  • All I can see is a rod that burst from bad angles due to the fisherman not following the fish when it went port side.....the gear is spot on...custom jig rod and reel that collapses to the butt section when fishing higher than 20kg....it just fully collapsed when a big fish went south without the angler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it's a $ 2 rod

  • that was a huge pressure in your rod

you let the GT to take more line from your reel

  • Rod is hand made in Japan. The makers of these rods are considered to be among the forefront of high performance fishing rod developers, and are considered by many to make some of the best rods in the world.

This particular rod is very tough too. Specifically designed for BIG Amberjack (upwards of 100lbs). They jig lures up to 600 grams!

But even a world class powerful rod like this can be broken with a bad angle, and the smallest of pressures.

  • fish say good luck next time...angler say its a 1000 dolar rod damn it...

  • asshole. nice fish tad fella got there. the drag is on the reel is way too much. oppss....snap...! wasted....!!

  • The only way that might have won the battle was if the guy was using a heavier rod and fishing much more drag trying to short pump the fish right from the start.

    Just my 2 cents.

  • The only fault that I can point to the angler is when the rod was bending beyond it was supposed to bend he didn't lighten up the drag to help save the rod. But, either way, you could see the the line was going 90 degrees straight down and the fish would have cut him off down the reefs anyway. So, my conclusion is the gear was outgunned from the word go, as such the angler wasn't able to turn the fish and once that happened the fish just carried on nose-diving to the reefs to cut his line. (TBC)

  • The point is the specific rating of this rod might be too low in this situation. In plain English, the rod was outgunned by the fish. As for the reel, I doubt he was fishing max drag as he didn't seem to be struggling as the boat swayed. Trust me, Stella has a max drag of 50lbs, if you are fishing 50lbs drag on a boat, unless you are Arnold you will definitely have problems. Plus the line was totally flying out of the reel. (TBC)

  • I am just amazed that nobody gave the fish any credit. From the clip, it is obvious that it is a very strong fish. From what I can see I don't think the guy did anything wrong. I just feel bad for him when you guys are all laying into him for nothing. However, what I can see though is the rod from the word go wasn't really doing much, you could see it wasn't providing much leveage. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not saying whether the rod is good or bad. (TBC)

  • whether the rod is a quality one or not.....when the fish takes a run like that under the boat you should take the rod out of the gimbel belt to better control the fish and to reduce the rod bend. you can control the bend better when the rod is under your arm and flex better with a large fish. once you feel the rod is taking too much strain you should lower the lift angle and work with the fish not against it.

  • It seems to me that the problem was not on the drag or the poor performance of the rod. The problem was that the fish was running to the other side of the boat; this in turn decreased the angle so much putting excessive force on the rod with the initial drag setting of the reel. The angler had to simply change direction and pass his line quickly to the other side of the boat. Fish won this time!!!!1

  • @taimoursaleh

yeah i agree. I dont think the reel was too much at all. I reckon he could have cranked up the reel even. Also that rod was handling the pressure perfectly. Thats a fantastic rod, its not going to break with the drag so lose. But like you say the angle of the rod was too acute. classic way to break a rod. I broke a $500 10kg rod on a 1.5 kilo Bonito exactly the same way. You never make that mistake twice!

  • It's nothing to do with the rod, the problem lies with a novice angler and a clutch that was to tight. Set the clutch to match the breaking strain of the mainline.........This was a silly mistake to make and has left a fish with hooks and trailing line in it's mouth.

  • if y'all think that the high-end rod, y'all are fools. because china can bootleg anything these days! even a fucken EGG! or toothpaste! that rod isn't made in japan! it was made in CHINA! bootleg!

  • the angler should put the rod into the water, wrong angle for the rod

  • wtf! It's like crashing a Ferrari... go to my channel to see my Zenaq and my Trevala in action. The never broke lol...

  • cool.. he should take out the rod from the gimble belt and soak the rod into the water and nothing will go wrong

  • lol about after rod snapped , if he was smart he woulld reverse way from the fish to keep the line at 45degrees to rod instead of 90 smooth dargh on reel what was it?i had a shitty penn jig king bent at around 90degrees and it shattered at 13kg of drag on a big sailfish

  • that's what happen when your rod is MADE IN CHINA!

  • What's with all the comments on his rod being crappy? I could tell it wasn't a crappy rod in my first comment made a while ago. I now happen know exactly what rod it is and it's worth more than most people's entire rod/reel collections. It's a japanese made rod and it's a high end boutique rod. Anybody who knows fishing, knows the top shelf japanese gear is about the best anywhere. This rod is a Fisherman brand Red Tail Monster. $1000 US. look it up before commenting.

  • little, wow..ur so right! but guess what!? I DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT HIS ROD OR ANYONE ROD! GET IT!? I DON'T GIVE IT FUCK! THE ONLY THING THAT I'LL CARE ABOUT IS, MY ROD! MY ROD! MY REEL!MY LINE!MINE MINE MINE!!!god, take a chill pill, mang

  • looooooooooooooooooooooool

  • @bigburpboy u bet ur right on saying this...

  • the drag isnt too high. they are fishing near oil rigs and they cant be stingy with drags. if you let the GTs run, like

millomarin says, you will end up with plenty of lost jigs and metres of destroyed braid. from the way it is, i think he is using 15 kg drag MAX. nobody uses 30 kg drag on stellas man. 12-15kg is ok . its just that he high sticks too often.

  • To get such big fish, the captain of the fish boat must control his boat for the angler to fight with fish easily.

  • Maybe shld get a better rod nx time.. Big Game with cheapo rod? no way

  • Do you have any idea how expensive fisherman are??? Knob.

  • There's nothing wrong with the rod, it's just a matter of to much drag for the rod. If a rod is rated fo 15 kg max drag at 45 deg it would snap at 20kg drag. Remeber daiwa Saltiga and shimano stellas can putout 30 kg drag. The rod in the clip is a fisherman rod, hand built in japan, very strong.

  • nice reel, try putting it on something half decent next time and it wont snap. The rod was struggling the entire time.

  • No Idea mate.

  • that rod is a peace of shit u dumb ass

  • not drag problem i think.. he held the rod too high.. the most appropriate area to hold is above the reel isn't? but that guy held way above the reel.

  • soundzzzz crazyyy!!!

  • the angler should go around the BoAT!! so he is facing the direction of the fish!!

  • @jojierx That is so true. That is what i think went wrong.

  • yeah. drag too tight for that particular rod. Or i guess you could also say the rod didn't match his horsing style. Too much graphite in that rod... Looks like a nice rod with titanium framed guides and nice crosswrapping. A lot of the serious jiggers get that much bend in their rods all day but they use high e/s glass composite rods.

  • The way he fight the fish is wrong. Hold the rod too high lah.

  • Exactly. You can tell that he messed up when he starts reeling in when the fish is on the run. Never do that, let'em run, and when they stop, then you reel in. If you think he's gonna empty your reel, apply a little pressure on the spool with your fingers, never touch the drag during a fight. Good sounds on the video.

  • your drag was too tight, way too tight.

  • drag tension too tight and also braided line not balance with rod..

  • reel tension too high

  • He use the rod in over action

  • fake
