@Davegpmoto21 I've heard this before so many times from Brits. How terrible all other cars are compared to anything English. Please..... As a previous owener of a 2005 Range Rover HSE Vogue, I must say it was THE WORST VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED. If LR is so good, why is it at the bottom of all charts for quailty and customer satifaction? Now I'm a proud owner of a 2011 GC Overland Summit and so far have put close to 50,000 Miles and not a problem. Its a fact that anythign English is garbage.
Too bad Chrysler forgot to put in a battery light or voltage gauge - if your battery dies you'll never know - I guess the reviewer up top missed that little fact when he tested the car and all it's features. - see the full story at carquestions channel
All you have to do is take off your bumpers and use a digital caliper (none of this tapping business) and measure for yourself, my 2011 JK has 3x the frame in every way my 78 CJ has (they're about triple in size alone), and the CJ CAN NOT keep up with any modern JK in the rocks, its ox cart suspension simply won't allow it. You are highly delusional about many aspects of the CJ for some unknown reason.
@mahatmacoatmahandbag you're one to talk, Ford Designed the !!!9!!! slot grill used on the stamped grills of the GPW. WILLYS cut it down to 7 slots for the Civilian version to fit bigger headlamps.
@JSSJeepin OK mr pedantic.ford designed the stamped out grille whether it be 9 or shrunk to 7,my point is AMC has nothing to do with the stamped grill we all know.
You got it all twisted. The AMC C-j was 100 times better than any Chrysler jeep. The Frames were made from thicker steel, all you have to do was tap on them. Never had any emission problems with the 4.0L. That thing could torque up anything. All Jeeps are now is hand-me-down AMC off road engineering, including the axels, disconnecting sway bars, lockers, and differential systems. Jeep was merely bought, that's all.
Maybe if you actually ever owned a CJ, you'd know.
First, the CJs had the 4.2, the 4.0 was fuel injected with a CHRYSLER MPFI system (talking about the non Renix crap) You can literally watch the frame and body flex on a CJ while offroad, the YJs, TJs and JKs have frames 100x (and then some) stronger (which you can actually MEASURE.)
I don't need to get started about the crappy carter BBD carburetors either. AMC was the worst era for Jeep, simplicity was their only fallback.
It had a lot more engines than the 4.2, including the 3.3L the 2.8L and the 3.8L My main point was that the 4.0L was a great Jeep engine-engineered by AMC, and the CJ was the best off roader. The RENIX FUEL-INJECTION MPFI was what the Chrysler was based off of. The Chrysler's was a HO EFI. It was an upgrade hat only slightly increase the torque. IT was AMC technology in the scheme of things, and had higher output than Chryslers 318. Continued.
The CJ7,and CJ8 had thicker steel in the front and side beams of the frame. Like I said all you have to do is tap on with you're knuckle. The CJ had a more sound drivetrain than the Wrangler, and the body was definately better. The Wrangler could never tackle rockes as well as the CJ, The Frame bended for BETTTER torsional regidity, it's not 100 times anything. The AMC Era. The BBD carburetors had idle problems, but were easly to fix. The AMC's QuadraTrac was supurb.
@RussianAmericanArms in my 98 zj (5.9) or in my 95 yj 2.5? In a 5.2, no I haven't. Never owned one. Have the 232 in an amc, and worked on them as a marine engine as a youth. Thanks though.
@RussianAmericanArms then he or the Jeep's previous owner sealed and vented the distributor, because they DO get wet, and quite easily. As soon as it gets wet, its game over, engine won't run until it is dry again.
which was pathetic on Jeep's part, because even though the intake was perfectly high in the TJ (not so in the YJ), the early distributor models would die anyway once it got wet.
@RussianAmericanArms intakes can't "take in" any water, they can hold water, but by then, the engine has already sucked in enough water to kill itself. They are effectively giant vacuums, water doesn't just sit in the box when it starts to fill ;) especially if the inlet gets fully submerged.
Drains usually work well enough to get any water out, but if you're revving that engine up, expect to have a soaked air filter or water ingestion into the motor at some point, regardless of how big the box
After having 3 Jeeps in 9 years through the lease program I am not getting another Jeep because I'm being shown no Lease Loyalty and being gouged on a new 1. I did my research because of the rising gas costs and the Kia Sorento came out the clear winner. The V6 in the Sorento has the balls of my Hemi with better milage and all the bells and whistles of my loaded OverLand for $12,000 less. It truely breaks my heart to not get my 4th Jeep but Chrysler created this proplem! So long Jeep!
funny thing is it won't be pulling anything unless trail rated.for some reason you don't get tow hooks unless you buy the off road package and get the ugly wheels.
This is such a sick manipulation of the fears of the Americans on the East coast. I hope for a quick conclusion to their brutal storms so that Jeep can't profit off of it.
My 2000 Jeep GC Limited (AWD & 4.7l V8) has DOMINATED the blizzard here in Tulsa. Since Sunday I have put in 250 miles of driving in the blizzard and have yet to get stuck. I have been out on the roads before the road crews started clearing them and have pulled a number of vehicles out. My jeep has 200640 miles on it and still is going strong! I imagine once she finally dies I'll be getting this generation as it's replacement but that likely wont be for another hundred thousand miles.
@TheSkiddey dude this city slicker of an excuse for a Cherokee has less ground clearance than the space between the ground and the rim of a hummer owned by a rap star. These clips are week as hell for any reasonable 4x4 standards. It would take mods to go on trails my crapy stock no good for a trail rig silverado can. It makes me sad that this is what legendary jeep has turned into.
@markssite for a stock vehicle its not bad, but it still need to be called a lesser cherokee rather than a grand cherokee. the XJs IMO are better. I still don't like how jeep is going aerodynamic its becoming more of a soccer mom grocery car than an offroader. plus with the grand cherokee's new quadralift system it's hella expensive to gain more clearance than the stock system allows.
Viva America! I really hope these sell.... I pray our American industries will prosper in the new year. There are still a lot of decent people in this country, and people still work hard.
Indeed, the Grand Cherokee can plow through deep snow like a hot knife through butter... it is certainly one of your most dependable choices for the harsh winter.
@stewhansens yeah bull to the shit. Car's like Volvo and Saab make the best winter-cars. They're made in a country where snow isn't an occasional thing, its the way of life. They're factories are nearly 50 miles away from the arctic circle, and year round the temperatures hover below zero. In a conducted test, Volvo's and Saab's were able to still start in -40F weather, whereas most cars stall at around 20F. I'm an American, but when it comes to winter, American cars having nothing on the swedes
i love love love this vehicle! i sell at a jeep dealership in alberta and i got to do a demonstration on these and i get to drive my managers demo all the time. oh man if i had money i would be in one of these in a heart beat! the selec-trac is the coolest thing!
