This is GENIUS. Theres only a few moving parts and it can generate power at night. Also prototypes in Germany showed that grass, insects and other wild life was thriving under the cover that traps heat from the ground which was surprising.
This is an epic piece of technology that can help nations produce clean and safe energy with minimal environmental impact. Several must be constructed as the sun will always be there.
I invented a breakthrough energy source which violates the law of energy conservation. I have a PROOF that there are electrodynamic phenomena violating the law of energy conservation. I am looking for $30000 for a prototype and for $3M for patents. In mass production it will cost $1200 to make a 15 kW generator, value of energy produced YEARLY about $10000.
The one question I have about this tower is why the greenhouse section is not filled with sea water. Water vapour is less dense than air so it would rise up through the tower. Then the distilled water would rain down in the immediate area creating a microclimate. The the high salt content water could then be either sold to Indonesia or the magnesium chloride could be sold to magnesium processors (perhaps using the electricity from the tower) or returned to the ocean.
What a complete nonsens! New silicone thinfilm photovoltaic sets the price for solar energy. Against this, the construction cost of such a huge field and the tower are by far to high.
@pegefounder Is it such nonsense? A coal fired power station has a life span of several decades, 30 to 40 years. A solar thermal chimney would be more expensive than a coal fired station to build but how long would it last? I guess at least hundreds of years. For large scale energy production it has got the be the cleanest, longest term solution. In my view, solar voltaics, solar thermal, geothermal, wind, tidal, zero point energy and many other alternative energy productions all have a place.
Interesting. I wonder how many MW-years of energy are required to create the building materials, transport them to the site, and build the structure? Sailplane pilots will love the giant man-made thermal.
if you build the tower even taller than what it is to a higher elevation and colder temperature up high would the velocity of air flow through the turbine also increase also increasing megawatt output or would it remain constant at 49ft/s
i think this is a great idea it produces alot of power with only an initial cost (sort of, everything needs maintenance trust me) all i wanna know is wat the hell happens when it hails...3 mile diameter glass panes gone lol
whoopity do....i wonder if they waste as much time staring and dreaming as they dit on the intro hieght hype....efficency and feasibilty..thats what counts
Why dose it looks structurely Unstable? considering the size the architecture wont sustane the weight let alone wind conditions or sizmic activites, i would crumble at the sightest breeze with that tower design
It is madness NOT to do anything for the environment and use fossil energy instead. Think before you speak, some things in life cannot be measured in money
The sheer elegant simplicity of this generator design makes all other forms of power generation obsolete. Yippy. No more nuclear plants.

The solar power technology is a sensless waste of ressources and area because photovoltaic is far superior in area efficiency and cost

this is nearly impsossible, and if it is possible, it will be done in 100 milleniums

of course this is brilliant, but wat about the labor and materials and natural destructive causes. to much of a hassle

Yu could also use the space (2-3km²?) to built a kitegen carousel which would get you 1-6GW and work 5000-7000h/a power pr 1-3cent/kwh.
You can`t top that with solar panels.

in the end of the video, there is 5 towers, does that mean theres going to be 5 of them?

Ther higer you go the better...but there is a limit obviously...
The first test plant of this sort collapsed in a storm (spain).
