developer preview n900 ftw android n iphone fagboys

  • interesting part will be on the final part not the pre alpha

  • boring

  • Given the Aava device and Meego operating system are both prototypes, I think the look, feel and functionality are really good. Once it gets to production, Meego is going to be very competitive with anything out there. I should hope that Nokia, Intel and Wind River read these comments to help improve the product even more. Nice job. I am looking forward to getting one of these system!

  • The version 1.1 will be released on October after the announcement of meeo phone at nokia world 2010

  • android rulez :D

  • people who say it's lags and all c'mon people the os is in a very very early stage obviously it's unstable...give it a few more months i'm sure it'll be super fast and responsive then i'm sure that i'll be buying one when a meego phone releases bye symbian,hi meego!=)

  • I have a great idea

the bottom bar icons should be made look like Thinner buttons images like sms call mail, contacts, setting ,,, these buttons images will become longer when in landscape mode!

Let us drag out the app menu from the bottom bar! And then the buttons images is put on top of the app menu! To close the app menu by pulling the menu down!

    Patent it nokia

  • The other video show that

you can swipe keyboard layout to change to another language keyboard layout!

Open application card view is something like cover flow

  • UI is laggy because it's an early release. However, the startup time for Fennec was impressively fast. It takes a lot longer for me to load up Fennec in Maemo, a finished OS. Either it's loaded upon startup (great) or we're seeing how fast the OS really can be, potentially. I think the interaction paradigm looks unique, intuitive, and quite promising. Can't wait for more.

  • That would be great if we can flick the bottom bar to show the menu bar and flick down to close it Filled with icons when in landscape mode please

  • Can some commenters see the the pre alpha stage? It is just show the ideas of meego on handset!

  • meego绝对王者,iphone os 像小孩玩的,开源实在棒了

  • looking like symbian. oh suck.

  • Comment removed

  • terrible.

  • Wow, this is the joint effort between Intel and Nokia? It's slow and lags. Nowhere near as fluid as the Bada OS on the Wave and the Android OS on the Galaxy. What is it running on? 600 mhz?! Geez.

  • really cool

  • if the bottom bar is neccesary

then make the icons on the bar wider to fill the whole bar when in landscape mode!

    Or perhap make it scrollable

    make its height shorter

thanks, meego is auesome and perfect if meego team listen to me

  • @Ibodnano or maybe the bottom bar can hide down?.. landscape or portrait mode,,

  • lol you edited 1:57, why?

  • Maemo 5 FTW

  • this icons grid menu is not the homescreen

    my good suggestion is

    1

why not make the height of bottom bar shorter ??? I know the widgets space should be placed above the bottom bar, shorten the height of bottom bar to allow more space for widgets

    2

Why not make its content scrollable in portrait and landscape mode( so it is full of icons on the bar when in andscape mode)

take your action now, meego team

  • Absolute gash, iPhone 4 anyone?

  • How much of the software will be open? Can I compile and run my own applications? Can I ssh in to ths phone and get root access?

  • Kinda disappointed... i think imma go to HTC for 2 years, until Nokia with meego can catch up and surpass other smartphones..

  • Why not ?

    The more os the merrier

this is os made by nokia and intel, a upgraded maemo5 and moblin, they are not new actually

  • Comment removed

  • This is just pre alpha

    this is not complete version

this is not on nokia phone

this cant be judged now cause it is for only developers

this is gonna rock the mass market with its simple ui and the most powerful os

    this is only only preeeeeeeeeeeeeevieeeeeeeewwwwwwwwww

  • Maemo had better color theme.

BTW Why do you type so slowly?

    Do you have lags?? :P

  • 1 Launcher (something like a menu button in symbian, to close, just to tap the same iocn again )

2 Switcher (multitasking view, you can access to it by tap the home icon in the top left of each application), you can multitouch to change the card view to grid view, interesting! what more you can flick vertically to access to homescreen widget view!)

in widgets view, you can flick horizontally to next page of widgets, sound cool

  • Nokia rocks!!!

  • such an ugly buggy looking OS.

  • @showofdeth

this is a preview for developers

judge it when the final version arrive

  • Does meego need physical buttons in the phone front for call, end , home and displaying open apps?

Hope it is like mamemo5 which does not need any button on the front view

still wonder how do we do to bring out the open apps and

  • will be waiting for the n900 version, i hope its dual boot.

  • Or... u could jst get an iphone...? its 10x better than this crap. Dont be cheap. Now every smartphone wants to be like the iphone. So true

  • @JankyJo i dont what to let know steve where i am..... i want to do with my phone what i want not what steve want....

  • @JankyJo

What are you talking about cheap?! The new Nokia device will probably cost $500-600 without a contract in the US.

  • Maemo seems to be so much better. I hope Meego will be able to reach his Father.

I'll give it a try on my N900 when it will be more mature, but actually I can't see why should I switch from Maemo to Meego, could someone tell me why?

  • Why is it charging? I mean how or is that a bug?

I hope the actual device has a Hardware Dialer Button.

  • Is it just me or does anyone else see a mouse cursor on the screen?! Come on - maybe just 10 more lines of code!

  • If you demand more eye candy... youre insane

  • We should be glad that the geek os is now made for the mass market without losing its powerful features

  • It's pre-alpha, how can you expect it to bee super smooth and fast...? "Just incomplete yet" No shit sherlock!?! WTF people?

  • For your information, meego has fennec vlc, games emulator, skype, and the qt

  • Do not judge it first! It is just an introduction for the developers! It is in pre alpha stage

  • You all will love it when you see it on nokia meego phone this year at nokia world! Best web browser, best spec! Combine best of other os ui! Hater is gonna love it

  • This phone's crap. Why dont' u use the better phone.

    MeeGo in tablet looks GREAT.

but MeeGo in this phone looks like shit.

  • At least be creative. it totally looks like iPhone multiple tasking -.- but more leggy and noobish.

  • @manzoorboy06 iPhone Is Not Creative. The App Folders Feature On iOS4 Is Exactly The Same Thing Symbian Has Been Doing For Centuries LOL

  • Nokia is trying too hard

  • Just incomplete yet

  • Do not judge the meego first !!!

  • What are the specs of this phone?

  • too slow ...

  • it even says aava phone handset guess they cant read lol

  • developers preview to all u idiots out there basickliy android n iphone fagboys comments lol u all are lame

  • so slow... very slow rotation, very laggy browser, unlock has just about 5 fps...

  • @elksalmon84 Dude, this isnt even an actual Nokia phone they're trying on. They have JUST ported MeeGo on a handset device. This is just an overview of how it is supposed to look on mobile devices. This video cant be used to demonstrate speed, processing, or anything like that as its the PRE-ALPHA version. just wait until they come up with an actual Meego Smartphone in 2011 Q1.

  • @Panhead1993

it's just half a year to 2011 Q1. looking back on quality of development of other nokia projects - i doubt it will be more well optimized than what we have on this video.

i'm a programmer myself and i can tell - the software should be designed to be efficient from the beginning. in other way it will take very very long time to rewrite it.

s60v5 shows it well, Ovi Maps shows it well, S60 Browser shows it well as well...

  • @elksalmon84

yup, true but they will ANNOUNCE their 1st meego phone in Q1, it will be released later. Like N8 that was announced in Q2 and is releasing in Q3. And as u should have noticed, S^3 has improved ALOT since their 1st demo and there's less lag now. all this was in just 2 months. they still have 2 more to go. Same with meego. and this phone isnt a Nokia phone and MIGHT not have enough specs to run MeeGo properly. And they're just developing it so they have about 9-10 months to work it up

  • @Panhead1993

nokia mobile computer department boss has confirmed meego phone to be shipped within this year

  • It's pre-alpha so ya of course it's going to have some bugs.

  • That is so f*king ugly ui! :D Hope there is coming more changes...

  • I think it's slowest operating system that I saw. :))

Those from Nokia or made to laugh again. :))

  • on closer inspection the device seems to be charging.... BUT, it does not appear to be connected to anything, e.g there are no cables connected. Could it be that it is being charged wirelessly. HHmmmm.. intresting.

  • Nokia is orrible!!

    W samsung galaxy S!!

  • It looks like something between iPhone and WindowsPhone 7. Nothing new absolutely. Another iPhone clone.

  • naj! me quedo con Android toda la vida!

  • Give us The Panorama desktop back!

  • I really don`t hope that the MeeGo UI is really going to look like this!

Maemo 5 looked so much better!

This doesn`t look like an OS for high-end smartphones,

looks more like an OS for starter phones

    UGLY!

    Shame on you nokia!

I think I`m going to buy an N900 instead of waiting for this crap

  • mmmm.... maemo looks a lot better than this (i know alpha version bla bla bla)

  • i hope this is not the final version..it isnt bad..but doesnt seem to offer anything better than android(iphone os sucks since has no flash support and bluetooth sharing anyway). also i find it laggy here-i hope it doesnt work this way.

  • Should have used HW w/ a faster processor - loved seeing Fennec at the end!

  • lol, Android is better than this.

    just sayin'

Gingerbread will have a better UI then iPhone.

  • @zaffe93

How do you know? Already have you experienced Meego? how jealous of Nokia!

These guys are nuisance and don't shut up!

  • @lacp69 Actually, you CAN already experience meego on the N900.

  • I have a N900 and i've always had Nokia phones. Anyway this OS really seems to suck compared to Android or Iphone. It's really laggy and if this is only because it is far from finished, then Nokia is late because Google and Apple are taking the market, and already have a large application support. Unfortunately for the first time i'm going to get a non-nokia phone, it seems that Nokia's kingdom is falling.

  • Nice. Works quite smoothly as first build.

  • This the just an introductiopn of what the meego phone ui is like

dont jugde its performance and speed

do you really think it is worst than maemo5?

  • if Nokia plans to put this crap in their handset, Apple and Android have nothing to worry. I understand why Nokia is in the ditch. They should fire all their geeks

  • @gatesbuster

Idiot, it's a alpha version. For the start it isn't bad.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh my god people!

    It's laggy and slow because it's pre-alfa.

It's ugly because it's the standard UI. I'm sure Nokia is developing their own UI variant somewhere behind closed curtains.

The same difference is with Android devices the standard UI is uglier than these Sense and Motoblur UI's.

  • @truhponen2 Do you really believe that? I don't know a Nokia that is fast. Every single one of the finnish phones are slow as hell.

  • nice but touchpad meego on a handset will be perfect

  • after using android for over a month now Meego looks really dated.

  • Interface is ugly, and the software is laggy. First, S60v5, then Maemo, and now MeeGo. Nokia just can't come up with a decent touch UI to take on the iPhone and Android.

  • NICE TRICK ,, hehehehe

  • not impressed. looks too retro.

  • I'm really looking forward to seeing MeeGo devices on the market... Sure it is pre-alpha but it looks laggy. I hope some performance tweaks are in the works.

  • Laggy because of Not yet complete.

  • Looks ugly, really laggy, illogical and difficult to use. Just like Maemo :-( Designer by engineers for engineers, not for Joe Average. Come on Nokia & Intel, you can do better than that!

  • still looks a bit laggy to me. :( And the bars at top/bottom for when you go to landscape view are too big in my opinion!
